Harley Benton Valuestrings EL 9-42 5-stars Reviews
Great Strings
Fired them on to my strat and it sounded how a strat is supposed to, shrill and annoying haha, but seriously, the tone is there, they sound great and work great, so buy them up before they're gone !
Great strings for a silly price!
I get through quite a few sets of strings with 3 gigs a week. A set of a more expensive brand was lasting about 2 gigs, a set of these have laster about 4. They hold their tune just fine. I just can't believe how cheap these are!
Everyday strings
Harley Benton Valuestrings are outstanding for the price as they are the same gauge as most popular American and British strings but they cost about a sixth of the price.
The metal is not as good quality as top brand name stings and the wound strings feel a bit coarser under your fingers but you soon get use to them and if you brake a string then you can easily afford to change the whole set if want.
I think every one should keep a few sets in stock even if you only use the top brand strings as they are a great safety net and at this price its a must.
Brilliant at any price
I hate paying £6 for strings. I love the 'fresh' sound a new pack brings and for that reason probably change them more than most, and with a rapidly growing collection (addiction) it soon mounts up. So at such a teeny price, these Harley Benton strings are a godsend, and the fact that I defy anybody to tell the difference between these and the usual brands in terms of feel, tone or longevity it is basically a no-brainer. If you haven't tried them, you really should as the rest of us are laughing at you, and let's face it, nobody likes to be the loser around town ;o)
Harley Benton Valuestrings 009
I can't fault them to be honest, I initially though they would be terrible due to the price but I couldn't have been more wrong! They are not as bright straight after being put on the guitar as some well known brands but it's not a bad thing as I find strings generally are too bright initially. They hold their sound well, are very consistent and last a long time. Great job Harley Benton!
Amazing
This strings are just as good as other packs but a a fraction of the cost.
They are well packaged and not too tightly wound in the packet.
This strings lasted me for about 5 or 6 weeks on my main guitar that i play everyday.
I will never buy a different brand of strings again
Excellent Quality At Any Price
I decided to try all of the Harley Benton Valuestrings, to see whether they really could be any good at this sort of price, and I have to say I am more than impressed in every way.
I put this set of 9s on my son's Jackson, and he plays hard and fast, and he was very pleased by the fact that they stayed in tune right from the off - which is more than can be said for his usual Ernies.
In fact the whole range have been surprisingly good. All are quite bendy out of the pack, but fine once fitted. All sound great and feel perfect. In fact I'd defy anybody to play one of my guitars and tell me that they aren't one of the bigger brands.
The only request I'd have is that HB produce sets with a heavier bottom for drop tunings, but then buying a set of 9s and a set of 11s and mixing them to taste is still ridiculously cheap compared to another set. Try them, you'll be as impressed as I am.
Good strings
A good set of strings for a bargain price
Don't be fooled by the price & lack of big brand name they are as good as a lot of strings that retail for 5 x the price.
Ideal for people who like to change their strings regularly.
Strings
I bought 24 sets of these strings a while ago and swear by them. They feel maybe slightly worse than a normal 5 pound set of strings, for the first few days they do not have the band new metally sound that most other strings have, which for me is good, I have always prefered the sound of 4 or 5 day old strings. They are excellent quality, I have used them for several gigs and recording sessions. Best of all for 30 odd pounds I can string all my guitars for months, nearly a year I would say, usually 30 quid would last me a month.
Worth adding that I think they are better than rotosound strings, on par with ernie balls, and just a bit below d'addario quality wise. Will use these strings for life!
Great Strings Whatever The Price
I don't mind admitting I was dubious about these strings and had bought a set of 9s, 10s and 11s to try on a Tele, a Les Paul and a Jazzmaster. Of the three the one that I thought most likely to suffer at the budget end of the market was the 9s as basically they are the thinner and (I thought) most likely to break with a good whack of a heavy pick.
So I put them on my Tele, tuned up and played some seriously heavy stuff for an hour or so, and not only did they stay in shape, there were no breaks and they still sounded as zingy as when I got them out of the pack.
