Excellent sound and features but not built for heavy duty usage

This stomp for bass is excellent, probably unmatched for the price, in terms of features and audio processing quality. However, as has been my experience with a lot of Zoom products I've used, the construction, although pretty and well finished, is not very robust. This is perfectly ok if you intend to use this at home or in a controlled studio environment by a limited number of careful users, but I suspect the pedal will not last long in a life of stage performance with energetic players stomping on it.

Good enough for live/stage use, convenient form factor

So far have used this in a couple of rehearsals and one live gig. When playing at home alone, I always hear a little trebly digital distortion around the low E note (no effects engaged), even if I lower the input signal (this does not happen with B1on), but was never able to notice this at high volume levels when playing with others. So I think not good for recording, but for gigging completely fine. Very good when you consider the form factor and convenience.

It's a nice device, but very limited.

With this multi-effect pedal I realized that it is MUCH more practical to work with vst plugins, giving you thousands of other possibilities and more easily. The pedal is good, but nowadays, with all the VST options we have, this is a bad option because you are creatively limited: the design doesn't give up, it doesn't inspire the user enough to create interesting sounds. You will lose your money just like I did.

Fantastic piece of equipment

kudos to the Zoom team for putting together the essentials for bass tone in such a compact yet hardy piece of equipment. I was very skeptical at first even after reading all the positive reviews and within a week a of using it i'm hardcore fan.

Given the compact nature requires some time to figure out all the functions and full potential and once that's figured out its smooth sailing. Got some really amazing preset tones and lots of space for new ones. Quality of tones and amp simulations are very much close to actual pedals and the differences between tones are clearly audible. Special mention about the envelope filters which are spot on. For me all i need to add some color to my bass tone is here and I really dont think i will be buying any other equipment. Battery lasted for a bit longer than a full gig but no worries. Only warning is to first go through the settings and disable auto saving edits to prevent any accidental changes which may happen on the preset tones.

So many stuff in one little pedal! It is amazing what you can do. It should have more slots like the equivalents for the guitar, but still it is an amazing Bass Multi Effect pedal.

Great little pedal

What a great little pedal, easily the best all in one pedal for the money.

I got this pedal as a first pedal as I didn?t really know what sort of pedals I wanted to spend money on so I decided to go for a cheap multi effect then workout what sound I wanted and liked and then spend some money on some dedicated effect pedals.

This has defiantly sufficed. It has so many different effects and amps you can really play around and have fun. And having the built in tuner is a real plus.

It?s worth saying that because it?s a multi effect pedal it doesn?t sound as good as a dedicated pedal or amp, but for the money you really can?t complain. I wouldn?t use it in a recording studio, but for little live gigs it would be fine.

Another thing to note is that the output from the pedal is line level not instrument level so just be careful where you?re plugging it in to.

The pedal controls take a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of them then you can quickly navigate the menus and get the sounds you want.

So who would this pedal be good for?

For a first pedal you can?t do better, it has such a great range of sounds for you to play with. Also if you need a big array of sounds but don?t have the room/don?t want to carry around a pedal board this would be a great option.

If you?re really into your sounds and want the best possible sounds you can get then this probably won?t cut it.

Eagerly awaited, revues good, the real thing even better. So much scope for creating your own sounds, and the facility to choose your desired patches and place them in order is really helpful. Does everythin you'd expect. Buy one.

Nice but with some limits

The overall sound it's really nice, there are a lot of stomps and the most famous preamps.

However i found that it's biggest limit it's the making of a personal sound list; especially if you need to change two or more sounds inside a song.

For sure you will appreciate it, if you put side by side with other fx in your pedalboard

Great for travelling light

If you don't want to take a whole pedalboard worth of gear with you, this is a great product. It fits nicely in my bass' hard case and I have it set up with a few of my favourite presets such as a chain of compressor/limiter and EQ. For live work I could see it as a bit of a fiddle to reliably and quickly switch between presets - there is a feature that allows you to do this, but you have to be looking down at the little LCD screen to check what's going on. The in-built tuner is perfectly OK, not a Boss TU-3, but OK. If you factor in the price, the form factor, the LCD screen, the battery life on a pair of AA batteries, the build quality (metal body) and the sound quality this is a winner, despite its inherent fiddly-ness. It would be totally awesome if it had a MIDI interface that could go to some foot switch board for selecting presets - then it would get 6 stars.

