Moog Mother-32 5-stars Reviews
Great Synth
Probably the best value-for-money synth I've ever bought. Incredible punch, with the ability to provide bass that I've never had in my synth setup.
Reputation for Moog's filters definitely checks out, and it delivers the classic Moog sound without having to spend a lot of money.
Great chance to start and think about modular/eurorack, and the patch bay gives a lot of possibilities and chance to tinker with the sound.
Good build quality, nice and user-friendly interface for programming and parameter manipulation on the fly.
Only gripe is lack of power button. If I had the budget I would probably buy two more.
Amazing portable synth
This might be one of the best pieces of analogue hardware to invest into. A solid starting point for those interested in analogue modular synthesis as well. It sounds amazing, no complaints in that department :D Mother is capable of producing a wide range of sounds/noises and if you combine that with altering those sounds in post, the opportunities are vast. My only concern is that I'm not sure how sturdy the toggle switches are, they feel like they might break sooner than you might expect. Also having a power on button as opposed to disconnecting the power supply every time would be nice. I get that this synth probably is usually a part of a Eurorack, but for those less rich of us, an ON/OFF button would be great. Overall, a wonderful piece of gear.
Best eurorack starting kit.
Nothing else to say. This is the best way to start gettin into eurorack. Best bang for a buck.
Excellent
Personally I feel the Mother-32 give an excellent build quality and Legendary Moog sound. Very powerful sequencer. Plays well with other Eurorack modules.
Awesome synth
The Moog filters rule.
It is a very nice synth.
Controls are high quality.
I love it and will definetly buy at least 1 more.
MOOG sound at a price
Update 24/07/17
Just took delivery of a second M32. Have been playing around syncing the seq together and patching from one to the other. Amazing range of tones and sound, If you have one get another one, your gonna love it.
Without a doubt the mother 32 is a good piece of kit. If your looking for that Moog sound at a price then look no further. Filters are excellent and provide a wide range of variation in tone along with modulation and LFO. Knobs are solid and feel precise, however not so sure about the mini toggle switches over time. Patch bay is comprehensive and seems to provide many options but I have only started to play around with this. I had no problem syncing a volca beats and SQ1 with the internal sequencer. Using other CV gear seems with it seems to work ok. Having said that using it with an MS20 mini maybe a problem due to v sync and s sync differences between the two machines. Overall I am very happy with the Mother 32 and will probably get another one.
Pros: great sounds, easy to use and set up, great fun. Connect a MIDI keyboard for even greater fun with the sequencer.
Cons: only has Midi in and no USB which is a serious omission in my opinion, yes plenty of CV and Gate options but USB and or MIDI out would have been good.
my first moog
beautiful sound) deepes bass, sweet seq!!!!
The Mother of them all...
An East Coast style voice with a 32 patch points with a fairly well featured sequencer in the Eurorack format from Moog; that is the M32. At this price point and coming from Moog i think its fair, considering that a standalone sequencer can almost reach its value in price.
It can easily be the stating point to entry the Eurorack format or it could be the center of a small system if this is sort of thing you look for.
The patch points:
It has all the patch points in/outs that you would expect which were already included on its predecessor the the Werkstatt 01, but it adds some that can otherwise be found in individual modules offered by several brands, for example CV MIX act as a VCA/mixer, attenuator (for audio and CV signals), fixed voltage source/offset. A MULT section is also included for sending signal to different destinations. Tempo/clock/run/reset for controlling the sequencer and the most exciting one is Assignable out, which can deliver clocks, accent, variable CV, triggers and more via midi values.
As a personal opinion, the highlight of the M32 is the sequencer which is very hands on and having the patch points away from the knobs and buttons, it makes it very comfortable to play, you always know which octave you are in and the feedback of the sequence is also very good once you get to know it.
Having the Moog filter in the Eurorack format is definitely a plus for many, but i have the feeling that something changed this time when designing this filter, my ears tell me that my Werkstatt's filter delivers a better creamy bass response than the M32, even with a good amount of resonance. But at the end this just a matter of preferences.
The way i use it is next to West coast style modules so that i can get the best of each philosophy and also get all types of synthesis not only subtractive synthesis.
