Marshall DSL20HR 5-stars Reviews
Value for money.
Excellent at this price range. Portable, loud and with plenty of features. highly recommended. no issues so far (5 yrs of usage). only the pedal included seems to be low quality.
The best Marshall for the price
I've bought my Marshall dsl 20 three years ago and I have to say its perfect for a rock and glam metal 80's sound. It's not suitable though for really high gain stuff like death metal and thrash metal as it's gain is the clasic marshall gain. But I'm a glam metal player and its sound really suits my type.
Good amp for a good price.
The amp has some good tones, but it can get a bit fizzy, especially with the presence knob. Overall I like it.
Great sounding amp
I've had a few Marshalls before so I'm really used to the Marshall sound and this amp does not disapoint. A great little amp for home use (a bit loud even on the 10w option - maybe an external power attenuator will help) and also when rehearsing with a drummer. I've got mine connected to 1x12 Celestion Vintage 30 and it sounds great. The classic channel is very nice on its own and a great base for experimenting with pedals but the highlight for me is the Ultra Gain channel. It sounds amazing. Great valve distortion! It's great on its own and it just sings with a booster like a tube screamer. It comes with a nice FX loop, an audio input and an speaker emulation / headphones output. I'm not very keen that the Audio Input and Emulated Out are 3.5mm instead of 6.3mm but that's me. If you are looking for a super versitile amp look no further. This amp rocks from metal to blues. Recommended!
A little beast
You can actually gig with this.
Marshall growl at affordable price
Amazing product at very affordable price. Sound pallette ranges from pristine clean to crunch to Metal-grade distortion.
Top amp
This amp is my first foray into the world of valve amps. A fantastic amp for the price with a range of tones readily available. Found my tone pretty quickly without much fiddling around. Works really well with the Marshall MX212 cabinet. A great buy don’t hesitate, spend your money and get one
Definitely Marshall, be small but strong
Im using it by connecting to UA OX.
Various heads are being used, but I dont think we should ignore them because they are small. It is small in size, but the sound is definitely Marshall.
You are wrong if you think 'DSL20H' too small to look like Marshall.
By the way.. Actually, its not that small.. LOL
Its the biggest mini head.
my first tube amp
this is my first tube amp. I previously had a 20w solid-state combo amp and the difference is huge between those two. To be honest I was hesitant at first but now I don't regret the decision that I made.
awesome amp head
i used to have a JVM410 and at some point i sold it because i needed the money. after that i was using digital modelers and computer sims for years. i could play the guitar as low as i liked and i wouldn't bother the wife and kids. it was ok for that but i never liked that digital fake sound. i told my self i would buy a real amp again at some point. i needed something that can be connected to the computer for recording, headphones for late night use and lower watts so i can use it without braking the windows. i found all i needed on the dsl20. also the tones i can get from this amp are phenomenal.. i can dial in from smooth jazz tones to heavy metal tones and everything in between. also i have been using the reverb and i really like it. things i added to the amp is a delay and chorus on effect loop and wah-wah and tuner on the front. I don't believe there is a tone I can't get from this setup. i am really happy with my purchase
Total beast
Very easy to setup and handle. Note that the amp is a bit loud for bedroom volume, best set to low output power. All in all can't find anything bad about the amp, it is an absolute beast. Paired with a 2x12 with Celestion V30 and it slays.
I love this amp
Is freakin' great, very versatile, from cleans, to rock, to 80's rock, to blues, to metal, love this freaggin' thing
Thank you very much
Goods arrived well.
Both packaging and delivery are great and I love the sound.
Thank you.
I wish the company's endless development.
Great sound at this price
A great tube amp at this price, but I think need a boost pedal for a better sound on the high gain.
Well worth the money
An incredible amplifier! Ideal for playing at home, it delivers high quality sound even in low power mode. Matches perfectly with the Harley Benton's 212 Vintage cabinet.
Pros:
* You'll get a shit-ton of gain
* Sounds great even with "all 12 o'clock" equalizer setup
* Full-size tubes (EL34)
* Good reverb
* Gorgeous stylish look from Marshall
Cons:
* The amplifier could be made a little more compact
* Need a booster pedal to get a "chugging" low-end
Marshall goodness!
I decided to get this amp as a transition to the analog world, having used only FX Pedals and SS Amps in the past. Now six months later, I know I made an awesome choice.
In general, this head offers the "real" Marshall experience at a low cost, and should not disappoint anyone knowing what they are going for. The sound is GREAT and the head is capable of being used for home practice at low volumes (with a relative tonal trade-off) or loud gigs where it transforms into a blasting beast.
Summing-up my experience, here what i've found:
Pros
- Classic Marshall tone, with loads of gain available
- EL34 Tubes sound amazing when played loud
- Takes pedals very well
- Improved compared to older JCM2000 models
- Sounds great on both 10 & 20 watt modes
- Reverb is fine
Cons
- As with any tube amp, low volume sacrifices tone and makes the sound fizzy. Still, the tone is acceptable at 2
- Single EQ and Reverb for both channels make switching not so seamless. Especially for live playing
- Tone switch sucks out the tone instead of scooping it
- Not much headroom for cleans, in case you want them crisp and loud
For me, this amp has replaced most of the gear I used to play on from day one. I mostly play rock and metal, and I can get a great variety of sounds by adjusting the knobs or adding a pedal or two. It seems like all the digital pedal configurations are not so important when you have one thing that actually works for you after all.
Justy what a guitar needs
Excellent quiet head, great tones , works a treat with my captive x 16 ohm,
have a blackbird preamp and it works really well either in thru the front pre or better in thru the fx loop and the power amp module , have changed all 3 tubes to lower gain tubes except v3 ruby tubes ax7. This gives you much better control over the distortion.
Have been using plugins up to this and this is a great improvement . The only plugin that seems to get close to an amp is the new soldano by neural.
A metalhead's best friend
The clean channel is amazing, it's bright and very charmy.
The gain channel sounds really good when it's paired with an overdrive on the front, and you can even use the FX Loop to add an EQ if you want a more modern sound.
This amp is really good and worth the 400 euros, takes pedals really well, has a sturdy build quality, and a great sound. Youtube offers a lot of tone demos, and for metal I recommend watching LambChopper678's videos on this amp. Cheers :D
Exceptional amp
Exceptional sound quality both on clean and distorted settings. All equaliser settings are usable and it has that familiar Marshall sound. Reverb is very nice and gentle. I use this amp for rock, blues and jazzy blues-rock music and it is really doing its tube magic! I would definitely recommend that amp!
Extraordinary sound quality and features for this price
It delivers good sound quality and tons of features for a reasonable price. Build quality is OK. Sound tone is really a Marshall one. You can have a big variety of gain without pedals: even ultra high gain is possible without pedals. Almost all settings are playable and readable as a British sound. Even high gain settings are still having the dynamic style of overdrive. Equalizer is OK, but keep in mind that you will not have a lot of different styles of sound with this amp. Those who want a modern (2000s) ultra gain will have to use a compressor with it. Even cabinet simulation is good, at least, for usage with good headphones.
Must have for home usage if you love tube sound.