We all spend loads of money on strings, and the differences between them can be quite stark at times, but I can honestly say that I am a complete convert and somewhat gutted that I've spent so much on what are frankly inferior strings in a lot of cases over the years. If you've not tried these, they have got to be worth a punt. Great strings whatever the price.
best strings ever
Best strings I ever bought for this price they are sounding well, I play in a Cover Rock Band and also the feeling with this strings for me is just perfect. Also the sound between the strings and also bendings are quite perfect.
Cheap strings .... why not ?
I use the Harley Benton Valuestrings for setups and as the spare set i carry in my gig bags. While not as long lasting (with a bright tone) as a new set of 'name' brand. These are not far behind. Great value for money !
Great value
I've tried a lot of stings over the years and while these aren't necessarily the best sounding or the hardest wearing, you can't argue with the excellent value. At the very least these will provide excellent backup in an emergency but they are also perfectly acceptable for anyone who hasn't spent an absurd amont of money on a guitar and amp setup.
Problem free
I got these for my Floydrose, which was snapping strings frequently due to hard handling. These strings are magic. No more snapped frustrating strings. And at the price, they are even more Magic.
29.04.15 They are so good, that I bought another 10 sets. Amazing product.
Low budget but surprisingly good.
I use to buy these since I have 7 guitars and don't want to spend a fortune on strings. At first I was sceptical about these strings and intended just to use them to have all guitars stringed and to use a wellknown brand on the guitars that I use at gigs. However, I found out that there was hardly any difference between HB strings and some much more expensive strings. I eneded up using HB-strings even on guitars that I brought to gigs and rehearsals. I don't break these strings more often than other brands. They don't go dull quicker than other brands too. Great value for the money.
Love these strings
Excellent durability, been bending them a lot and no string breakages so far. Despite the price they feel really good and solid on the fingers, so much so that I wouldn't be able to tell them apart from other more expensive brands.
The package itself is thick but soft plastic and each string is individually wrapped in plastic so there is no chance of damage or corrosion even if you use them much later.
Highly recommended and I'll definitely buy them again when I run out.
Practice strings?
Nope. Strings. Get over the fact that half the strings in the world are made by only a handful of companies, overcome label slavery and use cheapies!
I have acidic sweat and replace my strings every practice session at the end because even with fast fret, I've pocked a set of strings.
Live?, one gig and they're etched. I don't like the feel of coated strings. Never have. Pity really.
So, they're strings in the commonly known '9' gauge. They hold their tune after a short while. No-one has ever said 'Your strings sound awful' to me. Until you let on, no-one knows you're not using an expensive brand. Keep it that way.
They are, to me, no different from any other non-coated set of 9's. I cannot tell who makes a string when I'm playing and am no string snob.
Rock on!
Excellent
I am a repairer/ luthier and these strings are so so good. The amount of youngsters learning guitars and cannot yet tune them must be so high, that these strings are perfect for this, They are nicely wound at the ball ends and deliver a lovely tone (once you clean them with a cloth sprayed with Lemon Oil). Ok they may not be up to the quality and tone of leading brands like Ernie Ball etc. but do they cost £1.00 ish a set? no, sometimes 6 times that. There are highly recommended by myself for both high quality for the price and assembly. Maybe 35 years experience is not enough for some? ha ha
cheers
Graeme
Great Value
Was not expecting much from these strings but they are working perfectly fine! A complete steal for the price. Buy!
Exceptionally good value strings, cheapest I can find anywhere and they're great if like me you prefer to change strings regularly without breaking the bank.
Packaging seems a bit basic compared to other brands, though honestly I'm happy to have more basic packaging if it means I get my strings cheaper!
The strings do have a bit of a wave in them once they're unraveled. I think this may be down to how tightly they're wrapped together in the factory? Doesn't seem to make any difference once the strings are wound on and tuned to pitch though so it looks like it doesn't matter.
Sound seems to be ok, I haven't done any direct comparisons to the major brands but I also haven't noticed my guitar suddenly sounding bad since using the HB's so they must be alright!
