I have 14 congas including my galaxy Conga and tumba, but this is exactly the drum needed for Cuban soloing. The strength of lugs means it can be hiked up with a couple of turns without risk of buckled rims or failing lugs, (which has happened with patato lugs in the past.) The tones are clear with very few overtones, but I will probably re skin soon, as LP tend to think that thin skins are better, which contradicts anything I have learned about trying to create a warm rich tone without any ringing overtones, however slight Love the drum and the look and strength is exceptional. Sack the 11" , this is the real thing.

I use this drum for latin/funk/electronic styles. I like the classic lines, design and sound of it. Pros; Traditional rims make the drum less bulky. Skins are thick. It is a solid, well-made drum. It has a rubber ring on the bottom which stops it sliding around. The matte shine is nicely understated, not bling-bling at all. A well-rounded tone, no overtones. Cons; The drum is quite wide-bellied, making this a pretty large drum overall. For the price you really cannot complain. This drum could be used by beginners all the way to pros. Most importantly it sounds good! Enjoy!

I own the the different sizes of these Luis Conte drums and use them across different musical styles. I appreciate the design which I think is classic and clean. They have a rubber-ringed bottom which stops them slipping around and the construction is overall pretty solid. The skins are reasonably thick which means they have a clear fundamental tone, and hardly any overtones. My quinto cannot tune up any higher than the conga can (up to C). The difference is therefore is a more manageably-sized drum and one with a little less sustain. Overall, its a really nice drum and at this price it's probably as good as you are going to get anywhere. Also, remember that that the lugs are moving parts and you need to oil them now and again - if you don't, they will strip.

I use this as part of my regular conga setup for live and recording. All the Meinl Professional wooden drums have a great earthy, woody tone, good for traditional and folkloric styles but able to cut it in other styles too - jazz, funk, reggae, pop etc. Great tones, very comfortable to play, rapidly becoming my go to drum. The finish on this drum is beautiful and the hardware is very high quality. Even the factory heads are pretty good! This is as good as a factory made conga gets in my opinion. Overall: Great sound, great quality, highly recommended.

I purchased conga and tumba a bit in darkness, not seeing instruments earlier and not hearing live. So far I used Marathon Classic instruments of the Meinl company. After a dozen or so hours of playing, where skins aren't still played, I will admit frankly that instruments sound warmly and of course, Getting the bass, slap and ton doesn't constitute the tone of effort. I am very pleased with the instrument. Using of the stand or authentic imprints the LP for getting is absolutely performing sounds.

These are REALLY well built and awesome sounding congas that are the size of your typical conga head. Together with the bigger size conga of the same series, they form a nice pair for home use and gigging. I have used these all the way from small churches and clubs to stadium size gigs, without any problem in sound, tunability or build quality. They are easy to carry in a small backpack or snare bag when making the heads face each other. My only CONCERN with these is the way these need to be mounted. I have not tested the original holder made for them, but i have used snare stands to accomodate them on gigs. The problem is the lack of mass, because the snare stand with the compact conga easily moves about a foot (30cm) during a high tempo energized song. I am a hard hitter, which also...
