Behringer UMC404HD Reviews
Very easy to plug and play
I bought this in order to record vocals, guitar, keys and electric drums in at the same time into Garage Band. I am using a Mac and so it was literally plug and play. ( I think there is a download required with a PC) I have just finished my first recording and it couldn't have been more simple. The only slight gripe is that it doesn't come with an English plug and so they send an adapter with it which makes resultant combined plug stick out of the wall a lot.
Incredible Interface
I bought this so I could do various types of high quality recording while travelling, using a laptop and taking advantage of doing so at 192kHz.
It truly is built like a tank but weighs very light, the sound is incredible at three times the price and it can handle pretty much any load you throw at it...without the need to plug it into the mains.
Yes, to dispel confusion, it will run on USB power. You'll have to download the drivers, which is common for most things nowadays but they're no fuss to install. But, it may be a worry when you open the control panel from the system tray to find the 'Asio inactive' message. Good news! It only becomes active when it's needed. So as soon as you open a DAW and ensure the unit is selected and that you want Asio, then it just does it for you. Close the DAW and it reverts to 48kHz 24-bit for regular audio.
So, it's all Pros really, as the Cons are simply minor niggles of learning how it actually works by only accessing what it needs when you need it.
Great product, great buy, fantastic value.
Does what it is supposed to very well
I am not an expert in these types of interfaces, the last time I recorded was in the 90s and I was using analogue mixers, Commodore Amigas and SCSI drive samplers. I have had no issues in setting this up and getting it to do what I want it to do. In fact I have made no effort to configure it, it just works. My Mac recognises it and it works seamlessly with Logic Pro X. I can even run my Line 6 Helix output through it to my KRK speakers no problems at all. I am also using as the midi interface for my FA-07 again with no issues. There may be many features I'm not using, which are not apparent. I believe this interface represents good value and should be considered if you are just testing the waters with DAW.
Great Interface for home use
I recommend these to any friends who want to get into music production. It has a low noise floor compared to anything else its price, the quality is good and it's durable..
Could not work without it
I use the Behringer UMC404HD in many different environments, my small mixing studio to prepare sound effects for shows, in the theater to drive multiple amplifiers and finally for live 4 track recording in church venues. As it also comes with a Midi interface I also use it to drive the lighting board in theater. I cannot recommend this unit more highly for reliability, ease of use and functionally.
Extremely useful interface
I own 2 of these units as I keep one as standby. The main use is in providing incidental sound for drama at an amateur theatre. The software I use can handle multiple channels across different sound cards, so combined with the laptop stereo out, I have six channels of audio routed to different positions in the auditorium all under software control, without the expense of a digital mixer.
Begginer/Budget friendly audio Interface
The Behringer UMC404HD is a good option for a begginer in music production or no.It has a lot of connections (4in-4out) and the built quality is above the avarage with metal frame and good quality plastic at knobs, buttons and frontface inputs).I cant find any disadvantage for my use
Very good value for your money
I've had this interface for a over 6 months now and I have no complaints. It's actually surpassed my expectations for an audio interface this price with the amount of connections it has!
U-phoria UMC404HD
excellent. just what I needed
Completely Satisfied
Great budget interface for recording. Totally recommend if you're just starting and need some more inputs than the traditional 100-120€ Interfaces
Can't believe the quality of this product for the price!
This compact, durable and lightweight unit has an amazing sound to go with an amazing price. It definitely holds its own with the big boys, and i recently swaped out my focusrite 2i2 for the Behringer as i needed extra inputs. So far i haven't had a single hickup with this audio interface and i've managed to record Vocals, Drums and Guitar with ease in the house or at other locations. It's easy to carry in a bag with a laptop. The PAD's on the front are a very useful feature that i didnt have previously. Preamps sound great. No latency issues.
I haven't come accross any cons with this product, and it's nice to see Behringer making extremely good quality Audio Interfaces.
For the price, it does its job very good. The audio quality is also very good.
Great price for a great sounding interface.
I bought this to replace an old Roland 2 input interface as my gear had outgrown it. The thing that appealed to me most was having 4 inputs so I could simultaneously record 4 tracks, but the thing that really blew me away was the clarity of the inputs and outputs. No longer do I get a hum or any interference, my HS7s sound better than they did before and my acoustic guitar recording has improved greatly.
I use this in my home studio, mainly to record acoustic guitar and vocals, but I also record my Telecaster (into a DeVille) and a Korg Volca FM straight into the behringer inputs. I have this interface running into a 2018 27" iMac with Logic Pro and it works perfectly, no messing around with installation, it just works!
I can't think of anything that's not to like about this product, I guess my only regret is that I didn't pay the extra and get the 8 inputs as my list of gear that I want is growing (isn't everyones?).
If 4 is all you need for a home studio set up, then buy this interface immediately. It rocks.
Great for beginners
I bought this to test the quality and to be honest, it's fairly decent considering. It's definitely worth the money and a great starter point for anyone who wishes to get into the world of recording. It would suit home demos, personal podcasts, recording MIDI etc. Very handy to have lying around in case you need to record a quick track. Don't drop it - it cannot handle it. I haven't dropped mine, but I've witnessed one falling a couple of inches and it died instantly. Otherwise it does feel sturdy enough and over-all has very decent features.
very good
easy to use and perfect for the price,
non professional sound quality (as expected),
but very good overall
GREAT PRODUCT, FRAGILE USB PORT
All in all, great product but the Usb port breaks and i can't connect to the computer anymore even though it's on.
I have had two of this interface and that seems to be the only bad side.
Great product after all. Does the job!
Great
Amazing interface for a small home studio.
Incredible bang for your buck in terms of well implemented features, but the headphone out can be a bit quiet, and the windows drivers tend to crash when switching driver modes.
I've used this interface to record a digital piano's headphone out (by means of a Y-split cable) + midi (+VST), a condenser microphone, and electric guitar. In all cases monitoring latency was fine, whether monitoring directly through the interface itself or through Windows 10 on a computer after further processing (VSTs / mixing in auxiliary streams). Listening at 24bit 192kHz at 1024 samples introduced just shy of 10ms of latency without any pops or clicks.
As a DAC the sound quality is stellar, so I keep my head phones hooked up to the interface even when I'm not recording. The problem is though, the interface's Windows driver tends to crash every now and then when software request the device be used in a different buffer mode (ASIO / WASAPI / DirectSound), at which point the interface won't record or produce sound until the computer is rebooted. N.B. this is mostly a non-issue if you're not planning on using the interface as a general computer DAC, and just always run it in ASIO mode with for example a DAW.
Another downside is the head phone monitor jack which can be a bit on the quite side, even at maximum volume. You might need an external amplifier to drive your cans, but your mileage may vary.
At this price point it's very hard to get 4 XLR/jack combo inputs with phantom power at 24 bit 192kHz, with MIDI. The occasional reboot notwithstanding, I can't recommend this interface enough.
Unreal price to performance
Blown away by the quality for the price. the headphone output sounds better than my Babyface Pro!
Pros:
+ Cheap
+ Solid Build
+ Great headphone Amp
+ Low Latency (especially using WASAPI)
Cons:
+ Wish there was a power-off button
I think Behringer UMC404HD is best audio interface in this price range. No one can offer the same quality and features for this price (like inputs, outputs, MIDI, etc.)
