clean, wide stereo sound

I am in love with this microphone! I've been using it for 3 years for recording music school performances, including orchestras and ensembles. It has a wonderful, clean sound, and it works for all sorts of instruments from classical guitar, piano, violin to woodwinds, brass, accordions and percussion. It mixes well with spot microphones and it offers a very wide stereo image, perfect for capturing orchestras and ensembles. There is very little noise and they can handle really high SPL (brass orchestra or percussion ensembles). I would recommend it 10/10.

Simply great!

Brilliant little discovery with perfect image. Amazing on grand piano. Was a bit reluctant to buy but now ordering another one for the studio.

Great value for the money!

I often use this mic for recording ambience, and I've never had any trouble in fairly humid environments.

It's nice to use this one mic instead of setting up 2 cardioid mics with an ORTF bracket.

Definitely recommended!

Positive surprise!

I ordered this mic as for simple curiosity, to record authentic latin-american instruments from Bolivia and Peru. Ayllu group plays authentic music from Ands..and what surprise this was. Full collection of instruments from bass drum (bombo) all the way to highly pitched kenas and charango this microphone covered without any issue whatsoever! Stereo definition from this ORTF setup was clearly presenteded with realistic and clear stereo image with very low self-noise.Sound is much more controlled - no over-brightness (in comparison with all popular Rode NT's).

Small remark goes to bass, namely the "deepness" of bass freq. but for this price something that can easily be forgiven...Manufactured in metal housing, very solid made, with included clip/holder.Be smart and order additional Y-type cable 'cause included cable in package is to short if you intend to use this microphone on higher positions.

Conclusion: buy now, this is excellent addition to your collection of microphones that can give you great results for studio and live recordings.

Super value

I bought this as a quick, reliable solution for recording quiet acoustic instruments with limited dynamics (lute and viola da gamba mostly), and it performs very well; I have also used it to fill out other group recordings to good effect. The quality is very good, and the set up is obviously very quick!

If you can afford the Schoeps, go with that, but if you need a cheaper alternative, you can't go wrong here.

My only criticism would be that the cable is tiny, but that is easily overcome.

A real "find"

Bought a couple of these. Sound is balanced and clean, and an easy setup: instant ORTF. Comes in a plastic case with a clip/holder (nothing sophisticated, but functional), a couple of foam windshields & a breakout cable (a single 5 pin to two standard XLRs). I'm using these as part of a surround recording setup and I'm planning two more to add "height". There are definitely better, more expensive mics available, but these are punching well above their weight for the price.

Very inexpensive for how it sounds.

Amazing!

I?m using this mainly for orchestra miking, choir, piano and overheads.

Construction quality is unbelievable at this price range. I now have 3 units!

The sound of this mic is comparable to some very, very expensive mics I own...

I also bought some other Superlux models and I?m really happy with all of them!

Highly recommended!

Good value

This is a pretty good and shameless clone of the schoeps ORTF mic. The sound is very good!

The included 5pin -> dual 3pin connector that is needed is of lesser quality, the cable is quite stiff so it will transmit alot of handling noise if you use the mic in a suspension mic holder. You probably want to get a replacement with softer silicone insulation cable or 'diy' something if you use it on a handheld stand with a suspended holder.. The cable is extra stiff in cold weather!

I have also heard the odd pop or hiss when used in a humid envoirenment, nothing extreme tho.

Very good stereo mic

I use this mic through an M-Audio AudioBuddy microphone amplifier, through a pedalboard for stereo effects and into a Scarlett 2i2 interface.

The clarity is overwhelming, to the point that listening to room-recorded sounds through headphones renders the recording indistinguishable from real time sounds.

The two microphones are positioned to record sound like a human would hear, so this gives a good and realistic stereophonic sonority.

Pros:

+ Very good recording clarity

+ Can "hear" tiny sounds with some microphone amplification

+ The stereo sound is very realistic due to the positioning of the microphones

Cons:

- The stock cable is too short

Overall, a good device with good quality and I am very happy with the Superlux!

Big mic for the small money

Best mic in my collection (Sennheiser, Shure, Oktava, AKG,EV), i use it for the choir reinforcing, stereo recordings and Superlux never let me down.Mic was on the test in our national radio and the guys in the mobile track were suprised with the sound, Superlux connected to their SSL mixing desk was wonderful as drums overhead. Here is one recording from my PA recorded on the street with this great stereo mic: https://soundcloud.com/radio-jaska/zbor-javor-boze-cuvaj-hrvatsku-18-11-2015-stross

Fantastic Value ORTF microphone

This is a really good quality microphone. I've used it in serious recording sessions and it does a great job. Excellent sound quality and excellent stereo imaging. It looks quite similar to another much more expensive make of microphone - and as far as I can tell (and confirmed from various internet sources) its very close in quality to much higher priced microphones of similar design. Highly recommended and very well built.

Excellent stereo set

I got some excellent results from this stereo microphone. I used it both as drum overheads, and also as a room mike to capture more of the distant and ambient sound. It performed exceedingly well in both roles, giving a great and very appealing ORTF stereo image. The sound was well balanced, capturing a lot of the detail of the drum kit. There was a slight emphasis in the treble range, which worked well on my cymbals and highlighted their articulation. I was really impressed with the results.

Having a preset ORTF setup is very convenient. It makes it really easy to capture a good quality stereo image. I enjoyed experimenting with the placement, varying the distance and height from the source I was recording to capture various sound stages.

It is well constructed and comes complete with a case, XLR cable adapter and two windshield. I got a small amount of noise from one the channels when I first unboxed it, but that disappeared after a day of use or so. I haven't experienced any problems since.

A great small stereo mike that exceeded my expectations. It provides great ORTF results at a very affordable price.

Nice microphone for all stereo recordings!

First I hoped, that you could have turned the capsules in the end of the shaft, but after using the microphone in the first recording (choir) I realized, that the factory set angel is perfect and doesn't need any own configurations. Have been using this microphone to record and amplify choirs, classical orchestras, theater-plays and even acoustic guitar. The microphone has never let me down! Really low noise level with a really wide dynamic range! Rubber-shockmounted mic clip is also doing it's thing and working well!

Remarkable stereo mic

I bought this to see if it was a worthwhile improvement on the 2 x Oktava MK012 condenser mics that had been using for choral recording. I'm happy to advise that it is and has all the open, airy definition of the Oktavas but is just so much more convenient to set up and use.

The only problem I have experienced is that once I had a "frying" sort of noise from one fo the capsules, when I first set the mic up. This disappeared after 30 minutes or so, and I've put it down to dampness in the capsule perhaps after it'd been in storage for a while. I now keep it in a sealed container with a bag of silica gel (dessicant) to keep it dry, and have had no further problems.

It absolute quality terms it's probably some way short of the Shoeps that has obviously inspired it, but for less than a tenth of the price, you're certainly getting more than a tenth of the mic. Highly recommended.
