Behringer Pro-1 5-stars Reviews
The Bad, the PRO and the 1 !
My First Dream Synth (well... the original SC Pro-One)! The Behringer Pro-1 is a faithful recreation of the legendary Sequential Circuits Pro-One synthesizer, beloved by musicians and producers for its iconic sound and versatile features. As a fan of vintage synthesizers, I was eager to explore what the Pro-1 had to offer, and it exceeded my expectations in many ways. First and foremost, the build quality of the Pro-1 is exceptional. Behringer has done an excellent job of capturing the look and feel of the original Pro-One, with its sleek design and sturdy construction. The layout is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy to dive in and start creating sounds right out of the box. Sound-wise, the Pro-1 delivers the classic analog warmth and character that made the original Pro-One famous. The authentic VCOs (Voltage-Controlled Oscillators) and filters faithfully reproduce the distinctive sound of the original instrument, with rich basses, searing leads, and everything in between. The inclusion of additional features like oscillator sync and filter FM further expands its sonic palette, allowing for a wide range of sounds and textures. One of the standout features of the Pro-1 is its extensive modulation capabilities. With two envelopes and an LFO (Low-Frequency Oscillator), as well as a versatile modulation matrix, I've been able to create complex and evolving sounds with ease. The inclusion of a sequencer and arpeggiator adds even more creative possibilities, allowing for intricate patterns and rhythms. Another highlight of the Pro-1 is its connectivity options. In addition to standard MIDI connectivity, it also features CV/Gate inputs and outputs, making it easy to integrate into a modular setup or control external gear. The inclusion of USB connectivity further enhances its versatility, allowing for easy integration with modern studio setups. Overall, the Behringer Pro-1 is a fantastic synthesizer that pays homage to a classic instrument while also offering modern features and enhancements. Whether you're a seasoned synthesist or a newcomer to the world of analog synthesis, the Pro-1 is sure to inspire creativity and exploration. (Pro) 1 problem - getting it in tune is more difficult than catching an Unicorn... Nothin' is Perrrfect! ;) Conclusion: BUY IT!
Lovely little synth!
love this little synth, has a great sound and cant beat the price offered from behringer.
Trumpets.
Bass to High , harmonics, great!! Love Behringer and I don't care about preset's!!!! Learn my instrument!
PRECIOUS - MUST HAVE
True analog sound, so warm, crisp, raw!
This synth is excellent for Basses, Drones, Arps/Seqs & FX.
Especially when grouped with FX pedals or VST FX, it can traverse dimensions!
The vintage Prophet 1 is among my favourite synths but out of reach nowadays, so I’m over the moon with this recreation which seems completely faithful to the original with some added features. It’s a precious piece of gear which should be in every studio!
A keeper in the setup
I have bought and sold quite a few analog synths in the past few years. Many of them were Behringer, and I was very happy with all of them. The Pro-1 is a keeper in my setup. Together with the Behringer Crave, it's the only synth I consistently keep coming back to. Fantastic analog sounds with a nice amount of grit. Great sharp leads and strong snappy bass sounds. It's early 80's synth sounds galore.
Get it, you won't regret it.
Outstanding
Almost better than the real thing
Creamy bass
Much more fun and immediate than the boog. Straight into thick deeep funky bass the moment this is switched on.
Great synth at a great price, manual is lacking, but I fixed that!
Awesome addition to my studio. For basslines and melodies alike. User documentation is lacking, so I’ve written a more comprehensive user guide, free to download at
HOLY MOTHER
I'd used an original one of these 2 decades ago, and it wailed in the best way possible. Behringer have outdone themselves, this is a faithful reproduction, but lacking a zero at the end of the price. Unreal.
It's like having all your birthdays, xmasses, orgasms all in one day.
Great for cinema scoring
The Pro-1 is a beast of synth. Primarily use it for bass sounds, you can really get those fat, deep, punchy sounds. Also great for soundscapes, cinematic drones style.
Get the Pro-1 patch saver from Sunny Synths so you dont have to take pictures or draw your patch settings.
