Didn't meet my needs

Too much self noise combined with low output makes this too hissy for quiet scenes or voice. I tried it with two voice recorders, a camcorder and mixer. A great shame as it is well made.

Why I gave it 4 Stars

Pros:Great build. All metal body. Optional Battery power (aa x 1). High output and very clear natural sound. My main use is for Foley / ambience and field recording. Tests I've done to date were very satisfactory. The mic could easily work as dialogue in film in my opinion.

Cons:(Not many really) Wind shield is useless, would have liked padded case as other companies supply, Best used on stand or blimp as it is prone to handling noise. -10 or -20 db pad would be nice. I would strongly recommend this stereo mic.

EXELENT PRICE VS QUALITY!

Surprisingy good

Given the fact that this microphone is so cheap, the build quality and sound quality is stunning. It is very well made, and feels solid. Plugged into my Zoom F4 field recorder it performs extremely well. Good stereo imaging, low self-noise, and an uncoloured and natural sound quality. Really impossible to fault at this price. The included cable is an added benefit as it is a good length and appears to be of good quality.

Powerful Contender for Stereo Microphones

I originally purchased this for use as an overhead location-audio source for film work, however it's such a good mic it's seeping into my other work!

Build-wise, it's the same as any other Superlux microphone - built like a tank, and then some. It feels a lot more expensive than it actually is, and that's not a bad thing, as it can take the battering that the outside elements give it. The sound quality is very clear and without distortion, even at the higher SPLs.

It comes with a clip, a wind cover, and a 5 pin XLR to 2 x 3 pin XLR cable. I'd reccommend doing what I did and getting a seperate shock mount (due to the slim body it fits the t.bone SSM 4 very well), and invest in a better wind sheild - I used my BOYA Furry windscreen from my Tascam DR-40 with it no problems. I cannot vouch for the cable quality as I used my own custom cables due to required length.

Overall, the E523/D is what I've come to expect from Superlux microphones - good quality sound at an affordable price, and built like a tank. Worth every penny.

Good microphone for live or ambiance recordings!

I have bought this microphone - which comes with a 5 m cable, a clamp and a wind -shield - for recording live concerts, nature sounds and interviews. The quality is good, quite better than most smartphone microphones and it's stereo. It also offeres a low cut switch for reducing ambience noise.

There are two cable end with xlr male connection, so you can directly plug it in an audio interface or a mixing desk. A

If you want to use it without phantom power from an external device you have to put in batteries.

Connected to an y-shaped adapter cable you can even use it as a stereo mic with a camera oder smartphone.

I recorded teh jubille concert of a gospel choir recently and I was stunned about the sound quality.

Don't get me wrong:

of course you can't compare this microphone to hi end equipment but it delivers a sufficient good stereo sound quality at a budget price.

I can really recommend this!

Good and sensitive microphone for layman use

Sensitivity and dynamicity are the good qualities of this instrument. I make sound recordings of the nature undertone, without any reflector, and also wery loud traffic voices. My aim is to make recording corresponding to the human ear. The final result is perfect. Many very expensive microphone may operate better if the listener too is experienced professional, but I do'nt hear the dfference. The constitution is long-lasting. The instrument is quite heavy. There is not battery-off switch, but the filter switch can make the lapse to switch off the microphone, which it do not.
