Millenium MCT-20 4-stars Reviews
As musician , soundtech and even lighting operator !
Multimeters both digital and analogue do the trick but this device brings just convenience thru its multiconnetors including sound both power signal as midi as ethernet as video bnc and so on and if you still work with non led or arc lamps you can use the 2 leads for continuity!
Tester pentru cabluri
Constructie solida, l-am testat rapid pe cateva cabluri defecte si functioneaza ok.
Essential kit
I've had mine for a good few years now. It can sit unused for long periods of time but always springs into action when needed.
Low cost but reasonable quality...
When I was extending my studio I needed to create a very stable dual network - one for audio (AVB) and one for control of the Presonus equipment.
This device helped me no end in ensuring the network connectors were satisfactory as I fitted them and then tested them with this unit.
There are many other cable test features on this unit and for the money it worked well (and still is) for our studio environment where you can get cables creating problems at any time.
Low cost answer to find those dodgy cables, but it is one that does work.
Recommended.
mixed feelings but happy for the pricce
The battery is not very well secured and needs to be removed when not in use.
A better locking system for the battery could have been nice.
Otherwise it works well and do well its job
Great multipurpose cable tester
The Millenium MCT-20 can test basically any cable you desire, 3 pin XLR, 5 pin XLR etc to basically any other cable and a good price.
The biggest drawback is that it requires a 9V battery to operate and the housing this lives in is cheap and plastic compared to the rest of the cable tester which is metal, on my model the 9V battery compartment can sometimes partly fall out and needs to be pushed back in by a light jolt, which is a bit annoying,
good but already lost the battery
Good build. but i already lost the batterij and the insert! if you bump it somewhere the battery jumps out. overal the tester works really good, and extra nice is the loos tester cables that you can use for all different applications.
Very handy at a Tour, Shop or TD
Brilliant but ugly
As far as cable testers go, this one is excellent. It can test a huge amount of different types which is essential for me. The only con for me is the look of the unit. It's big, ugly and yellow! I know with so many testing options, the size probably couldn't be helped but maybe the colour could have!
Cable Tester MCT-20
For the price this tester is a great deal. I use it all the time and it has never stopped working. Sturdy enough housing as well.
Very useful unit
I play in a five piece rock band and am mainly responsible for the audio setup , so I have a bag full of XLR and 1/4 inch cables.
This unit was invaluable in setting up the PA to be able to quickly check my cables, coz they do get fizzley and stop working. Soldering iron time anyone - but thats a seperate topic.
The only thing I would like to see added to this would be a positive and negative sound to supplement the test.
A must have unit for the audio engineer / PA guy
A tool Kit must have.
Able to test a huge selection of cables quickly and easily. simple to use, even for inexperienced users.
Only issue I've had is (after a lot of abuse admittedly) is the battery holder coming loose. not a major issue and something quickly solved with tape. still wouldn't be without one and would happily buy again
Very handy diagnostic tool
A must in the gig bag and great for tracking down the source of trouble caused by faulty cables. The quality is OK but the XLR connector was a little ill-fitting on one side. Metal casing and nice bright leds.
Good value for the money
The tool initially came with the 9V battery compartment plastic drawer chipped at the corner. I didn't bother myself with sending the tool back but bought the replacement plastic part at the local electronics component supplier for like 5 EUR and am pretty happy ever since.
The features I use the most have saved me lots of nerves in the live situations: the sockets for checking the cables with TRS / XLR type plugs; the RJ-11/45 sockets are also fine if you are troubleshooting your LAN. And finally the simple continuity meter using the provided probes is a good reason not to carry your proper multimeter to a live gig. The unit is not battery hungry. Built like a tank.
The only donwsides are:
- the tool is guite bulky, it is around two average effect pedals size and weight wise
- there comes no gigbag with it, so I use a heavy duty blister packaging for carrying it around
If the tool gets broken or lost I would consider buying smaller one from the same maker.
Indespensable
The Millenium MCT-20 is an indispensable piece of kit, that is both at home in the studio and on the road.
Operation is simple and the LED indications give clear readings. Never mind all this belling out of individual terminals with a multi-meter just plug each end of your cable into both connections and read open or closed circuit on all elements of your cable.
The MCT-20 will test all standard analogue audio cables; microphones, midi, phono, cat5, 1/4 and 3.5mm jack, speaker, with various configurations.
The unit also includes a handy continuity checker with audible indication, and an internal battery check.
Construction is a rugged metal enclosure with rubber feet to protect the most fragile of surfaces.
Overall a very keenly priced and simple to use piece of equipment.
Perfect!
Totally amazing for this price! Has everything to check, and its easy to use!
Easy led light to check every single cable inside your cable if it's fully functioning. and it fits almost every possible cable inside the music industry!
There could be a little display yo show voltage of a battery if you have to replace the rechargable ones or something like that, and i would pay the extra money that it will cost for that
In other ways, GREAT tool! Well done!
A great investment
I bought this cable tester a while back and boy has it served me good. Its super easy to use, understand and is built to last. The only thing i would like to see is a on / off switch, but thats more psychological than anything else. Since the circuit only closes when you use it, it doesnt need one. I would definitely recommend people to buy one if you work with sound / lights. Its a time saver, and its dirt cheap!
Best tester I've used in a long time!
This has got to be the best and most useful cable tester I've used in a long time! rugged construction and connections for all the most common cables (Even RJ -45 network cables).
very handy
i bought this little cable tester on a wim thinking it may come in handy. can honestly say it was the best £17 I've ever spent it has haley every type of cable your likely to fined on your day to day life in live entertainment and has a very simple design you plug one end in and then the other the cicitry connects up and you get 2 lights all indicated so pin one lights up and shows you what its connected to and so on for how ever many pins are in you cable the red and black prongs are a nice quick test for anything you can fit into the device like batteries ext... it donsn't give you any reading out but it dose make a nose its not a multi meeter but its a nice extra to have the one complaint i have about this item iff i had to say something would be the battery holder is a bit flimsy i fined myself pushing it in all the time but for the price i really can't complain its nice and solid and seems to be bolt like a tank!
would definitely recommend to a friend!
test
this cabletester is a good device which should be in every sound engineers bag.
ive been using mine for years and has many good optiens. even testing cat5 or din is not a problem.
Very good for this price
I owend this thing alomst two years ago and for me it is the best investment since long time. I does what its build for. I almost solder may cables by myself and it saved me from many mistakes that that i made. Nothing is worse if you want to use a cableand something is wrong. With the MCT-20 you can check everything immediate. The only thing is that the frame for the battery int build very well. So you have to check it always bevor using it. But for that price it is really fine. After all it is identical to other (more expensive) cable testers like the Palmer, usw...
