Millenium MCT-20 5-stars Reviews
Works great.
Only problem I have with this product is that the battery does not stay in. It has to be held in place to work correctly. When using the multi meter you don't really have any spare hands to be doing this.
Excellent product. But the battery compartment DOH!
OK at first I thought this is the worst designed battery compartment ever. It did not make contact with the terminals well enough to keep contact. I was about to return it when I tried one last time. This time I pushed in and down and I heard a click... and now I think its the best designed battery compartment ever. In and down.
Well this is a must tool for any tech, sound engineer or musician if you are a sole traveller. Bands, buy one. At this price its the cheapest of its kind. But the quality of the unit is unbelievable. This is a tank.
Plug one end of the cable into the correct socket. Plug the other end to the correct socket for it. And config seems to be catered for. Turn the switch to the numbers. The corresponding light will light up. Now you will need to know a little about how your cables should be wired but for guitar leads and balanced xlr, 1 to 1 , 2 to 2 and 3 to 3 should be the norm.
If the connectors are not standard, you can even use the supplied probes to test continuity. It beeps. So no need to hold the probes steady to glance at a light.
With connectors in place, shake the cable whilst testing and you will see if theres a break.
Now it is not going to fix your cables, but it will tell you which ones are good to use and which ones need to go to the repair man or the bin.
Its big and bulky to allow for speakon cables. It is worth every penny.
All you need is a 9v battery. It even has a built in battery check.
Why did I hesitate so long??
With multimeters kicking around the place, and one in my gig box, I never could justify the need for this test box until I had an impulse to throw one in my "next" T order. Its brilliant, all the common connections ready to plug into, the real beauty is when you have an intermittent problem on a guitar or mic lead, before you needed 4 hands to juggle the test probes of the meter and move the cable to find the fault without upsetting your handheld connection (the quality of which often becoming the subject of the fault!!) ....no more with this baby, just plug in, jiggle the cable and fault found in seconds - move on - brilliant ....Get one!!
Wonderful little tester.
This is a great little tester for all sorts of cables and more.
One and only critism is the xlr sockets, the tester came with plastic body xlr sockets, so the tester could never check pin-1 shorts to casing.
A quick swap for metal body sockets and all was well.
A must for all working in live sound applications
This is a MUST to own for anyone working in live sound applications. A timesaver when troubleshooting cable connection issues. It has all the connectors you usually find in live sound applications so you can test almost any cable used nowdays. I never leave on tour without it. Battery lasts forever. Price is ridiculously low, standalone connectors cost more if you buy them separately. You can't go wrong with this one.
Great piece of kit!
One of the handiest tools you can have working in audio...check every cable before it goes out the door, or on stage. handles just about every plug and cable combination you'll need. Nice colour for dark environments, battery battery lasts and lasts. Solid construction, can't go wrong!
excellent product
excellent product
essential gear
cant fault this cable tester, saved me hours while testing cables and chasing down faults at live shows, the probes are also useful (even more so when you get some aligator clips in there) build quality is great and hasn't failed me yet.
Affordable and very useful
Anyone using electronic equipment should have one of these at their side. Its extremely affordable for something so useful. It test virtually every type of cable and is very easy to use. Don't risk testing your cables any other way.Get your hands on one of these.
Don't leave home without it!
A fine piece of equipment, exceptional value for money and easy to use.
I noticed that someone complained about the socket quality. Yes they aren’t the best or the most expensive but if they were it would cost upwards of 2-3 times as much. Current price at time of writing is only €21.90 !!!!!
The only things I would have liked and I will try and find are,
1. a suitable case for it and the test leads.
2. a power switch ON/OFF
Not sure there is actually enough space to fit a switch and that might be why there isn’t one. If I get a good case then I won't need a switch.
No need to think twice about buying one and would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a tester.
A must have for all musicians with their own sound gear
No more messing with multi meters when you have a dodgy lead, just plug in, turn the dial and if there is a fault, your hands are free to check where the break may be.
Strong metal construction and a wide range of sockets to test from jack plugs to cat5.
Well made
This has been so useful since I bought it. It is a sturdy and well made unit which works when you need it too.
Having used it on gigs many times it stands up to being toured.
great tool
I love my Millenium MCT-20 for checking the most relevant audio cables on the market. Pluggin into some jacks is a bit stiff, but it works well and checking cables is done very fastly as of now.
Cable Tester
This is a good quality and extremely useful piece of kit. It's not the most exciting thing you'll ever buy but is essential for fault finding in a studio or live environment. The only criticism i have is that i can't quite fit angled MIDI cables into the inputs, but that's a very minor criticism given the amount of features on offer. Easy to use and well built.
Versatile and Reliable
The cable tester is very easy to use and is able to check the continuity of almost every cable I've encountered in the field. The item is quite bulky to accommodate all of the sockets.
Very handy
This has a good quality build and casters for all my cables, great buy.
life saver
A must have for any one in the business. an easy way to trouble shoot any cable or bulb. Rugged design and easy to use and maintain at a economical price.
I bought this tool to inspect and test all my house cable. it speeds up the process with reliable results and is very easy to use.
with the addition of the probes it becomes useful for any electrical item where continuity test is necessary..
If you are a stage tech or sound engineer you should have one of these in the tool box.
Superb cable tester
This unit will test virtually every cable in the musician's bag and has been a life-saver on a few occasions when trying to identify intermittent cable problems. My only complaint resulting in slight down marking, was the quality of the test leads. The plugs didn't mate well with the sockets on the unit so I remade with new plugs to improve the reliability of the cconnection. But otherwise the functionality and robustness for the price are superb.
Superb piece of kit; excellent value-for-money
This does everything the live sound engineer could want...
...and it's built like a tank.
And for those cables it cannot test, you can always make up an adaptor. One of life's little life-savers.
More accuracy
Before I bought this item i used a regular voltmeter to check if I soldered/screwed together my cables right. It's hard to obtain accurate reading with the narrow tips on the voltmeter escecially on speakon-cables so this MCT-20 is just great.
When I first got it I would test the function and tried a 1/4 to 1/4-cable but it didn't go all the way in. But it was just a little piece of plastic (not from the device) that was stuck in there. I poked it out and never had a problem since.
The cable tester has a very simple display. Easy to understand and it makes me happy when my cables ok.
