Pearl D-790 Drum Throne Reviews
Amazing value for money
excellent and high quality throne! very comfortable, totally recommend it
High quality for affordable money
I'm fully satisfied with the chair. I had Pearl D-730S few years ago and it has passed the test of regular use at home and in the studio without any broken parts after all. So I trust the brand already and D-790 is even more solid with it's reinforced lower section. The upper part is the same and sometimes needs to tighten the screw, otherwise it moves and creaks a bit, but again - you tighten it with one move and the problem goes away.
The seat is good: not too soft, not too hard. I would probably recommend this throne, especially for it's price.
Great drum throne. Easy to set up and its high enough even for longer players. Its sturdy and build quality is very good.
Good quality overall.
The seat itself is spongy and doesn't seem solid in long term. It could be more sturdy but overall it's good enough quality, does the job.
Good throne
Bought for studio as main drum throne.
As our drummer said, for the price it is ok.
From time to time it the clamp needs retightening. And no, the drummer is not a big guy.
Good quality
Very nice quality and finish of the materials. Feels comfortable and stable. I'm really happy with the purchase.
Just a throne
Good for the price. Nothing fancy though. When sitting for longer periods of time your butt hurts a little. It does the job, but just that.
Cant beat it for the price
For the money this throne cost it is a bargain. Light, stable, folds to a compact size, and doesn't slip lower and lower while playing. For reference I weigh about 75kg. I couldn't ask for more really.
Good and lightweight but after two hours your bum will be a little sore
Poor quality from one of the big names
I bought this stool as a replacement to an older one thinking that buying Pearl would give me some quality.
Pretty hard stool. For some they might like that but i found it got uncomfortable quite quickly.
The seat height adjustment mechanism broke within a few months and now the stool is pretty useless to me. Best use now is as a funky looking plant stand.
So not recommended.
Great stuff
We use the stool once a week and after a few months, it still works great and is of great quality.
Great for a beginner
If you are a beginner and you cannot stretch the budget for a more pricey throne, this will be perfect for you.
The quality is good and I can fairly say that you can easily sit on it for more than 2 hours without any pain.
As some of the other reviews are mentioning, the initial setup is a bit of a pain, but it's nothing mind blowing.
It's a pretty good chair, except the fact that no matter how tight I spin the key, it won't hold above the bottom limit
it,s okay
it's okay but if you have more money buy a sturdier one. this one moves downwards from time to time.
It's a good choice for home use. Solid, nice and good price. Simply Pearl ... Best regards, amateur drummer.
It's sturdy, it's comfy and you can adjust it to sit quite high. Nothing more to add.
Very good for this price
Can?t complain about this item, it does it?s job well. Of course there are much better ones which are more pro but they also cost much much more.
Pearl quality for the best price
When it comes to bringing out the best of You on drums, one the main things is to feel free and comfortable while playing, and a drum throne certainly plays an essential part to that. To me, a stable drum throne is as important as sticks and pedals.
I bought this one because of the price and the reliable Pearl quality. Been using it for almost a year now for rehearsals and I always bring it along to the shows as it is quite light compared to other drum thrones and easy to set up.
While playing, it stays stable and doesn't jiggle around which is the main the thing You should be looking for in a drum stool.
A minus is that it takes a memory lock to fix it at a certain height (it comes with the throne). Without it, the throne tends to drop height. And even with having it screwed as tight as possible, it slowly lowers over time.
The throne is perfect if You are light or medium weight like me (75 kilos). For bigger guys, I'd suggest looking for a larger stool as the seat itself is quite small.
Overall +/-:
+ definitely the price, drum thrones tend to be really expensive while this is not;
+ it functions exactly as it should - really stable for its size;
+ the seat feels comfortable;
+ Pearl quality and longevity;
- the lock system takes some time to fix at the height You need;
- small seat.
If You are looking for Your first drum throne, this is the perfect choice!
very noisy
not a great stool if you want to use it in a recording session
Good throne for its prize
This throne is stable and sturdy. The lock holds it in place. There is a memory lock for how much you want the legs to be spread, which is nice. The seat doesn't spin which is a big plus, considering there are drum thrones with much worse seat locks.
BUT - if you are a big guy, I would suggest buying a throne with wider seat. I am about 175cm/60 kg and when I play with a double pedal in high tempos, I feel a bit unstable.
It is light and easy to carry/store. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking to buy your first drum throne and you are on a tight budget. I would NOT invest in any smaller throne though. In my experience, anything smaller than this won't do you good if you are anywhere after a super-beginner player.
It would be ideal for your kids/students if you are school teacher.
I am happy with my choice of buying it, especially given how much it cost, but I next time, I will invest a bit more and get a more stable throne.
