Very fun little box

If you are used to electron gear and don't mind little menu diving digitakt really is so much fun. It gets really different kind of grooves and melodies out of me.

Near perfect drum machine/sequencer

Workflow is fast and easy, especially after watching True Cukoo's tutorial. The onboard sounds are great and you can sample or transfer your own in. The only thing I don't like is the file management: creating your own folders, moving things around, etc. is not as easy as it should be. Lots of time selecting/unselecting at the individual sample level and there should be a way in the Elektron Transfer software to do something as simple as delete a folder and samples in it. This is the only reason I mark down 1 star. I hope Elektron will address this in an update. A few more FX would have also been nice - the simple delay and reverb are not much in comparison to the TR-8S which also does parameter locks and now even FM drums. Hopefully more to come via updates.

It takes some time to learn your way around this machine but once you got it, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities.

The Elektron sequencer is very flexible and gives the possibility for some more complex and interesting patterns.

Sampling is ok, there is a lot of storage space for recording and transferring files, although editing is not that easy, if you want to make precise cuts.

I have to say that one of the best things about it, is its unbeatable sound. I guess this is due to its convertors. Clean and rich sound with smashing low end.

Another great feature is the LFO which can go at very high rates making FM-like sounds possible.

Definitely an essential machine for every beat maker.

The most creative tool I own

i have never before owned something that inspires me to constantly create something new. The workflow and sound quality enable you to get creative and start making music without having to worry about limitations or breaking your flow by making you deep dive into endless menus. The only thing I would say is a limitation is that the L/R inputs sum the signal into mono and you do not have any control over gain or panning. Monitoring the inputs as stereo is only available when the digitakt is connected to overbridge which defeats the whole purpose of going DAWless. The reason it bothers me is because I want to have the digitakt as my main synth/drum machine/sampler/mixer and have the rest of the synths accompany it which I cannot do because my stereo synth is no longer stereo when I connect it to the digitakt input. Also stereo sampling would be great but I understand not wanting to destroy the sales of the octatrack. Overall one the best pieces of gear i own.

Fabulous Box Of Tricks

After the learning curve it's great - be prepared to watch plenty of videos on YouTube.

Pros:

The addition of the step sequencer function, whilst late, is very welcome.

Built very well

Midi out feature-set is outstanding

Sound quality gets better the more I learn about it.

Almost a studio must-have it's that good.

Cons: Learning curve, no mixer EQ.

Mono samples (but channels are OK to pan)

Would benefit from a SD card reader for on-the-go libraries

MIDI Brain

This machine is insane, and once the Overbridge software was released, for the first time in my life, I could use my machines with Ableton without lag issues.

Used it to control the Minilogue, Minibrute and other tools, and it just keeps on giving. The more you dig in, the more you discover about it.

Totally recommend it: super durable, metal case, quality build.

Road ready

This is my first sampler, an area I thought I'd never be interested in till I got this but has totally flipped my perspective on how much is possible to do with samples.

The built in 8-track MIDI sequencer is also fantastic, and has let me get even more control out my other gear. 8 MIDI LFOs!

A fantastic machine

This synth is absolutely fantastic. It sounds great and manages to be extremely versatile while also having a ton of character. The firmware has been updated continually and the features expanded considerable.

Awesome drum machine for the cash

Awesome value for money drum machine. I have the Rytm now and love it but the DT is still a really compelling machine! Moving from it to the Octatrack i realised just how good its FX are , and I really missed the overbridge option. Highly highly recommended!

The best drum machine out there. It's the heart of my setup and controls almost everything, with 8 MIDI tracks it's a powerhouse sequencer and beatbox

All around beautiful machine!

Mechanically and ergonomically the Digitakt is a thing of beauty, this might not be a metric you would think about when buying a "grove box" type machine but if you think of it as an instrument these aspects are very important indeed. And the Digitakt really is an instrument. As for everything else, expectedly as with anything Elektron it's flawless!

ELEKTRON

I love the device. small powerhouse. which comes with a cost: menu diving and double functions on almost every knob or button. Don't like complex machines: get something like the arturia drumbrute impact or similar. If you want to do sample mangling (not timestreching) on a small machine that is below 1000€, DIGITAKT is one of the best out there.

Perfect drum machine

I opened the new world.

Drum machine have a lot features and I'm like an astronaut (elektronaut) discover them. Absolutely wonderful when at third use day I found out that there is a new block of menus when use Func key :)

I expect that drum machine is hardly limited with 8 tracks. But youtube and Ricky Tinez (oh thank you man!) changed my opinion: you can write to one track each new iteration of track. Of course you wouldn't be able to undo previous changes in the simple way but if you need it you can do it with a couple of manipulations.

So I'm learning further how to use it and have a great fun. Especially I think about the moment when I will feel need of Digitone and connect it to a music station with Digitakt :)

Some negative points is that software still in development and Elektron don't work simply with my Macbook. I haven't enough time to find out the correct connection way so just use zoom h4 to record the result.

But Digitakt still have a pretty place in my playground.

It take a little while to learn the basics but you won't be sorry for putting in the time! Sounds tremendous!

Awesome sampler

I really love how Elektron sounds. But I think digitakt have some compromises.

GreAT GROOVEBOX/SAMPLER

I GOT DIGITAKT FOR 2 REASONS.

The first one was to get away from screen and the second to use it as a brain for my live rig!

This thing is amazing.Im working with it for 6 monhths now and i have just managed to scratch the surface of its posibilities!

Great construction and feeling .8 sample tracks with endless customizable abilities each.8 midi tracks that can control midi divices via midi cable or usb(i managed to do that also).

From the time that you ll learn its workflow you ll not be able to make music with anything else!

Amazing product! I only miss polyphony on the individual sample tracks but i just use a polyphonic sampler in one of the midi channels!

Great piece of gear!

One more thing you can work with it silmutaneously with your daw with overbridge!

Elektron Digitakt

I used this product for a home studio. it has crisp sound. what I like about it it's toughness, absolute satisfactory. The screen is marvelous with a clear window, . The more you learn, the quickest you go, a genuine joy.

Pros :

- a simple machine with a complex outcome

- very compact and rather sturdy

- very clean and Elektron-typical sound.

- designed for live output

- the overbridge feature is very promising

- very good value-for-money.

Cons :

- mono sound

- requires time to get beyond its apparent simplicity

- the 8 tracks are not enough

- OS new needs updating

it lacks tutorial and what comes in the box is quick guide without illustration of how to use.