How I use it:
The Behringer Pro-1 is a beast at making thick basses. I love making deep reese basses, and this is where the modulation part of this synth really shines!
Pros & Cons:
+ It sounds like a proper analogue unit.
+ It's very good for basses and subs.
+ The modulation part is perfect for me.
+ It has Eurorack capabilities.
- It can get repetitive. There's not a whole lot of different sounds you can make. But it's great for basses, which is why I'm keeping it :)
PWM, CV's
PWM is working a bit strange (min & max PWM = zero volume of osc). Also CV do not work out of the box with beatstep pro. Beatstep has V/Oct settings.
Other then that quality is really nice for the price.
Behringer Pro-1
It's my first analog synth and I'm really happy with the purchase.
Very authentic sounding
Takes a bit of getting used to but there are some great tutorials on youtube. It really comes to life with reverb and delay and its very thick sounding like the original. Sounds great in a mix.
Great value for money...
Pros:
- authentic sounding
- cheap
- easy to use arpeggiator and step sequencer
- hand on tweaking for oscillators and LFO's
cons:
- no preset saving
Great synth for a beginner!
My first hardware synth. Easy to learn, as every parameter is on the front. Nice modulations options. Good build quality.
Great sound, a little bit on a retro side, but it is an 80's synth, right?
The filter has its own character, very nice.
Pros: sounds great, nice filter, easy to control, lot of modualtions, arp is quite nice, but limited in options.
Cons: lacks real sequencer.
Overall, I would highly recommend!
True value-for-money synth
What Behringer did by adding a small patch bay really brings the initial Pro One synth architecture to modern times. The capabilities, especially when using stack cables, are numerous. Coming from a VST-only background, this module was a massive breath of fresh air for me, especially because of the feedback loop options. To clarify, I am not referring just to audio feedback, but even feedback routing like Mixer Out to OSC PWM.
As for the sound, it is capable of deep bass for sure, but where it shines is the higher frequencies. The oscillators have crisp, clear highs, and the Curtis filter is beautifully paired with them. Because of this (by default) bright sounding setup of components, I found the Pro-1 cutting through my mixes where Diva or other VSTs were lost, even when purposefully drowning them in long reverb. (as you do)
I use this module for both clear melodic content, and experimental music sound design, and I thoroughly enjoy it in both.
The cons I could spot where that, some features are hidden and need to be looked up online, and the Resonance CV tends to get loud easily.
Good Bit of Kit
Thoroughly enjoying my Pro-1. I'm pretty new to synths but I love the sounds I can get from this.
The only Con is there isnt much documentation that come with it, but there is plenty of tutorials, help and patch ideas online.
Excelent Synth but with asterisks.
I was really craving for this one, since I always had an attraction to the Prophet synths. And indeed this synth delivers a very close sound and the feel to the original Pro One. Of course, like its' brothers, it features patch points which you can use to further modulate the sound.
I must report, that I had an unexpected with the Arp / Sequencer, where notes were not triggered properly. The issue somehow got fixed (without any update). When this issue was resolved, it was such a great fun playing with both.
My main concern, is that the synth won't respond to the lowest midi notes. It goes down to C0 and then stops, so I really found myself wishing it would go lower than that, when I was playing bass lines. I'm guessing this is to be faithful to the original, but I wish Behringer integrated it as an option to a future Synthtool / Firmware update.
My verdict is that, especially for this price, Pro-1 is a must have, and you'll spend hours of making music, pretending to be John Carpenter, scoring his next film, in the 80s (that's a nuendo for requesting a Pro-5 clone actually) ;)
Terrific
Amazing quality for the money. I have a neutron and a d from behringer as well but this is the one i like best of the 3. it is simpler/easier to use than the others - the controls seem a lot more solid and responsive than the other two and it has a sequencer which adds to the fun plus the modulation matrix is pretty easy to get your head around relative to the modulation on the other 2. If you want to buy one of the behringers and you are new to analog synths this is probablty the one to buy. Highly recommended.
Sound very nice!
One thing that Behringer not include in their clones.... MIDI CC...
Knobs can be controlled by the CV inputs ONLY!
