Höfner H500/1 LH Artist Violin Bass

Looks just as pictured, no false advertising. Colouring is exactly as shown, the sunburst shading and wood finishes are identical and look just like ones from the ‘60s, unlike the ‘burnt’ edging and orangish appearance of the Chinese models. It’s lightweight but doesn’t feel cheap and is definitely of Germany quality, very well built. I noticed the back of the headstock includes the “Made in Germany” sticker and the tuning pegs are connected by patterned metal plates, but they aren’t shown in these images, they are for the right handed 500/1 Artist images though which is strange - doesn’t bother me though, I was hoping for these features so I was glad to see them on the bass when it arrived. For this price range, I think this is as...

Extremely well put together bass, clear that a lot of attention to detail went into it. The combination of pickups + electronics give it a really wide range of tones to choose from. Definitely a bit more on the modern sounding end, whether that's a good thing or not dependings on what you're after of course. Neck/body is well balanced, no issues with neck-dive that I've had with some other basses. Pull toggle for switching to passive mode also makes me happy, no more worrying about running out of batteries.
Ibanez SR300EBL-WK

Hi all, just wanted to rate this product because it has everything a bass player could want (my opinion!) This particular Ibanez (SR300EBL-WK) is packed with flexibility and easily compares to basses twice (even 3x) the price. This is my second one - the first is still in perfect condition, but I bought this as a spare; always good to have. The weight? I have electric guitars that are heavier than this! It's a great light weight, perfect for gigging 3 or 4 nights a week. Between this and the Markbass amp, I can get pretty much any tone that I need. In fact, the bass can be so snappy for slap and pop lines but also warm and round for deeper lines WITHOUT changing anything once you'e found a tone that you like. I've had other players approach me saying that every note was distinct, even...

I own this bass for a year now, and quite satisfied! The good: Exceptional price/performance ratio! The finish is high quality. The neck is very smooth to play, tuning is rock stable, the tone of pickups is quite clear and dynamic, just the sound I strived for! Active EQ is quite versatile and almost noiseless when both pickups are on. First battery change after 6 months (beware: two 9Vs are needed!) The bad: Really no complaints except a sporadic burst of some tiny buzzing noise comes from the electronics (not discovered the cause yet.) For J bass fans, it is affordable and highly recomended!

I bought this bass after reading glowing reviews and was hoping for something just about playable, maybe needing some fret work and having some minor faults. I was surprised that this bass was set up perfectly and played very well out of the box. Furthermore, there were no QA issues. Frets were level with well dressed edges. The fit and finish are flawless and it plays and sounds great. On top of that, it came with good brand name strings worth €20. Honestly, for twice the price, this would still be a good purchase. There's really nothing to fault on it and nothing feels cheap.

Lefty Rick-o-like are pretty rare to say the least. So when I saw that bass poping up on some different youtube reviews, I found myself almost instantly hooked. But I was also a bit scared. Never have I ever bought any HB instrument before and, let's be honnest, I had my share of so called "GREAT" little brand basses. So I dug deeper, trying to find cons to balance the so many pros. After a moment, I had to admit the fact: people who tested it enjoyed it. So I finally ordered mine. It arrived perfectly packaged 2 days later and, like a kid, ran upstair to plug it and give it a first run. For me, when thinking about Rick basses, the two names that come to my mind are Lemmy Killmister and Cliff Burton. Okay, let's go then! Little tinkering to find the right settings and then...

I bought this two years ago and prior to that waited 6 months or so for it to be in stock. Excellent product. The red finish is stunning. The neck is so smooth, very chunky and much attention was given to the frets and bevelled fretboard edges. The nut was cut perfectly. The blend of old and new (belly cut, modern bridge) is just right. I took it to a local luthier to have the headstock reshaped to look like this design's original influence... He was gobsmacked by the instrument and purchased one himself (right handed). He found the bridge and tuners to be good quality and the factory installed strings were excellent (d'addarios) and the Roswell pickup fantastic. He recommended changing the potentiometers and output jack - which I said yes to. I was going to put flats on this bass but...

I had one of these as a teenager back in the early sixties and have always thought about buying or making another. There were very mixed reviews about this model at various places on the internet but being a luthier myself I thought that if it did have any minor issues I could easily sort them out. I must say the finish is stunning, I just don't know how a bass with a solid spruce top and flame maple back and sides can be made for this price. Well there was a dry joint on the switch assembly which took about five minutes to fix. I have fitted flat wound strings, which is more or less essential if you want that 60's Beatle bass sound and now I have to say that I actually prefer the sound of this bass to that of the one I had all those years ago. Update; two years on and I'm still...

I really love this bass guitar, it's my first bass guitar (I'm a normal guitar player) and I enjoy playing it a lot. It looks very nice, feels very solid, and the sound is pretty good! (certainly for it's price class!) On minor issue I had, is that the front screw that holds the ring to put the neck-strap on to at some point just jumped off of the bass guitar. I replaced it with a bit larger screw and never had any trouble again. Of course this shouldn't happen, but I'd still rate it 5/5 in general since it's just a lovely beast of a bass guitar. Great value for money!
