Steinberg UR242 satisfied me!

i use the steinberg interface for live studio recording with a analogue mixer work easy and fine. good quality next to my mixer settings, even good sound with TD-3 bassliner and other eqiupments. Ive got a build in audio interface in the mixer but this steinberg interface its quik and handy for recording to pc/laptop and for directly use. For my studio situation a good outcome.

Great tool!

One of the few small audio interfaces (or the only one actually?) with built in reverbs and effects. Literally can go on stage without a mixer, just an iPad and this thing for small gigs is perfect. No latency, good quality pre-amps, totally adequate, noise ratio is worse than the newest ones, but it's perfect for live and even recording even in 2021. Very sturdy!

Gorgeous sound card for your money. In my opinion the best of the price order. High-quality preamps + DSP processor that allows you to record your vocals or guitar with reverb, compression, equalizer and different types of distortion. So far from this price range, this sound card is the best to date

Steinberg UR242

Great Interface that does everything a bedroom musician needs. Keep in mind 2 of the inputs are line inputs, so you'll need some processing in your DAW to have them operate as the main 2 in the front of the unit.

But honestly, all 90% of people using this interface will use is the first two line inputs which are phenomenal. The gain controls can bring a lot of lesser mics to life, phantom power is great, separate headphone and speaker out volume controls are awesome as well. 24bit/192kHz is way the hell more than you'll ever need.

Excellent sound, versatility, high-quality Assembly

It is convenient to have independent volume controls for headphones and speakers. Easy to record electric guitars-turn on the hi-Z input and record. Along with the map is a licensed Cubase AI.

Cons: I can't think of any so none

In my opinion, it's definitely worth a buy.

Great audio interface

I am using it now for 5 years and still works perfect. The recorded sounds are awesome, sometimes i record in mono, sometimes stereo. Its very versitile and have more than enough inputs. Latency is normal and works like charm. Doesnt change the sound, very natural and very good for acoustic guitar. I would recommend it to anyone for home use.

built like a tank

I use this interface to practice and improve my music editing skills and it does the job very well, the included software makes sure every penny you spend on this product will worth it. also you get a great discount if you'd like to upgrade your software to Cubase 10 Elements. This device futures DSP which I couldn't find at any other usb interface at this price range. it can be very useful when you're using any software that requires good amount of cpu and memory work because this feature lets the usb interface to process many things before even sending signals to your computer which also lets latency free monitoring. build is very nice, you can tell that this thing can endure hard conditions as soon as you take one in your hands.

It does the job very well. I own a previous model of Steinberg (the C1) and i think it has the best price per value .

Pros:

Very practical since you can use any midi controller with it and for me its very useful when hooking a synth's sequencer with it.

4 inputs

comes with cubase AI which does the job for starters.

sturdy metal encase.

nice DACs.

Cons:

Not really a con , but i use it with a pair of HS7s and to me it doesn't seem to have a good gain on the output.

Good product

I bought this because it, as it name, have 4 analog inputs (2 mic pre) and 2 outputs. The mic pre are decent, driver is stable(on a mac with logic pro), latency not too bad, and low noise. I love the knobs on the front that allows me to control volume/gain of both mic pre, main out and headphone out separately.

Build is like a tank, cool and strong aluminium casing. It is inexpensive and certainly does a good job for what I've paid for.

Great

Four inputs, it's a great thing of this device, it's a pity none of them is for stereo jacks

It works perfectly

I am currently using it with Korg Minilogue synthesizer for recording purposes. It was really easy to setup. The build quality is great, it feels sturdy. It comes with Cubase AI software sequencer which is a plus.

Professional interface in small box

I needed interface to replace my old M-Audio FastTrack mk2.

I was looking for something with Hi-Z input, MIDI in-out, phantom power & Line-in to get signal from my mixer to PC.

Steinberg UR242 was the best offer at that moment + it was new.

I bought it and it became heart of my home studio setup.

Build quality is amazing - built like a tank. Knobs, buttons, ports - everything is well-built.

Latency is minimal, inputs are not noisy. Cool built-in effects & monitoring possibilities.

I have recording guitars, synths, vocals - everything sounds like it should sound.

First thing that is not that great - Hi-Z input. I would advice to get DI-BOX for guitar recording, because native Hi-Z input sounds muddy every time on any guitar.

Second thing - headphone output is not independent. It has same signal that goes to speakers, but with separate volume knob. If you are DJ - this is not what you need, there is no possibility to cue something in headphones.

Coolest thing - you don't need computer to run it. It has its own DSP processor inside & it could be configured once using software & used like independent mixer without computer.

Best interface at this price range

I like the pres on this better than on the focusrite scarlet series.

Need to be careful with plugging in the power, and I'd recommend a power conditioner - as it'll pick up interference through the wall wart if you don't have clean power. Probably not an issue for most people, but I noticed this coming from a USB powered unit to this. Since plugging it into a conditioner I've had no issues.

Love the line inputs, makes plugging in my modular quick and easy, without having to remove my mics.

The DSP is particularly useful, and often not found in units at this price range.

The only thing this leaves me wanting is some sort of level indication, other than just a peaking led. But at this price range you don't really see that on any units.

Really like this interface, and it even comes bundled with Cubase AI!

for me the best audio interface w/4 inputs

i have alsis io2 express but i needed more inputs and wasn't happy with the latency performance

so I've been making choice between focusrite scarlett 6i6 and steinberg ur242.

I went with scarlett as it has decent reviews for its audio quality. but after a day of testing i was totally upset. a lot of buzz and noise probably caused by the ground loops or whatever. once I have connected active monitors the noise level coming from the input was unacceptable.

so i sent it back and took ur242. additionally i have read a lots of similar complaints regarding the noise.

the ur242 is something completelly different. the D/A has very very nice sound and is totally clean. i had tried the inputs and the were no issues with the noise or ground loop. i'm using the same cables. latency is awesome and audio quality as well. fully reccommended over scarlett anytime! and the price is lower too :) on top of that you'll get the latest cubase AI which is also nice piece of software.

update:

after I have post this review I have realized that this box has a VERY nice feature. Yes, it has DSP which is not new to me. You may add a reverb and one of the 4 guitar amp models (each one can be tweaked) per channel. That was something I ignored that and did not intent to use as I have everything in my Cubase. BUT - you can use the preset even your computer is shut down. That's really awesome if just want to quicly grab and play guitar without making noise during the night hours using a proper guitar amp. just power the UR242, plug the guitar in, put headphones on, or turn on monitors. I really love that feature. The amps do not sound awesome, especially on higher gain, but cleans and crunch is just ... ok for some practicing.
