Genelec is perfect sound!

Small size but very very quality sound, very clear sound. This model is very good if you like to travel or is good for small mobile studio also. 1,5 kg one monitor, good material, and very good sound!

Big sound

maximum output around 96dB SPL at 1m - a realistic listening distance for this size monitor. We were initially taken aback by how large these tiny speakers sound. Once trimmed to match our main monitors, flicking between them is audibly less dramatic than expected, though they have temporarily replaced a pair of Auratones, so we shouldn't be surprised.

The clarity in the lower end of the frequency spectrum is testament to a quality design that keeps things tight enough to easily identify mix clashes. The solid enclosure combined with a well-balanced woofer (stiffness vs flexibility) provides a fast, punchy response with no overt ring-on.

Balanced and accurate

At the top-end the 8010A have a smooth trademark, exact and free from building up. Similarly as with the low-end, there is less expansion than on substantially bigger models, however to a lesser degree, so fine modification "noticeable all around" range are harder to see.

Lovely speaker

I am simply in love with this tiny speaker. It has incredible performance for its size ? there is even some bass! I'd say it has its classic 80xx sound, but just in a smaller form factor. The sounds remain enjoyable and clean.

It feels very robust and I will not be afraid to take it on trips with me. All parts are well protected and feel high quality.

Adjustable angle a special EQ setting for tabletop use are also very handy for my setup.

My first monitors!

I can only compare these to a cheap computer multimedia system with subwoofer I had before, the old ones served me for some years and they where not too bad for listening music, practice and even work on some demos but just the quality build of these Genelec made my old speakers look like toys.

They are very loud, clear, crisp and I think more than enough for my room, I could not imagine how much bass can they deliver for their size!

There are some settings to cut some Db in the overall output and in the bass response, and a standby mode that can be disabled as well.

The only thing that is a bit odd is that if you place them over a table even with the supports included the cables coming out from the XLR plugs are a bit forced to stay in an angle. There are other mounting options with vesa and also using a microphone stand.

Amazing tint speaker for very small rooms

These monitors arrived two days a go, I was blown away with clarity, I can hear everything.

If you are mixing in tiny room, or big cupboard, these are for you.

I have never had Genelec before, and I am astounded at the sound and quality, I bought them for secondary references speakers, but they are better than my main ones, so I have returned them and ordered bigger Genelec 8040s, I will sell my main Eris 8 monitors.

genelec build quality, amazing sound imaging and power for the size.

Genelec build quality, built to last and fully deliver what is promised. Sold my last monitors to buy these mainly for their portability, being so light and an ideal size for any situation. Allows you to experiment in different rooms without having the hassle of carrying heavier monitors. Functional/Useful tone controls.

No complaints whatsoever about them, except for the XLR port in the back, which I was aware of before purchase and is an understandable issue due to the size of the monitors. When connected, the XLR connector of my cables is too long so it touches the table and leaves the cable under some stress so I had to position the monitors on top of something and leave it at the edge to minimize the stress on the cable. This can easily be fixed by just buying other cables which are more flexible and have a smaller body.

Highly recommend these monitors to anyone, amateurs or professionals, if you're not working full-time or long term in a room, these allow great mobility and the best sound you'll ever hear for a monitor this size.

I'm a Genelec fanboy so this review is totally biased.

You might argue that you can get bigger speakers for this amount of ¤, covering a bigger spectral range (namely on those lows, seeing as how the woofer on these babies is only 4.5"), and you'd be right. You might argue that yamaha and adams and other such brands make really good speakers for cheaper, and you may even be right about that, too. But damn, these speakers sing to me. They are really clear, have amazing acoustic resolution, a nigh-on flat curve and they're really small and light (1.5 Kg) which means you can bring them with you on a plane! AND they're loud. Like really loud. Not that I blast them but you'd be surprised at the punch these beasts pack.

Great little speakers, well built and crystal clear. I felt the need to supplement them with a bass woofer though because there was insufficient bottom for my needs. They are great if you're short of space or want to travel around with them (which I do) but if they're your main monitors you'll need something larger or add a woofer.
