Behringer Xenyx Q802USB Reviews
Does its job
We use it in our classes to mix a backingtrack with a mic or an instrument, it's quite inexpensive and does its job very well.
Great for beginners who are looking to set up a small PA.
We didn't explore its usb features.
The most complete of all the Q(X)xx02 range
Let's get the cons out first.
No on/off switch or integrated power supply
USB/2-track is single directional (either input or output your choice)
No low cut on the mic channels
Very few level indicators
No PFL
No XLR outputs
No integrated FX
No levels on the USB/2-track
The above features would have made this a killer product BUT at a much higher price. TBH I would gladly have paid an extra 10-12Euros for a QX802USB that would have had FX, Low cut switch and master fader as the QX1002/1202
But what mattered to me most and what makes this mixer stand out from the rest of the Behringer line is the fact that this is the only mixer at this price point (along with the plain 802) that offers 3band EQs on the stereo channels as well. Compared to the plain 802 whose price is a steal this one also offers compressors on the mic channels and a USB interface.
And actually if you factor in the Stereo Aux/FX return you actually have 10 channels.
Quality-wise a huge weak point is the power supply coupling at the mixer side, pay extra attention when plugging and removing the power supply so as not to strain the solder connections on the board.
a good present for a friend
the best choice when you need to centralize your music sources in one sound system
Good sturdy device
I own this interface for a little over 2 years now, I moved to a new house and dropped it in the moving process I was sure it broke... But it still works perfectly like nothing ever happened.
I am very pleased with this product, for the price it is the best you can get. Its basic and cheap but it works like a charm.
If you need an interface now real quick and are low on cash then look no further.
I use it for basic recording of my songs/ideas and it serves me well.
At this price there are no cons there are only pros on this one. Of course do not expect the best professional sound quality and it has just basic functions.
Overall this is an extremely great product.
Super zum Einstieg.
Lasse darüber meine Trigger und Musik laufen, funktioniert einwandfrei und ist stabil. Sehr gut.
For this price you won't get anything better
For real, I had one that got stollen after a gig and I immediatly bought another one.
It's not too big for my needs, has all the ports I need and it's simply the best USB mixer you can get for this price range..
Doesnt feel cheep or anything close to that, I found the knobs to be durable and, besides the USB thing, having 2 XLR with 48v Phantom Power is great for small producers looking to do some great home recordings, youtubers and even live concerts if you're playing with a mixer just for yourself for some reason.
blind purchase..
If you are luck enough, because is discontinued, take it with closed eyes! Versatility, quality, result! Affordable! Great product.
Behringer live mixer
Works great for me for live monitoring on stage. Sound is crisp and clear. Lots of volume. 2 Mics inputs which I use for my kick sound and live keys. Compact and hasnt failed after a year of use. I certainly recommend this product.
a bit confusing but a good product for the price
I bought this to record our bands rehearsal , for this it works great !
the first issue is I can not keep it on all the time because it gets hot and it lacks of the on/off is disturbing so I wouldn't use as a multipurpose sound-card like i do with my audiobox USB , rather I would only use it only when needed.
second issue for me ,it uses asio4all and i found that annoying when dealing with multiple applications.
in terms of sound quality its very good , I was able to get zero latency monitoring by doing a simple loop workaround and it works great ( after a bit of research)
pros :
- price is very good for what it does
- solid construction
- sound quality is very good
cons:
- no power switch
- gets hot after a while
- phantom power led gets stays on even after turning it off - has no proprietary driver , works with asioa4all.
for this price and functionality, i would recommend.
A few days in
I'v had this mixer a few days in already, i have it connected to my sound card via stereo (irrelevant: my sound card is also Behringer, the 204HD model).
First thing i want to highlight is don't expect to compare this to mixers in the 400-500? range, it's a cheap product for beginners/intermediate users.
The mic preamps seem fine for what you pay for, i still would rather use my sound card when recording. It does offer 48v phantom power, which is rare in the price category. The effects are okay nothing special. It's compact size is awesome for fitting it in your backpack and going for jam sessions, the size does come at a cost though, instead of faders for the channels you have level knobs which is okay but a little less accurate that faders. It does offer USB connectivity if you would like to use it as a sound card itself. The mic channels also have a compressor, not great but definitely useful when jamming with multiple instruments. The first downside i found was that is does not have rubber fits on the bottom for grip on your table top. This was a little annoying when someone accidentally stretches the cable plugged in, if not taken to account, it will easily slide over. This can be solved easily with velcro or rubber stoppers stuck to it. Sad that they did not think of this when making it.
All in all a great bang for the buck, if you're looking for extra inputs to your 2i2 setup (like i was) to plug a little more instruments and jam at the same time. I haven't used it via USB so i'm not sure if it supports multi-mix for your DAW via individual channels.
Pros:
- Price tag must be highlighted 77?
- Perfect amount of inputs (2 mic/line and 2 stereo/mono inputs) capable of accommodating 4 instruments of all kinds.
- Heavy build for the price
Cons:
- Not very stable on a table top setup, must be fixated using creativity/other equipment
- No faders
Would recommend this to noobs and people looking for cheap alternative to having more inputs.
Great little soundboard
This little Behringer soundboard is realy great. It has a lot of inputs, and offers an option to record a stereo signal into a mac or pc. It also gives the option to send audio to the soundboard from the pc.
Very compact and portable, great for small gigs or monitoring.
Q802 usb mixer
great product apart from rocking feet (uneven) but does exactly what it says on the can !
Cheap little mixer
I use this to deliver sound to my active monitors, drive my microphone and drive my bass.
