Roland VT-4
Based on 10 reviews
I got the Roland VT-4 to modify my voice for gaming and streaming, etc. Not exactly the usual profile of eclectic musician of vocal artist. When I got it, I was a little surprised that it is so light with a plastic body. From all the pictures I was expecting the usual metal construction of every little black box I've ever used. But it's bit not a bad thing - the quality is impressive, it's really well put together, if not as sturdy as I had pictured in my mind. The instruction booklet - this is important - DO NOT THROW AWAY THE INSTRUCTIONS! You will need them, for setup and for using the machine, as there are so many options hidden in menus and no screen or computer access to allow you to see clearly what each setting is. The manual is available online, of course, but I made a...
Vermona Retroverb Lancet

Great form and looks, solid construction throughout and the knobs are very tactile. It probably wont satisfy you if you are looking for a good quality spring reverb, however, it's a great tool for creative sound shaping and general mashing up duties. Cool for spacey dub FX too as the filter self oscillates in a nice way. Does require you to invest some time to realise its full potential. I've been running synths through it, parallel FX for guitar parts, and putting some breaks/drum loops through to add some spice and colour. Great all-in-one FX box and very unique.
Jomox T-Resonator MkII

This is a lovely little unit. Got it as a WTF box. Does so much. Smooth fx.. subtle.. movement.. vibe. Crazy unpredictable, 'WTF is that' stuff too. A limiter after it is an essential recommendation for your speakers! :D Its a very unique bit of electronics. The unit itself is very well built. Pots are quality. Case is metal. I've got an mbase also & they're reliable. Layout of controls is good & the manual is well written & insightful. I really enjoy the no-input / self oscillation side of it. Its really nice to jam out on it with small adjustments, remembering to almost mirror one side of the controls with the other & creating some balance in the chaos. Or try to anyway. Sessions such as this are great to record & chop up in a sampler afterwards to use in your...
Bricasti Design M7

Price is high, especially considering how good reverb you can get in the board today with plugins, but for great realistic sounding reverbs, it has maintained its position with no real rivals, and has become a classic already. Reverbs that I love especially with contemporary / classic music. One minor fault was in the product I received, the volume/gain button was not properly attached and had to get a fitting hex key from ebay to fix it (1.27mm). Sure, doesn't affect the sound and quick fix, but at this price point it was a bit of a let down.
Lexicon PCM92

There are some different views on this unit(read Gearslutz..) about it being compared to the software. I was prepared to send the unit back if it would not make any difference to the software, and while being A/B tested HW vs SW I heard slight differences. The HW won me over this time, and I am keeping it. The small differences were such that it would put the vocals in place in a way that the SW algos sometimes lacked. Most people might not hear any difference at all, but I heard it in the mix(playing with vocals on karaoke songs etc..) Can't say why there is this small difference, and I have not yet tried to run the clock from my Prism Orpheus into the PCM(which might make a bigger improvement even..) I use it as a send effect into Cubase on PC. Only let down is that there is no control...
Behringer FX2000 3D FX Processor
Based on 26 reviews
In the meantime I bought a THIRD one (that says a lot)! Sounds as good as other high end FX processors but is 2 to 4 times cheaper. While in the beginning the operation of the four function edit wheels felt strange to me, I now see it is a superergonomic system that enables a much more direct/faster access than the "page scrolling systems" of most of the competition. Even if the info on the display is very succinct, the large characters are MUCH easier to see than the tiny characters of most other systems displays. Only drawback is that it cannot handle more than at most 2 FX at a time. I now use three in series.
Erica Synths Zen Delay
Based on 9 reviews
The Erica Synth Zen Delay is a weighty and solid unit. Looks kick-ass and sounds better. It works as an external effect with Ableton perfectly and I've also used direct my in effect chain. Fun to experiment with or to do more classic delay processing. I'm using it with synths primarily but have run drum loops through it too. By-passing the delay allows use of the filter and the tube drive effects which has expanded my options. Driving a Kick drum sounds whopper -defo give that a go. I have used the midi cable to sync the clock with my daw but the more I've been using it, I'm leaning towards just tapping the tempo to it's not "perfectly" in sync - I've been getting cooler effects with this and less chance of phase when it comes to drums. Top stuff all round, get one, have...
