Superlux S241 Reviews
On a budjet ?
If your on a budget and you need a good tool ..stop looking
I bought this for a little voice over
This seems to be quite nice and as directional as i hoped, sometimes building a home studio doesn't allow the perfect audio but this seems to do the trick, i found large Diaphragm mics too sensitive to ambient noises this is a little better and quiet enough for my use
Way better than expected
when I bought these mics I wasn't expecting much, I just needed something to work with and I was short on cash. Boy was I surprised by the quality used them for everything from drums to guitar to voice and they never let me down. Used them inside and outside they're sturdy and reliable.
if you're on a budget these are a great buy
very good
very good for the price, sounds like a much more expensive microphone
great
Get one, get two!!! you won't be disappointed.
Nice inexpensive mic
To be realistic, s241 by sound quality is not a neumann class microphone, but it realy sounds like a more expensive mic. Sound is full and quite detailed, Goes very good for plucked string instruments, drums and even for vocals. Recommended for those who looks for a very inexpensive but very decent quality mic.
Impressed
Looking for a nice condenser microphone but still want to have a nickel in your wallet? This is it.
It comes with a plastic case and other accessories...
The build quality of the mic is really good , it has a dB switch and it sounds awesome.
It can be a little bright sounding , meaning it has probably a easier response to high frequencies but it's barely noticable.
I only tested this mic as a overhead on drums , nothing else.
As a overhead I can't complain . it's good.
Good all around microphone
I use Superlux S241 as all-around mic for video production for couple of month.
It`s sensitivity is good enough to record detail ambience.
Bulid in attenuator helps to avoid clipping on rock concerts etc.
Thanks to massive brass made body the handling noise is low, which gives
possibility to use this mic as handheld interview microphone.
Integrated high-pass filter reduses the unnesessary low-end tones
(under the human voice), which is good for interview.
Mic itsself, shock mount, pop-filter and wind shield are nicely paked in foam
padded small plastic case.
The noise floor (at least in my very case) is not that low. I`ve made some "silent" tests
of S241 vs my two hyper cardioid Oktavas MK-012. The difference is notisable. Therefore I woudn`t use this mic for quiet night soundscapes. As for average situations it is absolutely OK.
High end (around 10 kHz) is bit too hot, (easy to fix in post if needed).
- Will I continue to use S241 for videoproduction?
- Sure.
- Will I use one as dialogue mic for movie?
- No.
- You can not afforde Soeps, DPA and other big brothers? Or, you`d like
to have good mic for very low price?
- Go for it, you`ll have no regreds.
Excellent value
This was my first proper mic and I'm very impressed with the sound. Excellent VFM.
Value for money
After some reviewing, I basically chose this condenser mic to provide additional mid range complimentary support to the tone of my church choir.
The mic by itself produces a rather thin sound, something that I had not expected. Tweaking at the console does not help much as it tends to feed back when the volume is increased beyond the half way mark.
This probably is more suited for sound proofed environment rather that open church choir environment.
However, with some deft tweaking it does serve the purpose to a certain extent and given the fact that it is a budget product it may not be justifiable to expect anything more.
Great Value Condenser Microphone
I've used this microphone now in a number of situations - mainly for recording and it is really very good value and does a very reasonable job for not a lot of money. It would be suitable for drum overheads, acoustic guitar and, in fact, most acoustic instruments, has a pretty good response and low self-noise.
Good Microphone
I bought a pair of these mice and I have used them as drum overheads, on vocals and as ambient mics. They work well on drums and I was suprised how much the low end of the toms came through while still maintaining the highs. Pop shield is a bit flimsy however..
Handy mic for such little money
Great little mic for the price, very happy with this product. sound quality is excellent, crisp and clear exactly what you expect from a condenser. Build quality is also very good and sturdy
S241 - good surprise
Very good mic, with gain better than Oktava MK012 (cardiod capsule), It has lome frequency lift about 6-8 kHz, useful on dull instrument (classical guitar).Sound is much better than my Behringer c-2 condenser mic. You also get useful suspension for use on stage, and pop filter. I would buy another one to have a pair for stereo recording. I also have Oktava, EV, Shure mic.
Condenser on a budget
I don't use this condenser very often but when I do find occasion to do so, it really comes into its own.
The first time I ever used it was in an old Carmelite chapel with very high ceilings and stone walls and floors. Naturally this was a technical nightmare as it was just ripe for feedback and ringing echoes. However, I needed to capture a group of female voices and no chance to individually mic them up as I perhaps would have preferred. My only other choice with my limited gear was this condenser but I wasn't very hopeful of good results. Actually it picked up the voices wonderfully and cleanly and really suited the female choral voice. I was able to 'surf' the echoes and actually create an effect in the room that made it sound like there was a much bigger group singing. This gave me confidence to use it more often.
Second use was in a youth worship event where I had a very new singer; perfectly good voice but completely untrained in microphone technique and posture. So instead, to allow her the freedom to just sing, I set her up with this instead. Again, picked her up with no problem.
I think my only complaint is fitting the pop shield holder onto the mic - it seems to clash somewhat with the shockmount making it quite difficult to attach.
The low cut and attenuator switches are very useful for minimising microphone stand handling noise and general ambient noise in the room.
great
Want a cheap and rugged mike for live use? This is just the job, very versatile.
