Superlux Pra 218A Reviews
very good for the price
i used it to record some snare drum tracks, it has a very interesting "live" sound , volume is good and feels solid.
good catch for the bucks!
Great little mic!
I use this for harmonica. Has a great sound, but can let in a little unwanted noise. Overall would recommend as a good harmonica microphone!
Great performance for the price
We use five of these mics along with five PRA D1's to teach a Music Technology course in a high school.
Pros - Very well built, sturdy & a good weight. Nice sound quality & clarity for instruments or vocals. Easy for young students to use.
Cons - Doesn't come in a hard case like the PRA D1's do.
Underrated dynamic mic
This mic simply exceeds all expectations for its price. For toms, kick, cabs and even vocals with some eq you can really make it work. Not the best for sure, but don't let the price fool you on this one, it gives you a lot more than you pay for.
Have used it for toms with quite pleasing results and on the kick as well, though found it to be lacking a bit of the precision thump you wish for in a tight kick sound, but this can be assisted by adding a sub-kick or just some eq. For bass cabs works just fine too and I'd assume for guitar cab as well for that boomy lower end sound. I think for wide male vocals at least you can do a lot worse than this mic as well.
All around a great workhorse/backup to have around. You can't beat this value for money!
mic review
I use this for harmonica with a rubber tube round it to stop unwanted noise. it works a treat
Smooth little fella...
After running a test where i compared this and several other microphones for recording a guitar cab (Audix i5, Co4, ribbons, condensers) - i had to listen carefully if this was not the SM57... It has the same flavour, but with extended bass and less air in the highs (ref. frequency response).
Now it wouldn't be fair to say it blows a 57 out of the water, on the whole, it sounds "more dull" than a 57 on a guitar cab. But in combination with another mic (a condenser for example) it gives a very interesting extra to my ears.
I have yet to try it on drums and harmonica (its design seems perfect for that) but i can already say it is not leaving...
Good for Bass Drum
Good mic for the cheap cost. Not actually used on Snare yet, only bass drum.
My only concern is that it's listed as a Snare drum mic here, and yet on the instruction manual it lists it as the Bass drum mic in the Superlux Pra range.
Regardless, good dynamic mic.
Nice price
A fair price for good quality.
Pra 218A
Good microphone for toms & snare . metal body . Good sensitivity , & frequency response . It's good to use for electric guitar amp , or brass instruments too . It has a little bit resonance on 167 hz , but to apply narrow notch filter for that frequency , & everything sounds good. I'll buy more . Thank You very much .
Workhorse Mic
Used this for micing up a rack tom and also on the bottom of a snare. Has a good sound for the price and is well built.
Also used for tracking guide vocals while the band was recording and does the trick without any bells and whistles.

I bought this for using with drums and other percussion, but after trying it against my other mikes I mainly used it for harmonica! It works well with drums, but gives me that certain sound you want with a harmonica - a bit raw and moody best describes it I think. I've left the mike stand fitting on at the moment, as it does not get in the way, but if needed it can be removed as its screwed on. Its very robust and is metal rather than plastic, which I thought it might be. Lives in my harp case now.
Great mic for price
Bought this mic mainly for recording guitar, and was really impressed by the sound quality and SPL given the price.
I also used it to mic up percussion (shakers and tambourine) in a live gig setting and it worked very well!
Comes with a soft bag as well. Really happy given the cheap price.
