I bought this without having tried one and once I adjusted the truss rod to make it playable I have been really impressed. This feels like a bass worth twice as much and the sound from the electrics is very powerful. The only things that slightly lets it down are the knobs which are plastic and feel cheap. The stacked knobs also stick together so move each other but this could be easily adjusted. I guess they had to save some money somewhere. I actually replaced them all for £15 for chrome ones and they look and feel so much better.

1. Quality I was impressed by the build quality. The finish is perfect, the tuners are very smooth, the bridge looks very solid. Very good frets, absolutely no sharp edges, I did't find any leveling issues. Overall this Sire feels better built than my Fender Player Precision Bass (MIM). Also the setup was almost perfect out of the box. Tune and play. 2. Sound I'm happy with the sound of this bass. I saw people complaining about poor low end response in P5 basses. I've played a few basses in my life, some high end MTD's, the occasional fender squire, standard, warwick and I have to say this rather blew me away completely. So everyone is hyping this guitar and in theory it looked good. Specs were good. Finish was good. Sound was good, it sounded like a P-Bass what more can you ask of it. But it seriously impressed me. I prefer it way over a lot of other more expensive instruments that I've tested. Finish is flawless on this.. it looks incredible in person and I don't say that lightly attention to detail is spot on! Received the bass from Germany in 4 days. It actually beat my Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings ordered off Amazon by 2 days despite the promise that the strings would be here next day. Finish is amazing, no flaws whatsoever. Neck and intonation were set properly from the factory. Action was way to high and I brought it down several millimeters. Strings that were installed at the factory were awful. B string was completely dead. I didn't panic because I knew I had to re-string and do a proper setup. After spending about an hour on the restring and half an hour on the setup the bass sounds amazing. So, how does it sound you ask? I have 3 Harley Benton bass guitars, and this one is the 4th one of the family, and I have to say, I'm truly impressed. Even a store clerk was impressed by it. I love the pick up blend control, the clear distinction between the P PU and H PU. Truss rod and bridge adjustment is very easy as well, although I didn't have much adjustment to make straight out of the box. I am not a fan of the active sound on this bass. It doesn't sound natural, and it feels like it is forcing something out that doesn't really belong to the bass. No worries, the passive mode sounds spectacular enough. The specs say that the neck is "C," but to me, it feels more like "D" than "C." No complaints here, just pointing something out. The sound of this bass is very warm and punchy....

Why pay more. I cannot believe how good this bass is for the price. You could pay £1,000 for a bass and it might easily be NOT as good. It needs a proper setup and possibly some fret dressing in order to suit my requirements. Unfortunately I cannot get to a luthier in the current state of lockdown. BUT I cannot stop playing this thing and sadly my trusty ESP LTD my have to be relegated. I won't cover the specs as it is well described on this site. There are also some good reviews on YouTube. If you can't find the tone you are looking for with this guitar, then you are probably searching for something that doesn't exist. If you are thinking about one of these - my advice would be stop thinking, just buy one. Don't forget 30 day returns policy and 3 year warranty.

I've been an activity giging bassist for 20 years, from dive bars, to dance halls, playing every thing from Country and western to ska and reggae. The latter is why I got this bass, as I was filling in for a 2tone ska band who also played some reggae. So while my Stingray was poppy enough, it didn't have the low end I wanted for this mix of music. Enter this bass and its P style and MM style puckups! I got it thinking worst case I can keep it at rehearsal and leave it at the space and not have to pack a bass around, best case I'd gig with it. Long story short I giged with it! The Sire V7 and P7 basses are famous for selling at £500 but being equal in quality to basses worth £1000 to £1500. My P7 really sits in the mix whereas my V7 cuts through the mix. The design is very logical: one volume knob and one pickup blend knob rather than Fender's silly design with a volume knob for each pickup. So on the Sire, the blend can be adjusted without affecting the volume. Good. The active/passive switch is awesome. The sound in passive mode has more detail, especially during the release phase of a note when the sound dies away, e.g. during a slide. But active mode is so useful. I play mostly in my home studio. For the money you spend, you'll get a VERY nice 5 string Bass. The wood that makes up the Bass, I got, is very good. The hardware is OK, let me qualify that the bridge and tuners are the OK part, both are more than adequate. The Pickups both sound very much like the pickups they are emulating. The pickup screws are another matter, they seem weak, as I was trying to raise them, they couldn't push hard enough to get the pickups higher and hold them there.As they came from the factory the pickups were decidedly low. I did a setup (intonation, string height and truss rod) using the strings that came with the Bass, and now the neck is comfortable (though somewhat thicker than the other 5 string necks I've played on) and holds the truss rod adjustment well....

The sound is perfect for any style of music. If you use two pickups at once with an open tone, then the sound is like Ibanez sr305 (imho) The tone of this bass can be very aggressive or soft. Suitable for both a beginner bassist and professional musicians (but for studio recording, you will have to replace the pickups with some seymour duncan). Came out of the box tuned to the scale. The height of the strings suits me as well (Under 1st fret <1mm under 12th fret 2.5mm), but maybe I'll lower it a bit because it's a little difficult to play.