What a little gem!

Want to save some real estate on your pedal board? This is the pedal for you.

The sounds of the various effects are pretty spot on compared to the originals. Zoom have done an impressive job there. The pedal is built like a tank with its metal casing. The layout and controls are easy to navigate, even without the instructions. Just wish it had a DI direct out, and a drum machine like its bigger brother - B3.

Excellent multi effects

This little pedal is amazing.

Just think about what you get, it only needs a few effects to be useful to be well worth it. And it includes a great tuner too......a tuner pedal on its own can be half the cost of this pedal.

I have found it easy to use and to navigate the menus.

I've found the effects that can be created 'digitally' are great. So the bass synth and envelope filters are great. The fuzz type effects are good too. The Octaver effect and overdrive are not so great in my view.

The case is metal and it's very solid. It's been on my pedal board for a while now and never let me down. I'm more than happy to use this for gigging.

Highly recommend this pedal.

Flexible and very useful

I already have a Zoom B3, and had been rather tempted by this little unit. For my purposes, it's turned out to be very capable. I like Zoom's idea of not limiting the signal chain with these units, so you're not limited to a series of blocks each with a limited number of effects but instead you can put whatever you like wherever you like in the chain. I generally have chorus and an amp sim permanently on, and on some songs switch either an exciter or a pitch shifter in and out. It has a conveniently small footprint compared to the B3, although the B3 does gain on the flexibility front as you can switch any one of the three stompboxes on and off. You can also use a MIDI controller to change patches via the USB port, which is easier than bending down and twiddling the centre knob to do so. Sadly you can't edit the effects via the USB port, unlike the B3.

Good bit of kit

Got this as a more compact alternative to my Zoom B3 for rehearsals and gigs and it does the job really well.

As an added bonus over the B3 it can have 4 effects in a chain.

Tuner works really well.

Doesn't support the Zoom Edit & Share software, which is a shame as that makes it really easy to back up your favourite settings and trial those created by others quickly.

Also doesn't have the DI out that the B3 does - not an issue for me as I've got one on my amp.

Surprisingly easy to use given how much functionality they've crammed in to such a small package.

Perfect with a small limitation

Hi all, I bought this pedal in addition to my Zoom B3. It has almost all effect that are offered by the bigger brother. But it is in a smaller package. It features a stereo out that is very useable for the delays. But almost all other effects are mono. The tuner in this unit is as good as in the b3 and this means very good:) I compared it to the polytune and they are very compareable. It is a bit sad that the tuner can not be used while the tap tempo for the delays are active. And vice versa. This is the only complaint that I could find about this unit. The bypass is very clean. But I still advice a true bypass pedal. Not because of the bypass sound, more becuase of the page function of the zoom pedal. U can assign A,B,C,D ..and so on for any patch and switch between them with the footswitch. This is very usable if u can bypass or mute the pedal while switching. The effect in a whole are very good. I really like the copy of the bassdriver and the mutron, but also the delay and reverbs. Have fun with it!

This is a really good "magic box". I use it both as a part of my larger pedal board and also on its own when I don't have the need for the big board.

I am particularly fond of the octaves, the tubescreamer emulation and the q-tron/auto-wah effects. They work really well. Of course you can hear differences fron "the real deal" but that's only in an a/b-test and it really doesn't matter much in a live situation.

I also like the way I can easily make presets and just shift between those with a press on the pedal. It's really useful and I put my presets in the same order as the setlist. Just press and go whenever needed.

Swiss Army Knife of the Bass World

For the size, and the price, it's unbelievably good value. The range of industry standard sounds and effects you can get PLUS the option to layer them ( have up to three concurrent effects ) is very helpful. Easy to use, battery powered ( Although I would always recommend an external power supply or a high profile performance ) and stomp-selectable presets ( so you can switch between four different patches at the touch of a button ) robust and VERY portable makes it the swiss army knife of the bass effects world. at the price does not make sense not to have one. I particularly like the acoustic bass emulators, which help take the twanginess off my EUB enough to give the music that swing feel for a couple of bars. Well done Zoom. I did not think it could get better than the B3!
