Beautiful but...

Main employment of my new Squier bass will be home practicing and as backup instrument on stage and rehearsals.

I have been fascinated about the look of former Squier VM and now the new CV 70s natural finish models. Mine looks even better than on the pictures. Neck has beautiful grain, two-piece body parts match with each other perfectly.

Unfortunately I'm quite disappointed about the quality. Most noticeable shortage is the poor fretwork. The frets are uneven and without additional leveling work the string action has to be set quite high to avoid fret buzz. Unfortunately the beautiful binding has rough grinding wheel marks on it. Maybe some polishing helps. I am usually not picky about tuning machines but this time i am seriously considering to replace them because they move hard. The nut seems to be made of the cheapest plastic available. Luckily it's not hard to find replacement parts.

The sound of CV 70s J-bass was really nice surprise. Only thing to point out is that the 70s pickup spacing misses roundness of fundamental tone. My intention is to use this bass mostly for slapping. Both pickups full or bridge pickup turned down a bit gives punchy and clear sound.
