Shure SM 7 B 5-stars Reviews
Brilliant Dynamic Mic
I've been using this mic primarily to record voice-overs for home video-productions and the clarity, and quality is fantastic.
I'm looking forward to using this in amore musical context but zero complaints so far.
Great legendary mic!
Not only for vocals but for guitar/bass cabs, snares, trumpets, sax etc.
(beware of using a good and strong preamp for the job!
excellent mic :)
i use it together with apollo twin and results are great :) clear sound, robust material, excellent in home production environment.
massive gain or forget it, not for VO
You need gain to use this mic. don't even try it on your 2i2 even with a cloudlifter CL1. You need well over 65dbs of gain to get it's infamous pop/rock perfection. As good as it sounds, you can't use it for voice over or narration because of a lack of definition in the crucial frequencies.
2nd one I have bought!
This is a tank of a microphone, you can scream in to it or record loud guitar cabs, it will take anything.
You do however need a good pre amp, as its a low output microphone.
Great crossover mic
Used the SM7B in vocals, guitar amp and also as a room mic. Great clarity and sound quality, close to matching a condenser, without needing the extra 48V of power. Only thing you have to be careful with, is that it needs at least 60dB of average gain from your preamp.
MICROPHONE OF THE STARS
My dream microphone has always been a Neumann U-87. I finally bought one for my studio last year, and it is an amazing microphone, but not for every voice, because it?s very sensitive. I?d seen a few videos of Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters using an SM 7B in the studio, and did some research to find out what microphone it was. In my research I found the Green Day also records with the SM 7B, and Michael Jackson recorded the entire "Thriller" album with it. It?s a great alternative mic to the Neumann U-87, because it needs a LOT of gain 60db to even function, and you can literally get right up on it and scream without it clipping. And the sound quality is great. Very affordable microphone with amazing sound. Very happy with my purchase.
Nice microphone
Great on Vocals. Used it on Female Vocals with great resultat. Makes a thin voice bigger.
It?s really Nice to have access to a lowcut filter to reduce lowend rumble.
The only dissadvantage is that it needs alot of gain from your Preamp or interface.
I use it with a cloudlifter to get more gain with great results.
Great value for the price.
Best microphone till now
This is the best microphone i had till this day, in terms of sound, As everyone is saying, if you have a simple audio interface, like focusrite or something, the microphone will sound too low. You will need to buy an external preamp like the Cloudlifter Cl-1
Nothing to say. It's SM7 )
classy mic
very good mic for recording male voice, guitar
It's not legendary for nothing.
Whoa! I heard really a lots of recording made with this microphone, and was looking for a lots of reviews and tests before buying it, but it still blew my mind when I plugged it in and the sound what right on spot without doing anything, just setting the gain!
It just a brilliant microphone and it's really not a legendary for nothing.
Must Have
Designed for radio voices, but it has a lot of uses. A must have in my opinion for heavy vocals, screams, growls, any kind of heavy vocals. Works great for Hip Hop as well. You can use it for guitar tracking, drums shells, really you can't go wrong with this mic. Has a low cut and a mid range boost you can toggle on and off. GET THIS.
Fantastic mic
I bought this as an alternative to my condenser mic for vocals.
Brilliant sound, although I do EQ a fair bit after, and great background noise reduction if you're tracking in a less than ideal environment.
One of the best
I bought this microphone for recording loud and extreme vocals. It's interesting that there was no sound of my bad (acoustically) room in recordings. So i'm glad to use this microphone to record all types of vocals. And it has a very good sound for dynamic mic.
perfect choice
this is the perfect choice for my voice. i bought it without testing before but much better that i thought. the mic has a little compressor effect and smoothing the spikes in the recorded sound that much more easier to set the expected volume. the original windshields a little smashes the sound but if you use a simple popfilter instead the result much better. other important thing is the volume level. you will need a lot of power for it. i have an apogee and an apollo audio interface as well and they have enough gain to record without mic preamp but most of the cheaper interfaces that use directly pick up too much noise. it's a dynamic mic with cardioid characteristic but plenty collect outer noises. not like a condenser mic but i think you will can not use on stage.
a year ago I bought an apogee element interface and realized that the uad apollo interfaces has not enough gain for it and the sound a little bit drowned because the element get me a surprisingly better results (on element able to set +75dB gain instead of the apollo's 65dB and the apogee one's 62dB) the noise completely disappeared and the sound much more opened. so my opinion is if you don't want to buy a preamp the only solution an apogee interface like duet 2 or better (didn't found any other interface that more than 65dB)
Shure SM 7 B
Great Mic for Recording vocals, acoustic guitars, electric guitar amps.
It great for even in the rooms that doesn't have a good acoustic is doing this very well!! I really love this mic!!
great mic
best mic for rock vocals! be aware that you need a soundcard or preamp that can put some extra gain in there, as the signal is weak.
Nice microphone
Great for vocal and hihats
very solid mic
really warm sounding mic, fits in the mix straight away in the songs that i use this mic for. nicely fit box to protect the mic as well, easy to stock. one of the best mics you can get for that price!
