Ibanez PNB14E-OPN Acoustic Bass

Ibanez PNB14E-OPN Acoustic Bass

Started playing bass about a year ago but being quite a small person, I always struggled with a full size bass. At an open mic one evening, I played one of these and I knew straight away that I had to have one. Not that loud acoustically (although OK for a quite jam) but when plugged in, volume and tone are both excellent! It is a very tactile and playable instrument and the build quality is superb, far exceeding expectations for the bargain price, It even has an on-board tuner! I am really please with this bass

Guild B-140E Nat Westerly

Having been looking for an acoustic basss for a long while, I bought this guitar untried via the internet based on the reviews. I should say I am primarily an acoustic guitar player, not a bassist, although I do own an electric bass. When it arrived I have to say I was blown away by how good it is - and particularly for the price. I have tried other solid wood top / sides basses, at 3x the price I paid for this guitar, and the Guild is every bit as good. Build quality is excellent - it really does look well made, from the detail around the sound hole, the headstock, neck, frets… all 1st class. The sound is a clear acoustic bass tone. I may change the strings to black nylon wound and I reckon they would be pretty amazing on this guitar (probably a double bass type sound). The...

Taylor GS Mini-e Koa Bass

Taylor GS Mini-e Koa Bass

As a guitarist for about forty years, I felt the desire to enjoy the deep sound of the bass and especially the double bass without great stretches of the fingers and joints, combined with a huge musical instrument which is difficult to carry/transport. Taylor company created the GS mini-e series which is a super shortscale acoustic bass in parlor guitar size. It wears special strings that one needs to get used to. So there is a limit since you can not experiment as with a conventional acoustic or electric bass changing brands, types and different materials of strings. But this is the only compromise you have to make. This instrument produces a great sound that resembles upright bass, is extremely comfortable to play and easily portable. I chose the version with koa wood because in various...

Fender Kingman Bass SEB WN

I play in an acoustic 'classic rock' band and wanted an upgrade to my original little Ibanez bass. As soon as I saw this new version the Fender Kingman, with the iconic headstock and a beautiful tobacco-burst finish, I knew this would be the one. When it arrived I wasn't disappointed - a beautiful, quality build & finish and, considering this is the best and most expensive acoustic bass that Fender make, I think it's incredible value for money. The body feels a little bigger and wider than the Ibanez, but you quickly get used to it and find a comfortable way to hold and play it. And my goodness is that Jazz-style short scale neck wonderful, just perfect. I'd been converted to playing flat wound strings on my electric bass already and knew at the time of...

Cordoba Mini II Bass EB-E

Cordoba Mini II Bass EB-E

This bass is class, I looked around for a decent one that was short scale as I didn't want something too big. I wanted one I could play with while watching tv or to pick up when I have a few minutes without having to go plug in an electric bass and amp, but this is an electro acoustic so from time to time I plug it in also. It is beautifully made and sounds and plays brilliantly. My electric bass is gathering dust hanging on the wall, I'm sure I will use it again in the future but for the moment this Cordoba mini is too much fun to put down and the more time an instrument spends in hand, the faster the progress.. I highly recommend it.

Harley Benton B-30BK Acoustic Bass Series

I bought this Bass in 2005 initially so i could reherse material at home easily without upsetting the wife by dragging an amp into the lounge. More recently i've been doing some work with an accoustic guitarist so have played a few shows with this beast and to be honest it's more than up to the challenge. It looks great with a high gloss black finish edged in cream and has the look and feel of a much bigger budget bass. The neck is quite chunky but feels good and the action suprisingly low. The EQ, presence and volume sliders do the job. A 9v battery slides in behind the electrics which has a red battery low LED but to be fair if you use a good quality battery it won't need changing much. When I work live with the acoustic bass it goes straight into the PA via a Behringer BDI 21...

I got this HB acoustic bass to practice in the Living Room without having to have amps cluttering my living space. It's well built, and good looking. Needed minor setup. I was not crazy about the strings that came with it...a little too "twangy", which is common with an acoustic bass. After talking with a musician at a local bar gig who was playing an acoustic bass...he said he had the same issue with his expensive acoustic bass and replaced the strings with nylon tape-wound strings. They are black, look cool and sound much better. The wood design pieces glued on could use some minor sanding or oiling. I like this bass...it's a great practice tool for me (I'm a beginner...my wife is the musician) and we also have the matching round back HB classical nylon string guitar, and...

Harley Benton B-25M Acoustic Bass

I bought this item for personal use, for my personal instrument collection and just to play at home for fun, as i am not a professional bass player (i play other instruments professionally but i like bass). I can say that i didn't expect this bass to be so good as much as it is! Clear sound, very good strings, wonderful setup, very nice materials. Sound is so good and clear if you connect to a PA system using the piezo but is also perfect with it's physical sound. It has an active pickup system with 4-band EQ and tuner, which is very very functional and very high quality. Another good think this bass has, is that you can connect it with an xlr cable to your soundsystem, so you reduce to 0 noise that ypu may have with a simple jack cable. It's body is a bit smaller than a jumbo bass so...

Let me preface this by saying I'm not very experienced in evaluating bass guitars, let alone acoustic ones, so caveat emptor, ymmv etc. I'm mainly a guitar player. Been playing on and off for the last 20 years or so. Strictly recreational. This plays like a dream! I don't know if I was lucky, but this is the easiest playing bass I've ever tried. Compared to my Squier Precision it feels like playing a guitar! I just took it out of the box and tuned it, and I can't see how I could possibly make any more adjustments. It's just perfect. One thing that surprised me is that the top is completely unfinished. No laquer/varnish/oil. No complaints here, though. -The built-in tuner is a bit coarse. It works ok, though, and its better than no tuner at all, I guess :) Not tested: The built-in pickups.

I bought this bass with the intention of doing some folkier stuff with my band and have been really pleased with it. The sound is nice and warm and it is a good volume for an acoustic bass when not plugged in. The amplified sound is also good and the fishman tuner and equaliser works well. I was torn between the natural finish and the black gloss but am happy with my decision. The finish on my instrument is really good. This instrument is now the one I am most likely to pick up when I have a few spare minutes to practice. Although it has a big body, it is still comfortable to play and although the nect is slightly chunkier than my electric basses, not enough to put you off. An instrument that I am really pleased with an play every day.
