Good mic

Good mic for value. I use it for talk back.

Does a job

At times, the microphone can sound a bit dull with my voice. It isn’t a patch on my Sennheiser 935 or my TC Helicon mic, but it costs a lot less too.

I do sound tech work from time to time and I don’t want to give people my expensive personal microphones. I’ve had no complaints when they’ve used the PRA D1 and most people seem to find the sound similar to a Shure SM58.

I would 100% recommend this microphone as it is great value for money. I can’t imagine there is anything as good for the same price.

Backing Vocals Mic

This is a decent and super durable mic for vocals. Works OK and is usable in reheasersal/stage/recording a demo. I had a look inside, and I bet if you throw it down a few times it will be just fine. It will be great for usual applications. High volume or for a lead singer, rather not.

It's not even close to famous mics of a higher caliber, so don't expect too much. The sound is useable, but needs some minor processing to be acceptable. I wouldn't be surprised if there is variation in the sound from piece to piece though.

A weakness of this mic is that the volume output will be dramatically different with the smallest changes in distance when using the mic at typical distance for vocals. It's a typcial problem of cheaper dynamic mics. Good dynamic mics handle that way better.

Rejection of sound outside the pattern and at distance works fairly good. In a rock band setting it will be a challenge to avoid feedback getting a useable volume over monitoring.

Robust microphone with powerful sound

I bought the Superlux PRA D1 mike as my first vocal mike in a homerecording setup.

It comes nicely packed in a plastic case and even a mic clamp is included.

First impression: it seems quite well made and is very heavy. The microphone capsule is unscrewable, which is nice for cleaning purposes etc.

I tried it in different recording situations (Growl, Hiphop, Spoken Word) an I can say that this microphone basically does a good job. The only downfall whith this microphone is an overemphasizing of high mids (in the 3-4 khz range), which is typical for mikes in this price category. A good amount of equalization is necessary, to give a good ?clean studio sound? - at least whith my low and raspy voice.

As the body of the PRA D1 seems not so well insulated, the mike is a bit susceptible to impact noise. It is s good idea to use a mic stand.

Conclusion:

Good first microphone, very robust, good price/performance ratio, cheap and reliable backup mike for rehearsal situations. It is advisable to use at least a decent mike preamp (which many even of the cheaper recording-soundcards nowadays have) for best results.

nice for the price

Wanted a dynamic vocal Mic as a back up for my gig bag. The band plays pubs, clubs and small venues. Didnt want to pay a fortune for a back up but needed something which was reliable in a live setting. Reviews were good for this. Have bought superlux stuff before so gave it a try. Good quality Mic which comes in case with Mic holder. Reasonable dynamic range pick up and clear through the pa with no noticeable background interference. Holds its own as a live vocal Mic with some of its more expensive competitors. As a back up, it's worth a buy.

Superlux PRA D1 mic

I needed a back up mic in case I had problems with my TBone cordless. I needed one with NO On/Off button as that just causes problems, especially when a member of the public is using it...they fiddle!

Also I needed a quality mic for my guitar combo so I could put the signal through a desk.

This mic, for the price is really, really good! Heavy, robust and great sound. I am considering buying a few more as I would have no worries about hiring them out for the public to use as karaoke mics, or to bands wanting to mic up the drums/guitars.

All in all a great all round quality mic and at a very good price.

A sturdy functional budget mic

I purchased this as a rehearsal mic; & yet found myself using at live gigs for lead vocals & harmonica. Sturdy, responsive & well made, this is a perfectly competent mic at a very low price. Highly recommended!
