Neumann KM184 mt Stereo Set Reviews
Best mics!
These pairs are amazing. You can't go wrong with such a good-quality mic. They are so precise and take the best of any instrument.
I am really loving these mics, they were pretty much an eye opener for me having no previous experience with small condenser microphones. I use them for acoustic and also hollow body and solid body electric guitar. They sound amazing and reveal a lot of detail.
Two âlil ears
There’s nothing not to love about this pair. They listen to the drums overhead and send the right messages to preamps. I tried one on hats and the pair on acoustic ahead and behind the strum and they were beauts. The M149 and U87 and demons in their own right but these two take up the position of quality lightweight chores.
the best i tried so far
for my demanding acoustic instrument collection i could not find better mics to translate the sound exactly as needed like these km184s , specially for the money. i appreciate the craftsmen behind this mic very much.
comes in beautiful box with all accessories needed.
highly recommended for all kinds of acoustic instruments
Top end recording
Beautifully designed, excellent quality and stunning audio recording. I will use these microphones as a go to in my studio for acoustic instruments.
Great set of microphones
I use this for my own piano recordings and for online worship service. The mics are very warm sounding and are very clear. My favourite use for them is in ORTF configuration for classical piano recordings.
Amazing quality at this price
At this price you can't go wrong. These are used professionally and I use them for classical recordings. But keep in mind that the frequency response is limited below 100 Hz or so (it starts falling at 200Hz). This can be seen on the frequency response graph. Anyway, paired with a good set of omnis you get amazing response.
Accurate mic
Very high definition in high frequencies. Perfect for acoustic guitar
great!
those mics sound great on everything I've tried so far. drums, bass amp, guitar amp, acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, flute. just great.
Great microphones, but different than KM84 Predecessor
Have had a chance to use the mics in several different recording situations. Close miking an acoustic guitar in a dry room and in NOS configuration in a concert hall on a piano and soprano soloist.
The mics are fantastic quality! There is absolutely no self noise to speak of. They are crystal clean and extremely sensitive. That being said, it is important to realize that this type of response is not always what you want. There is only a slight HF lift but the the capsules are so sensitive that they seem to feature the high-frequency content of every sound source.
Where a Cello a French horn or a Steinway piano in a live hall may benefit from this, other sources like a hard strummed guitar or a very bright soprano will have a tendency to have the warmth of their mid and low-mid frequency range be over-shadowed by this hyper-real sparkle. An example of this is hearing too much of the pick noise on a strummed guitar and not enough of the tone. And this delicate balance can't easily be fixed by EQ.
However in a mix, this may be the thing you need!
I am definitely keeping these mics.
Workhorse microphones
I love these microphones. I record mostly acoustic based music (vocals, guitar, national resonators, mandolin, etc). and I've use these mics solo, in X/Y and paired with other mics. Putting one of these in tandem with a Neumann M147 has got me some great results on almost everything I record.
Dream come true
I wanted to buy these few years back, but instead bought Rode NT5s after reading many reviews compared both and put NT5 close to (or some even put above) KMs.
Now I bought pair of these myself and compared, and I can see (hear) what I've been missing for all these years, the natural sound, not the harsh sound of NT5.
Great tools for the value.
Really a must have studio microphone when recording acoustic instruments or using as overheads. Great room mics for ORTF and XY techniques. Small in size makes it easy to squeeze into tight spaces. I use those in live situation also. Great workhorses with really nice sound and Neumann quality!
Very good mics
These mics are really good. The price point is not cheap, but fair. The neumann quailty is immediately present when listening to recorded material. Stereo recordings of acoustic guitar is a dream. Works well on strings/choir and piano as well. I use these ones on guitar in the studio all the time, and as grand piano mics for live use on all my gigs. They have a slight accentuated top and rolled of bass, which in most cases is just perfect. They are slick, and comes in an even slicker case. I strongly recommend these mics.
