Mic Pre
Sturdy, great looking mic pre which so far I have tried with bass drum and snare. Sounds amazing so far and I feel it still has a huge amount left to offer. Very very happy with this purchase
good preamp
pretty good for its price. it makes you feel that the sound is turned up and stereo image is formed.
too good for the price
adds a really nice contrast to my SPL Crimson which has really clean, transparent cleans. This has a lot of warmth to it and will bring any cheap mic to life. Came with a scratch on top but I don't care that much.
It's good. Very good!
I've used this to mic up my pianos, and it produces a lovely clean recording. It has a really nice build quality, and I'm very happy to have picked this. I'll be getting more of then as I expand my studio.
Great for controlling and shaping dynamic vocals.
Made a big positive difference to my vocal recordings in particular.
UR242 + SPL Goldmike test
I have two TLM103 , and Steinberg UR242 .
I connect first mic to Goldmike then to UR242 , and the second mic directly to Ur242 . MY result was :
The Goldmike was ONLY 1% or 4% better than Direct mic .
For me I prefer now to buy Tube mic or buy the 2000$ preamp but not cheap one anymore.
SPL GOLDMIKE
Great sound and texture. Very sensible and accurate.
Great for the prize!! :D
Pretty good sounding, great for the price
This preamp awesome for its price. In general it sounds good, with a low noise floor and plenty of gain. It also looks amazing.
Nice unit for this price
Using this for tracking vocals, guitars, some synths like Kronos. It's not has a lot of "tube" character, but some of this it has. As vocals, as instruments - they all have more power, legibility in the mix. So it's all what I needed when I bought it.
It has nice "flair" button, that intellegently, neatly adding some presence in the signal you record.
It has a small VU-meters, but it's not problem for me.
Good value
Very good pre amp. Especially with my rode classic 1. I also used it with a Sony C48 very good results.
good working tools
good working tools. like it very much
My beloved SPL Goldmike
This is a "must have" item in a medium to large home studio. So I bought a second one.
Perfect tone, transparent preamp, which I extensively use for drum overheads condenser mikes as well as kick and snare dynamic mikes, thanks to the second unit. I also use the TL Audio preamps which bring more color and drive...
This was my first good quality pre amp, and to this day still use it extensively. Fantastic on all sources and the "flair" function is colourful yet delicate and extremely musical. Tubes sound great and are long lasting and to top it off the finish is superb.
Good performance for good price.
Hi. I am a professional musician in TURKEY. I have a recording music studio. I uses some preamps on my studio. Gold Mike is great preamp for guitar and overheads.
Pro studio use. Used on vocals, guitars and overheads.
Really great tube sounding, no muddiness as some other pres introduce. Although it's a hybrid pre (solid state and tube), it really has a nice sound. The Flair option is a really cool one, getting a smooth brightness and presence to make the instrument come out in the mix.
VU meter's a little small but looks cool. The design of the pre is really cool if you dig some vintage and analog hardware.
Tested with SM 57, Sontronics STC-1, Schoeps MK, AKG P220. Tested on a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20.
The only downside is that it came in a box with little protection.
Bottom line, I like a lot this preamp.
Very good Value
Have this for ages and will never sell it.
I have since bought pre amps by GML and focusrite but I still love and use this on several sources. Highly recommended.
Great Preamp for this price
I use pre73, bluetube, SP-vtb1, art pro mpa vs. before Goldmike. SPL has a great sound like hi-end pres when we compare it with other pres at this price (more noiseless, more open and detail sound, more transparent.). It has a hybrid form and it's tube warmth; like a "taste". The warmth isn't very pronounced, sound is very clear like a avalon-great river solid pres :) I like its sound with my JZ v11, nt5-MP (for inst.) and sE z3300a (for vocals). Thanks for everything...
A mixed bag
Feature-wise, and price-wise this preamp is a very good deal. The starved plate design actually does something interesting, although I must say that it doesn't work well for all sources. I like it on vocals and anything without strong transients. It is pecussion and guitars that I think don't sound so excellent through this preamp as the starved-tube stage colors the sound quite a bit and introduces subtle peaks and notches in the sound and also a subtle phasing effect. The flair function is actually a genious thing. It is very useful on vocals, especially when recorded with dynamic mics. The metering is nice, also and the knobs feel very sturdy and have a nice resistance to them, so twisting them is very pleasurable. Cosmetically it also looks very nice.
Stunning value for money.
This Preamp is silky smooth, very low noise, very warm and is superb value for money. I've used preamps that cost 3 times what this does and the difference is minimal. Have used this loads on vocals, stereo keyboards, guitar, bass and more. Can't recommend it enough.
