Keith McMillen 12 Step 5-stars Reviews
convenient and responsive
this is customisable via computer app enhancing different control possibilities. It is very light to carry around with nice carrying back.
Love it!
The Keith McMillen 12 step replaced my old Roland PK-series foot bass controller couple of months ago, and I must say I'm in love!
The size, the features, the durability/quality is second to none!
I use this with my Moog Minitaur connected through the midi expander and it's a really solid box.
I have not used this with VSTs or polyphonic synths, and I have not used the program that came with it. The program looks really well thought out.
Only thing I really wan't them to address in further firmware updates is that when I turn it on that it remembers the preset/setting I was using the last time.
Really versatile pedalboard for the price
The 12 step is a semi rigid platform with 13 buttons, one 4 digit LED and a couple of USB sockets, and acts as a one octave pedalboard. The other options for pedalboards are 3 times the price of this.
Note, the 12 step has a USB output, rather than Midi, so if you want to control synthesisers or modules directly, you need to get an adapter, such as the Keith McMillen one they sell, and should factor this into the price (although it is fairly cheap). If you are playing directly into a computer, you don't need this.
The buttons are quite small and close together so takes a while getting used to them, and you do need hard soled shoes to use them to their best. They are rubbery and don't have much feel, they are also pressure sensitive.
The board flexes a bit when pressing, so it works better on a solid platform, rather than a carpet.
The real star of the board is the software, it lets you assign 5 midi notes / events to each pedal, and select whether it is press to hold or momentary, and even to the point of using scripts to run additional events. You can change patches from the board with your foot, so you can have a patch per song, so you can play over 1 octave if you want.
All in all a very worthwhile product to look like if you need synth control but your hands are busy!
