EV ELX 112P 5-stars Reviews
Great sound and look speaker
It is made of wood and has a natural sound.
They are elegant design and geate sound, unfortunately they a have pronounced hiss and actual/real power it's around 250W at most.
Great all rounder
For the Price a great front of house speaker for pub bands, and fantastic as a monitor.
Powerful
Huge sound and volume out of such a portable speaker. Paired with a ZXA1 sub it's a very handy setup for small to medium venues. The usual EV clarity and quality also. Good versatility of inputs on the back.
Great sound, loud enough.
These speakers are great for small venues up to 60 people where you don't want to bring a subwoofer because the wooden cabinet sounds warm and has plenty of bass, specially for a 12" woofer.
These aren't very loud and they clip pretty easy after warming but for me it's loud enough. They don't have enough acoustic pressure like an RCF but it doesn't have to.
They are elegant and they make a good impression in design and sound, unfortunately they a have pronounced hiss and actual/real power it's around 250W at most, a Mackie SRM 450 V1 has 450W and compared you cand hear and feel the difference between the two of them, the Mackie it's more loud and peaks very hard. The SRM450 V1 it's more than 10 years old, and ELX112p now has about 7-8 years since launch, so they are not so far away.
I think I would not buy them again, the amp it's a bit of a joke unfortunately, but I don't regret buying them, they are my main gear and I use them almost every week-end sometimes paired with one or two subwoofers Alto TS212s.
Love it
I think this speaker is one of the best choice in this price range. Lightweight and very powerfull. Very recommended
Fabulous Sound
Having researched various Pa speakers and prices I eventually took a risk and bought these without testing them. These are not available to buy in Ireland, or at least near my County in Ireland anyway. I was playing in a band that used another brand of speaker, in fact most bands in Ireland use that other brand due to the limited choice here. I'm glad I took the risk, not only are they marginally cheaper, they sound just as good. We played a big venue recently and they carried all the way to the back of the room without sounding muddy. There was great separation in the sound. Part of this was due to the mix, but the speakers were fantastic. I use them with the relevant Bass bins also. I would highly recommend them. They also look great with the LED logo. It's worth getting the EV covers for them to protect the casing. My band will be doing a lot of travelling so for me it's worth the investment to get the covers.
Very good sound with beautiful finish
Basic speaker design, very good sound quality.
a little bit high boost is better.
Sound great
We now have 4 of these and are using them as wedge monitors. We started with just 2 as FOH tops along with ELX118p subs where they sounded great.
They sound very clear - a huge upgrade in clarity to the SX300s we used to have.
The only bad thing I have to say about them is that the bass driver is underpowered compared to the power amp.
If you look at the passive version of these they are rated for around 250 watts rms... these apparently have 1000w amps in them (more like 500 w rms maybe).
Anyhow whatever the number are, some inexperienced users at work have driven these bit hard and blown two bass drivers which we've had to have replaced.
Be careful with that LF eq control if you are thinking of using them without subs.
Speakers i can trust
Bought them 2 years ago.
Been doing DJ gigs every weekend up to 100+ people, sometimes with only one 15' sub.
So far never failed me and i would buy them again.
Only minor wish - they could have 2 handles, Other then that, perfect for me.
Great
Great sound and construction.
Excellent value for money
This is a excellent speaker. Sounds clean even when pushed. Low weight and easy to move around.
Pros:
Sounds good
Has a input for a microphone. Good for the small gigs
Sounds good even going into limit.
Cons:
As it is made of wood it can easily get marks. Get the optional covers and they will stay nice looking.
Ev elx 112p
These are incredible. Vocals sound great through them when used for monitors, guitars sound great too. Acoustic guitars sound nice and warm through them. They are really loud and I haven't had to hack away at a graphic e.q to reduce feedback.
Brilliant Speakers!
I was playing in Belfast over the winter (2014/15) and had to spec a PA. After much deliberation and traipsing round various live music venues and music shops to get an idea as to what I should go for, I settled on these 'babies', together with the matching EV ELX 118P subs. And once it was all delivered and set up, I WASN'T disappointed - what an incredible sound! At the loudest - in a big venue - I've only ever had the 112P's at about 3/4's of full volume, and the subs at just over half! They're incredible! The beauty of the 112P's is that you have a switch to take out the lower frequencies when using them with the 118P subs, thus avoiding a 'mushy' and over-bassy sound, or you can switch to using them at full range when using them on their own (without the subs) for smaller gigs. The casing is wood in construction, making them a little heavier than plastic-bodied types, but this makes for a much better sound in my opinion. They may not be the cheapest on the block, but I always believe in paying that little bit extra for quality - and, believe me, these ARE quality! One last thing: the EV logo on the front lights up, though you can turn this off if required. It makes for a great visual indicator from the front to know that you have power but, in all honesty, at a dark lit gig, it makes them look pretty cool! Hahaha...
Absolutely Gorgeous
Having previously owned quite a few budget brand speakers I decided to treat myself but didn't want to spend a fortune on JBL. These look amazing and they sound even better. The bass response is deep and punchy and the highs are crystal clear. They are also incredibly loud and performed impeccably over a 4 hour thrashing. As others have said, just be careful not to bump them, I also bought the EV padded covers to keep them looking good.
EV ELX 112P - great sound - clear bottom end for 12inch cab
My first impression of the EV ELX 112P was, great a 12inch version of its bigger brother, this is going to mean that it is going to be lighter, but not so powerful and limited on the bottom end. HOW WRONG I WAS!!! These 1000w powered speakers are excellent for both front of house and also for probably the clearest monitor wedges I can provide for a PA system within this price range, these cabs are excellent as monitors because they have the natural shape to sit on their side! no plastic legs that stick out and break off. Also, just like their bigger brother (ELX 115P) they are ply boxes, therefore, I would advise padded cases, just to keep them looking in great condition whilst in transit. To summarise, excellent audio quality as to be expected from EV, powerful, versatile, and lightweight. If you are a sound engineer, you will not be disappointed by the quality of these speakers. They are well worth a listen!!!
very good speakers
I just wanted to add that I purchased a pair of EV ELX112P's and they are fantastic in "real life". I used them at few events and they look and sound exceptional! They were definitely loud enough for the 200 person wedding on Saturday (with room to spare). I love the built in crossover function (full range or use with sub), it makes a big difference. I don't claim these to be the best powered speakers on the market but in my opinion they are the best bang for your buck. At this price per speaker, it's hard to beat the full package this speaker provides (wood box, not too heavy, attractive design, built in mixer with rca inputs, etc). Highly recommended!!! I'll be looking at picking up a 2nd pair soon.
ev elx 112p
i took a long time checking out the competition before i decided to go for the ev´s and have to say they are an excellent piece of kit...really can´t fault the sound from these speakers, despite being only 12" they offer a surprising amount of bass response
the only downside is the wooden enclosure doesnt lend itself to life on the road, and can easily get damaged if care is not taken when transporting them..but having said that because theyre made of "real" wood and not plastic the sound is far superior...great buy, just handle with care