The good:
Lots of I/O
Small EQ
Phantom power
Cheap
Usb recording / playback
Seems sturdy, though my desktop isn't the big durability challenge.
Gain knobs
The bad
The knobs is very unprecise. Some channels have sound leak when they should be muted, and at lower volumes, the main mix will deliver very unevenly divided sound to my monitors.
No direct monitoring while recording, unless you reroute AUX in/out together.
No on/off button
No pads on the underside
Might look at bit silly on your desktop
Overall:
It is great for the price, and suits my needs.
Not bad at all
That is't too much to say about this mixer.
Is not a bad mixer, It's preamps aren't bad, The EQ isn't bad, The Overall quality Isn't bad also.
But, If you need a good mixer, where the sound quality is the central point, you should save more money.
It's good for a simple homestudio, or to mix a couple of mics.
It have built-in phantom power, that's a plus.
The built in interface is pretty good, is in the same level as some standalone interfaces of known brands at the pricepoint of this mixer.
Overall, Is a nice mixer, but if you're a pro, look elsewhere.
Review
Thanks for Behringer Xenyx Q802 USB. Mixer works perfectly. This mixer I am using for my in ear monitors to control high, mid and low sounds. As well I am using it to write DEMO songs via USB - sounds really nice. This is perfect choice for applications I am using it. Simple control and perfect price. One minus - I can not find appropriate case for an appropriate price. This is my second Behringer and I am really satisfied with it. Both are working every weekend - first Behringer (XENYX X1832 USB) already for 4 years without any errors, that is why I took my second meixer from Behringer too. Thanks for my colleague for recommendation - he is working with Behringer mixer already for 11 years.
Not a bad little desk
Bought this USB desk mainly to use as a USB interface!
It does work well and i guess overall i am pleased with it.
Bear in mind it does come with a 2 pin EU plug so those in the UK will need an adapter.
It's a little bit gutting in the fact the USB will only work one way at a time.
Therefore you cant record onto a multi-tracking system and listen to your live recording input and the tracks already on the software.
If you push down to listen to the USB then the recording stops,
So its either a record OR Listen desk - both do not work at the same time
Other then that its a great little compact desk,
Recording quality and general sound quality is pretty good.
I would recommend this for basic recording but not so much if you want to multi track record
An excellent small USB mixer which works under Linux
I bought this mixer based on my past experiences with Behringer who offer great quality at an affordable price.
I was after a small USB mixer which would allow me to record from a digital piano, electric guitar (via stereo effects unit) and a phantom powered XLR microphone. The Q802USB was an excellent choice with a few spare inputs.
When connected to my desktop PC it's connected to a microphone on channel 1, a guitar effects unit on channel 3 and 4 and a digital piano on channel 5/6 leaving a spare mono input on channel 2 and a stereo input on channel 7/8 (without mixing knobs).
When I want to record elsewhere it's compact enough to move around easily allowing me to record from a guitar effects unit in other rooms on my laptop.
The Q802USB works perfectly both under Windows, recording in Rosegarden, I have also tested it under Linux (Mint 17) on my laptop, connected via Jack2 and recording in Rosegarden and Ardour.
I like the headphones amp on the Q802USB as the headphones out on my guitar effects pedal is so quite that it's barely usable, when jamming in silence I can connect the effects pedal to the Q802USB and use the headphones socket on the mixer allowing me to adjust the volume to my liking.
My only issue with the Q802USB is that it has hard feet rather than rubberized feet (which I will be adding via sticky back rubber pads), when the mixer is placed on a hard surface such as a desk it is prone to sliding around should a cable be tugged or when you try to adjust the dials.
Overall I think this is a great small USB mixer which works well under Windows and Linux (and most likely Mac, although untested by myself), it offers a great range of inputs and outputs to suite most hobbyist home recording, phantom power to get the most out of a condenser microphone in a compact package.
Bargain price for an interface
This product does a fantastic job and a great price. If you're building a set up on a budget, don't hesitate to buy this.
Great home mixer
I purchased the behringer xenyx as my very first mixer. I wanted to start basic home recording. After a bit of research this seemed like a good choice.
It was not extortionately expensive and had more than enough features for basic home use.
I received this mixer within a few days of placing the order. It came boxed in offcial packaging, upon opening of this, I was presented with the mixer itself. It is very small and compact but this does not mean it lacks features.
Mixer feels sturdy and build quality does seem very high. This is also easy to use, I myself have no previous experience with mixing but I was able to work out how to use this mixer very quickly. It has multiple channels which are more than enough for home recording.
This is also a USB mixer which is a great feature meaning that all my recordings are easily transferable to my computer.
I recommend this mixer to anyone looking to start home recording and without a large budget to spend.
Fantastic piece of equipment
Bargain too.
Plug'n'play under Linux. I was a little skeptical about all the glowing reports of this series of mixers, am not a fan of USB in general and didn't need a bells'n'whistles console. Just something to mic a guitar cab, add a vocal mic, DI some bass etc etc.
Does the job above my expectations. The USB sound card was instantly recognised and appears to have zero issues co-existing with the onboard sound card. The scales fell from my eyes. Within minutes, I was into audacity and recording. Construction wise, it is more than adequate and I see no reason for it to fail. The PSU brick is a little noisy. Not via the mixer, but it does induce noise into the chain if it is too close to guitar leads. Doesn't make a jot of noise if kept a few inches away though.
For a home recorder, it's good. None of this 'for the money' nonesense, it is a good unit.
Mic preamps are effective, the eq has more than enough scope to cope, the compressors are not awful. In fact, they're quite subtle. This is good. It may not pass muster for everyone, but for me, it does all I need.
For a band on a budget or for getting ideas recorded quickly, top marks.
