AKG K-271 MKII Reviews
Loud!
In these you can play LOUD without them cracking up. Off course depending on the power of your headphone amp. A very nice feature is the way they cut out the sound when they're not on your head since then there won't be any phones lying around at full blast leaking into overdubs etc.
Soundwise they are a bit on the honky side for vocal recording but for drums they are perfect because of the serious isolation.
Not really to use for recording vocals because of a slight lack of high frequencies compared to the AKG 240's , for example but when you need volume they's da shiit. ;-)
Workhorse headphones for all musicians
I have this headphones for few years now, and I am very satisfield with almost every aspect.
They are very comfortable (with velur pads, with leather pads little less), they are light (which is good if you wear them for a longer time) and they sound nice.
The sound is clean and well defined, but these headphones are quite light in the bass area (this is mostly why i gave them 4 stars for sound).
the thing I love the most (as a bass player) is the midrange: it is well balanced, very focused and very useful when recording in studio or playing live, it defines instruments and makes them compact and easy to hear even when the levels of noise are high.
The highs are clear and silky and they dont scream at you when you drive them hard.
Altough they are 55 ohm, they are quite hard to drive (most mixers or headphone amps dont have problems but they tend to be quite quiet if used with phones or some computers.
The quality is very good, mine survived a lot of drops and gigs and are still great with minimal signs of use.
These are still my best allround headphones (especially for recording) altough i use others too (Audio Technica ATH 50X, Beyerdynamic DT-150, Sennheiser HD-25)
Love IT!
I was a little bit affraid, wha I will get for this price, but!!! I was impressed! Very clear natural sound. I am using it for making music and mastering. Sound is amazing! Highly recommended product! Worth every cent!
Weird to get used to but overall very good
I got this pair of headphones for my home studio to use when recording vocals. A common issue I was having using any other set of headphones was that every singer (including myself) was a bit out of pitch although while recording you think you are bang on. This is common when trapped frequencies in closed headphones alter the perception of tone.
A friend of mine recommended these headphones because they are designed exactly for this purpose. They free the range of frequencies that confuse singers and help stay on tune. At first I found them awkward because you get a very different sound than what you are used to, like middle range from 800 Hz to 1500 Hz missing or something, but after I used them for a few sessions I got used to them and now I can record vocals perfectly.
I like the switch feature on the headband, they turn off when you take them off. Only downside is that they are a bit low on volume but my mixing desk has a preamp so I don't have a problem.
Great for homestudios.
The most important thing you need when you're looking for studio headphones is the quality giving you a clear and a true tone. That's exactly what you get with these perfect studio headphones.
These headphones are both comfortable as well as they shut out all noise around you. Other headphones I've tried in the same priceclass as these haven't been comparable to these.
The only thing I would recommend to do is to be careful of running over the cable with your chair or similar things, since the cable seems to be easy to break. I don't think this is a problem as long as you take care of your headphones, as you should do with everything else.
Great headphones for a good price, recommended for home studios.
They won't fail you.
Using for over 4 years now and certainly i would go for them next time, maybe just newer model . They are very comfortable and have 2 ear muffs with them so you can choose whats best for you.
Only concern is bass sound, sometimes i think they don't get it as other brands do but thats maybe just me.
Great product overall
sounds great!
Sounds great! But not many shops sell them here in Sweden. Very comfortable, and a true classic for studio recordings. They do lack some of the punch other headphones have, but all the details are heard. Some people claim the don't have enough bass, but still, they go deeper than most headphones out there.
Precise sound for studio environment
AKG is well known for it´s studio quality products including microphones, headphones etc. And there is a good reason for that.
AKG K-271 MKII continues the line of AKG quality headphones. These are relatively light weight headphones and they are comfortable to wear. Even after use of longer periods of time. Sound is clear and well balanced. Typical to AKG headphones, there is no low end boost so fashionable nowadays. In studio this is good, but I can´t recommend these for people who are looking for a “phat bass” sound while listening to music from a portable player etc. For studio work these are great. That´s where these headphones really shine.
Well balanced for (home)recording
I bought the AKG K-271 MKII on 11th July 2012. Main application area for me is the use as monitor for my (home)recording. It has a well balanced sound. No disturbing amplification of bass, mid or heights.
