Elektron Digitakt Reviews
:)
The Digitakt is the perfect partner for eurorack or semi-modular synths. Get sampler and midi features
Fantastic!
Connected all my instruments to Digitakt using Quadra Thru - now i have single controller for all my gear. Feel myself like a space ship driver. Everything works perfect.
Best regards,

Truly incredible machine
Wow! This thing is amazing. Tons of features. Excellent build quality. Looks and feels very, very solid. As far as drum machines and sequencers go, the Digitakt is incredible for its price.
The workflow on this machine is quite unique. There's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get into it, the beats more or less write themselves! It's very common to have "happy accidents", where you mess with the parameters of a pattern and end up with something far better than you started out with.
I would strongly recommend this for anyone looking for an all-round drum machine and sequencer.
Excellent Little Machine
Can not fault, If you are looking for a drum machine, this is will do the trick and more for a very reasonable price
very good sampler / grove box awesome pre load sounds !
Sturdy little beast
As with all Elektron instruments, this box packs a solid punch.
Very versatile sampler/groovebox allowing you to build your own sampled kits like a dream.
Sturdy build, dynamic feature set, coupled with the tightest step sequencer on the planet!
The only drawback for me is the lack of song mode.. if only it had that - it would be huuuge!
But definitely bang for buck, a very fun machine and highly recommended.
Top top top
One of my best purchases. You can do almost anything with this machine!
Construction is really solid, design is beautiful (classic Elektron) and sound quality is excellent. I don't know how Elektron make all their machines sound so so so good. But thanks for that!!
Very good for live performance.
Effects are amazing.
The sequencer is awesome to use and very versatile.
Buying his sibling Digitone.
Excellent all-purpose groovebox with a sound of its own
I bought the Digitakt to act as both a standalone drum machine as well as for sequencing my Waldorf Blofeld Desktop until my Digitone arrives.
It's a true joy to work with it - even though it was my first time delving into the Elektron sequencing workflow and their OS (aside from watching tens of review videos online) and I haven't felt intimidated by it at all.
It's a brilliantly thought-out machine which was actually able to make me smile and grin with joy every time I've used it! Sampling from any source on it is a breeze and really-really fun!
Its possibilities for sequencing external gear are truly breathtaking - and I was truly in awe when I realized it can drive 8 voices of multitimbrality on my Waldorf Blofeld Desktop without a hiccup - all within a 45-minute mission-critical live set.
Furthermore, it has a pleasantly raunchy character to its sound. I don't exactly know how to describe it, but my Blofeld does sound quite different when passed through the Digitakt's audio ins and outs - decidedly with more bite/crunch to its sound at the expense of a bit of clarity - especially at the low end of the frequency spectrum.
Great piece of kit! I'd totally recommend - and it's a true steal for the money in terms of what it can do.
Art pice
This device is meant to be in the history, the build quality, the materials, the feeling when you play it, the features, the display... Everything about this device is unbelievably great. You can complain about mono sampling or the fact that MIDI Thru dosen't work as another Out. But still an amazing machine to produce and performance.
Godlike Standalone Production Studio
Probably the best hardware for music production around.
I can sample, chop, arrange, edit samples to the maximum. I can sequence anything, I can program all my midi synths to work from Digitakt.
Sounds and midi messages can be manipulated with millions of ways. Learning curve? A week at the most.
I use it as a recorder, midi sequencer, sampler, song arranger, synth AND live performance tool.
I can't even imagine what the possibilities are going to be when Overbridge is finally released.
super fun and very easy to pick up, Would recommend will be even better once over bridge is launched with it in febuary
Compact Beast
Great machine will 100% change your work flow and add new features to your music, it has very simple and intuitive
interface which is also very deep. For me it works perfectly as a partner for my Ableton 9.7. I received it week ago and already made bunch of cool patterns and great sound-bank by sampling external gear and acoustic instruments. Only one insignificant issue were found in this sampler - it is a sound of pushing knobs which is not a problem for me but if you making music in a headphones with some other people in room trying to focus on their things - so for them it's seem to be annoying sound made some crazy person pushing old calculator knobs.
Elektron, say no more
Great device.
Got one of the first batches.
Works well, with no problems.
One of the encoders got stiffer over time.
Awesome machine, with disappointing bugs/lack of features
I love the Digitakt. It is an incredibly musical sampler device which encourages creativity and lets it flourish. Despite being deeply featured, it also is surprisingly easy to pick up and get going with. The parameter locks allow you to go well beyond what the 8 tracks of audio seem capable of initially.
Sadly, the software is incredibly disappointing. There is still no support for Overbridge at time of writing, despite the compatibility being listed on Elektron's site, the box, and the manual. This means that you can't stream individual audio tracks to your DAW, and are limited to the Stereo output on the back for recording.
On top of that, there are numerous bugs and issues with the features that have been known about, and not fixed for months. For example, there is no way to tell how full the included hard drive is, and no warning when you hit its limit. For a device of this price, there shouldn't be issues of this kind.
Tremendously intuitive machine
Versatile drum machine, the interface is easy to get to grips with, it sounds great and I can sequence synths with it. Very fast learning curve (Cuckoo is a great teacher :)). The features that I like the most:
- Conditional trigs!
- Portability
- Sample transferring
- Sound great
- Vintage feel
- Reverse from top menu
- MIDI sequencing (I have to admit that I didn't explore this feature so much)
- Waveform view
It's such a joy to manipulate it therefore I will not share the "this must be improve" side, despite the lack of Overbridge for the moment . Check the elektronauts forum, there are a lot of great ideas there. Hopefully, Elektron will take care in the near future.
In the time that I have had it, the Digitakt has quickly become the core of my entire setup, as it's MIDI functionality and Midi Parameter locks have completely changed the way I interact with the rest of my gear. Changing Patches and Parameters per step has really allowed me to use my synths in a way I hadn't even considered before.
Sampling on the Digitakt is easy and intuitive, and I've quickly built up a number of samples from my synths but also objects around the house, and the Digitakt's sound design possibilities allow you to push and pull your samples into weird places, which is great fun.
The build quality is great, the box is rugged, the buttons feel good to press and the encoders have no wobble whatsoever. The OLED Display is clear and bright with great viewing angles.
As of firmware v1.04 I still suffer from the occasional crash, but otherwise there are no other major problems with the OS.
The Digitakt is a great drum machine and "groovebox" and I would recommend it.
MPC Killer!
Amazing box! Still working out a couple of firmware bugs, but the updates so far have been pretty comprehensive. Once Overbridge is available, this will be just as comfortable in a home studio environment as it would at the centre of your live setup. Worth the wait.
Great product, but buggy at release
The build quality for this product is great, the chassis is solid, black paint is durable, the knobs feel nice and the keyboard-like buttons feel amazing.
The OS is not as amazing, at least not until a few more updates. The first update fixed a few issues with the encoder behavior, but freezes and crashes still happen in the v1.02 firmware. I am sure they will be addressed in future update.
The sound quality is good and I find Elektron took a very intuitive approach for designing the workflow - everything is simple to do and figure out on your own, you don't really need the manual for basic operation (but it's good to read it anyway since it's pretty feature packed).
