Harley Benton SC-450Plus VB Vintage Series Reviews
better than i expected
The guitar looks amazing out of the package, the details are really great!
the guitar itself is quite heavy, the neck is really comfortable and easy to move around. the strings and tuners used could be better but still not bad at all! would definitely recommend
Good product, but little problem with one of the keys...
Sc-450 plus
Gives me the Les Paul experience at a fraction of the cost. Looks Great, sounds great but most importantly it plays great! I love the chunky neck. Very traditional. I also own 3 of the 550's slim neck as well as vintage Gibson Les paul guitars (3) and others. Honest opinion is....Every bit as good.
Harley Benton SC-450Plus VB Vintage Series the best guitar ever I played
I found out about this guitar about two years ago. Began to study it. I watched many reviews, read even more articles and reviews. The problem is that there are very few such guitars in Russia. And finally I have the guitar. I am incredibly happy with the purchase. Build quality, looks, sound - everything is at a height of 5/5. I've been playing for several hours now and I can't stop. The guitar was packed well and securely too. Delivered relatively quickly, but there is a problem with Russian delivery services. Summing up, I want to say a big thank you to the Tomann store.
You cant find another Guitar of this Quality for this Price!
This Guitar has a great Tone. The pickups sound real nice, the overall quality and finish is outstanding. No setup was necessary out of the box.
Way more guitar than I expected.
First, I was blown away getting my guitar in two days (after the order was processed), Germany to Florida, U.S. Surreal, I suspected witchcraft might be involved.
Second, the guitar was equally surprising. I had seen all the You Tube videos showing a flaw in the finish here, a run in the binding there, and was prepared for that at this remarkable price point. What I received was a one piece (no glue joint-none!) mahogany body, perfectly intonated, perfect neck relief, flawlessy crafted instrument. Which weighs a friggin' TON, but you should have already been prepared for that if you bought this style guitar. I have truly fine tooth combed this instrument and cannot find a single ding, scratch, run, screw unset, tuner out of alignment, sprouted fret,, nothing. Neck is true and flat. Frets are level. Plays beautifully, But did I mention that it's heavy? Because it is. Seriously heavy. Just sayin', get a good locking strap for it, 'cause you'll need it. But lugging that weight is worth it when you discover how it plays and how it sounds. Great guitar!
Absolutely worth the money
First of all, the reference pictures don't show how beautiful this guitar looks like in real life. Worth the money just for the looks already.
Pretty much arrived "ready to play" out of the box. Just tune up, plug it in and you will have a really nice piece to start with.
A few notes and thoughts:
Overall construction: A bit on the heavier side, but nothing too much. Everything is put together well and no obvious flaws on the paintjob or binding. The pickguard was a bit loose, but that's fixed simply by tightening the screw.
Pickups and the sound: Rosewell Alnico 5's sound great. Nothing bad about them to be honest (might replace them later on but that's a personal preference pretty much). All I had to do was adjust the pickup heights to my liking. Coil tap is a nice feature.
The neck: This is why I'm rating it only for 3* for quality. Don't get me wrong, for the money you get an absolute unit but just to be brutally honest, there are some minor issues that can be taken care of from the QC department. First of all, the frets were not polished at all - very grindy when bending the strings. This I fixed with some 0000 steel wool and general polishing. Secondly the fret ends around the 15th fret and upwards were quite sharp. Fixed by filing and sanding. It seemed like someone had already tried to file the frets around that area, as the binding on the fingerboard is a little bit damaged. Fortunately it's on the bottom side, so it doesn't bother me.
HB SC-Custom I bought a year ago had perfect frets for example. Might just have been the case of QC rushing with the guitars during the holiday season..
Tuners and tuning in general: The guitar seems to hold it's tuning quite well, tuners are tight and not slipping in any way.
Overall it's a amazingly great instrument for the price. After polishing the frets, dealing with with the sharp ends around 15'th fret and changing the strings (obvious first job for any guitar) it's something that well deserves a place in my collection. That's actually already 3'rd Harley Benton guitar for me and definitely not the last one.
More than I expected
I purchased based on the reviews. Had to change a couple of things, but I am very satisfied. Replaced the nut with a graphtec for tuning issues. Kept breaking .09 e when bending hard, so I went to .10 set and wrapped strings over tailpiece to reduce the angle to the bridge while keeping tailpiece tightened down to the body. Frets were not polished, but bending with the original strings did the job. No other polishing needed. Very versatile with coil splitter volume pots. Overall, the best money I've ever spent on a guitar.
This guitar sounds great, it is very well made, it is elegant. My congratulations to the master who created it. Also my huge thanks to the store staff. The guitar was well packed and was delivered to Moscow in just six days.
Good!
I loved the sound, quality and everything else about this guitar. Definitely worth the money!
Brill guitar not cheep looking or feeling perfect for me
Great Jams
I've been playing on this Guitar on Rocksmith and it is has been very compatible so far. I have yet to test out the smaller features on an actual amp because Rocksmith already provides all that. The guitar quality was almost there but I noticed the guitar nut was not smoothened out which may cause problematic buzzing sounds in the future. I have not tinkered on the guitar since I want to see how long it can go before requesting assistance via warranty. I'm also getting mechanical sounds from the strings when I play loudly (this is without being amp'd).
Good guitar
Very good guitar. It's my first electric guitar and I can't be an expert, but what I see is what I see. Quality is perfect, everything works, colour is better than in the pictures. I couldn't find any weaknesses. I'm happy now and recommend to anybody this product.
My first LP guitar. Before that, I only played on ST. The workmanship is excellent, the build holds perfectly. The sound is deep and rich. Great price! Fast shipping and delivery
Very good guitar for the money
I'm always slightly nervous about buying guitars online that I haven't playing in person. However, this turned out to be a great purchase. I was also really pleased with the paint finish... I saw some photos with a very slim black section of the burst finish but mine arrived with a more graduated burst which was looks fantastic. The pickups sound great and the guitar generally looks awesome. Might buy another Harley Benton at some point.
Buzzing frets
Buzzing frets in many positions and strings. I can hear the undesirable noise even with the combo. Otherwise the quality of the materials is good.
My first guitar
bought a guitar a few weeks ago.
сracked fretboard.
Excellent guitar for the price.
I got a good one
I couldn't decide which 450 to get, so I picked the one that was in stock, which was the tobacco burst version. I will say that it looks better in person than in the photos. Fretwork is better than expected and the sound is really good. I decided to swap the knobs for a set of speed knobs because the vintage hats are a little tough to pull up for the coil split. But it's a lovely guitar to play, especially for the price.
Great guitar!
have had it for a few months now. Really amazing guitar stays in tune as well. no sharp frets and setup with a low enough action direct from factory. Will recommend not just just because its good for the money but a good guitar regardless of its price.