Furthermore I sometimes play guitar with my Marshall JMD:1 50 Head via DI Out in my Focusrite Scarlett 4i2 and the sound is good. Good enough for playing many hours without any problems.
I love the auto-shut-off feature and it is helpful, that the cable has its own jack to the headphone. If the cable is damaged you only need to buy a new cable. That´s a clever solution.
All in all the AKG K-271 MKII gets five stars from me. Only the heat after long wearing the headphone leads to a minus of one star for comfort, but that does not touch the total result.
The Best Headphones I Ever Used
I recommend these headphones for anyone looking for a pair of good quality headphones for uses in the studio. The sound quality is far superior than what i expected from headphones this price. There is no loss of sound in the high range and the bass is very clear. They are very good in the studio and cut out outside sound well especially at high notes
Great for recordings but also for listening at home
I bought them for their neutral sound and I'm very satisfied with them. When you have a small head you may need to find the right position for the earphones because otherwise the signal stops because of the auto-shut-off. This is a feature I don't really need but apart from that they fit well and the sound is just what I had been looking for
Best studio headphones
These AKG K-271 MKII are my second headphones of this brand. The other I using just to listening music, but i needed something more professional. I made a little research and than I choose this particular product. I making records in my home studio and the quality of the monitors is very important. When I tried AKG K 271 MKII for very first time I felt them pretty comfortable on my head. They are big and fit good. I love the cable. You may plugging and unplugging whenever you want, and change it with another. It is interesting how they work only on the head. When you removed them they doesn't work. It is very cool safety system. And in the end , the sound you hear from AKG K-271 MKII is great.
Good headphones
Bought these a few years ago and still using them. Have done alot of demoing and a few albums and there holding up to studio life. Automatic shut off is handy when left in the recording room. Will be using them for the forseeable future
Good sound, not so good material...
I am a drummer and i bought these to use as monitor headphones when recording in studio and use them for mixing especially for the effects (reverb etc). Right out of the box, the plastic material and ear pads look a bit poor quality at first, but the extra telephone type cable and the golden plated screw-head jack extension is pretty cool. It doesn't fit tight on the head, it's pretty loose, so it's a bit uncomfortable when playing drums; but it won't be a problem for a guitar player, a pianist or a singer. It's also very poor at sound isolation. This becomes a trouble for especially drummers, you hear all the acoustic sound when playing. Again, i don't think it will be a problem for other musicians. The sound quality is very good. Very detailed, clear and crisp highs & mids, and stunning performance at lower frequencies. These babies give you lowest end your ears are able to hear, without distortion... The impedance is so low that it blows your head with the volume and still no (or very little) distortion. Very good choice for vocals, wind instruments, guitars, keyboards etc; drummers better look somewhere else though...
Magnifier glass
For judging my sound on location, I use this headphone in addition to Beyerdynamic DT770. The AKG K-271 MKII does not sound "pleasant" but it will give you the tiniest details of what your microphones hear, especially transient information.
The transient detail density also makes it very useful for narrators and voice-overs, as they will immediately hear their own lip smacks and saliva noises, resulting in a much better behaviour of the mouth.
I love the automatic switch in the headband mechanism. Some artists have the tendency to take off their headphones near a microphone and the switch will avoid feedback ruining anything in the chain. The only problem is with hipsters who want to hold the headphone in their hand with one speaker to an ear. Or when they want to protect their valuable hair dress and keep the headband in their neck. In these cases no sound will come out of it. Much to my enjoyment, as I despise behaviour with an "attitude". Let's just get the work done and put it on your head properly! This headphone is very good for that.
In comparison to the Beyerdynamic DT770, I should say that the 770 has a much more easy to listen to sound with fewer detail accentuation. So in case I need to reassure an uncertain musician when they want to hear back their playing (violinists especially), I prefer to hand them the DT770. The AKG K-271 MKII would be a bit too honest in such a situation. Also: the DT770 is better suitable to judge low frequency rumbling when you do a location recording. It's overblowing the lows, but that can be helpful if you want to find a good setting for your HPF.
All in all I think the AKG K-271 MKII and the Beyerdynamic DT770 make a very good addition to each other, in both studio and location recording.
