Sennheiser E604

I love these, both live and studio they are so robust and take any un-intentional abuse very well,on the studio side like a lot of clip ons they have come in for comparison sometimes criticism with stand mounted mics, but anybody I've worked with loves the sound results of these, i use them on toms in studio,live they work great for a quick and easy set up snare&toms,i front mic'd a Bodhran once sounded epic!

A workhorse

Use them for rack toms. Easy, saves space and records nicely. Them being hyper cardiod does help with the bleed too.

Bargain, convenient and nice sound.

Great mic with great low end response

I have MD421 for a very long time, and well, for me this mic works well on the same level. Low end response is different, but I always have impression that E604 by default sits better in a mix. Of course both are great mics! Highly recomended!

Great value for money

I have 2 of the E904's and was told that the 604's are the same with a budget casing. I use them for live and the quality is exactly the same as the 904's.

The classic Tom Mic

The sennheiser E604 is the classic tom tom microphone.

The sound of the 604 is clear, crisp and big, probably due to the proximity effect of the dynamic capsule.

The best thing about the e604 is however the clip! It's well-design and robust making it super easy to place it on the majority of toms with a metallic hoop.

Also, since its made of very robust plastic it can take a it, which is probably to happen since their proximity to a drummers sticks.

There are mics that sound better but for just for the practicality and lifespan of the 604 it totally deserves a place in any tech/drummer mic bag.

My go-to for Toms

I love these mics, they are my go-to mic for use on toms and have been for many years. I prefer them to more expensive mics like the Shure Beta 98s. I find they give me a more consistent sound than small condensers and they're so quick and easy to clamp on a tom. Very reliable clamp. Can also be screwed onto mic stand for use with cajon, etc

Great little mic

Ive been playing Irish bodhran drums for a long time and trying different types of mics but with no success until I came across this little mic that works superbly and has great bass as well as high tones.

Plug-n-Play Favourites

Wonderful, robust mics that are a breeze to setup. The sound check usually lasts 5 minutes with them. And the drum set always sounds beefy and warm. The 600's are rightfully a frequent choice of many sound engineers. Best -buy

I needed a microphone for tom

I needed a microphone for tom, I heard many opinions, many videos, it finally convinced and do not regret it, the price is right and the quality as well, recommended

Never let you down!

These are my go to microphones for snare miking. I'm not really a fan of the supplied rim clamp, but that's just really a question of preference and not me saying it's useless. When miking toms, snare and bass drum beater side this is my go to microphone.

best mic

Best mic for the money! Sounds great on almost anything. Almost identical sound to the classic MD421. Check the specs!

As a sound technician I use a alot of different mics (421, shure beta, audio technica & beyer dynamic) live and in the studio but when it comes to price the 604 is side by side with classic sm57 the most versitile mic. Actually i have never tested it on guitar (i will) but its a killer on toms!

Excellent

This is just a perfect tom microphone. They just sound great even on a really bad drum kit. They have been hit many many times with drumsticks at full blow and no change in integrity or sound. They can be set in any sane angle, they even clamp on unusual drum hoops (e.g. Amati) and it has cable management. I can only recommend it.

drum mics

used them on the toms and floor toms, good vlaue for money and sound qualiy superb apart of the ease use of the clip to clip them to the rim of the toms

a great polyvalent mic

this is a great plyvlant mic. I use it especially on toms and snare. easy to fix.

Small but perfectly formed!

Having both read various reviews of different mic options in the Eur100 budget mark and taken guidance from experienced live tour engineers, I opted for three of these mics for 2 rack and a floor tom.

The combination of a solid, predictable sound from a very modestly sized mic together with a simple, robust clip on attachment makes for a winning combination at the price.

The build quality is impressive too - although only a dozen or so shows old, a couple of them are bearing tiny stick marks from wayward drummers (!) but their performance is unaffected.

I've no previous experiences with alternative options to offer by way of comparison but as a newcomer I'd highly recommend these mics as a great starting point for live drum sounds!

Solid and easy to use.

Great to clip on toms for a super easy live drum mic scenario. Don't sound groundbreaking, but take EQ really well and win every time for drummers who don't like big mics surrounding their kit.

Sennheiser E604

All the top bands use these mics. So if its good enough for them, its good enough for me. They are great because the mics just clip on to any drum hoop (I've even had them on a conga drum too). They work perfectly, although, as they are easy to drop, I have had one or two pack up on me, whether that was due to a faulty mic or that I'd dropped them once or twice, who knows. Good mics.

My favourite drum mic

I have always used e604s for toms. While I also like the Audix D2/D4 microphones, they are a bit big and bulky in comparison to the e604. The clamps are very good too, made of some kind of indestructible plastic/rubber type material and clip onto drum rims very easily and securely. They sound big and bold, allowing toms to cut the mix with ease, and what sounds like an accentuated 4k attack. The body of the mix is moulded plastic, which doesn't seem like the best material for being in the danger zone of drum sticks. However, I have had 3 of these for 3 years and they have multiple stick marks, but the plastic has never been damaged. The only mic I have similar to this but better build quality and more 'open' sounding is the e904, but that costs more ???!

Also surprisingly good on guitar cabs, especially if you want something close to the 421 sort of sound.
