Harley Benton Ukulele UK-11DW Brown Reviews
cheap and can tell
wouldn't stay in tune and spontaneously exploded in its bag at both the bridge and neck after 4 months
gift for my niece
I bought this ukulele as a gift for my infant niece who loves to see me play the guitar and seems obsessed with guitars wherever she sees them. She is only 1.5 years old and I didn't buy this product as a serious instrument, but because of the price, I was ok with she smashing it recklessly. I must admit that the instrument I receive has a lot of punch for buck, it plays nicely and I enjoyed playing it so much that I even consider keeping it for myself. P.S. my niece loves it and as a surprise, she treats it relatively carefully, maybe this will be the first of many instruments in her life.
Low price, low quality
This was my very first instrument. The ukulele is a great starting point to learn about making music and music theory. For a beginner you will not notice the flaws in the sound and build of this instrument. But after using it to practice reguarly I began to notice the sound is completly off and the strings are out of tune every few minutes. So it doesn't hold up well but is certainly a fine budget option to introduce someone to playing music.
ok for this price
As for the price, the ukulele is ok. It detunes very quickly though. It requires tuning not only before each use, but also you need to tune it up during using, as it looses the tone very quickly.
How can you buy an instrument for this price?
Really, when seeing the price point, I was expecting one of those cheap plastic ukeleles you can buy on ebay.
Due to the positive reviews, and my nephew getting into music but being very young, I decided to give it a shot.
When unboxing, I was so pleasantly surprised I even considered buying one for myself just because. It is actually wood!! And feels like an instrument and not a toy. Also, comes with a cute little carrying bag which is not going to offer the highest of protections, but it does the job of carrying the instrument around.
As far as the sound goes, I'm not the best one to attest for it, since I've never had any instrument like this before, but to me ears, sounds pretty darn good.
With new strings it would be a decent first ukulele
great little uke
I was actually very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this ukulele. I'm not an ukulele player, I play the guitar and wanted to try it. I also took the ukulele soprano gigbag (item 142770) and it came in it, it fits perfectly.
It was ready to play right out of the bag, it was even in tune (yes, I know it's a bit strange tuning, but when I checked with tuner there was nothing to adjust).
It looks and feels sturdy and well built. At the same time it's light. It sounds good, although like I said I'm not an ukulele player and I can't really tell. Everything - tuners, frets, bridge looks great and feels nice for touch. It is a pleasure learning to play it.
Pros:
The looks, the quality and the setup.
Cons:
I really can't think of some, especially for the price it's great. I'm sure there must be better professional ukuleles for more money out there, but for a beginner this is more than perfect.
Great for the price
It's amazing for the price but it needs 2 things badly. Better tuners and larger frets.
It was okay
I mean, what does one expect for the price? It outperformed the price, but it's a step up from a toy.
A step up from the uke you might find on the wall in a tourist gift shop.
Really good for the price.
Perfect beginner's uke
Bought this for my 12y old and also bought new strings.
Sound is ok, I play guitar myself since 1990 but have no experience with ukelele's so I can't compare.
Strings need to be tuned every single time.
For this price I didn't expect a Stradivarius. I got what I expected: a perfect try out ukelele that is decent.
good stuff!
I'm sure, of course, that there are £100 ukeleles out there that pay and sound much better than this one. however, as a guitarist I can easily say that this feels like a solid, well made instrument with a good sound and feel (especially after switching out the strings for some aquila nylgut strings). Would recommend to any amateur or beginner ukeleleist looking for a decent and cheap axe
Child's first uke
Got it for my child to play with and brake it without me caring about it. Its ok, ended up sanding it down and painting it. Worth all the money.
feels a bit cheap but good sound
Great build quality
Great tone and build quality
Ideal gift
My granddaughter will be delighted and save my old acoustic guitar from being dragged out of my bedroom by her she is 4 years old by the way lol
very good price for a ukelele
I bought two of these and two sets of Aquila strings.I had been influenced by other reviewers who recommended changing the strings,i think this is good advice and have changed the strings, the tone is better.I also like Harley Benton products from experience and speaking to others. These are good ukeleles for the price and come with a carry bag.
The sound is not so good, but you can start for fun
Best entry-level option
Didn't expect miracles from this. I just bought to give this instrument a try and I was quite impressed by its quality. Sounds really good for its price. Frets are a little bit rough though.
Amazing Quality for such a low Price
I've always wanted to play the ukulele but I never knew if I could keep up with it or if I would like it. I bought this as a kind of 'trial uke' to see if I would like playing it. The quality was surprisingly good and it was quite sturdy. It needed to be re-tuned a lot, but that's normal with nylon strings and was quite easy to do. The sound quality is very good and in total I'd recommend this uke to anyone looking to start playing or for younger children who tend to 'throw away' new hobbies rather quickly.
