Loud and Portable

the speakers are loud and of sturdy build ! I needed a second pair because i am commuting a lot between uni and home and i was getting tired of moving my Hs 7's everywhere i go. The small size of the speakers makes them portable, but this also results in a lack of bass. I enjoy these speakers more for my DJ setup, as i find that mastered tracks sound really good on them. The lack of bass however makes it really difficult to design basses, and i often end up with tracks that are way to loud in the low-mids. I mainly use them in the living room when preparing for a set and they even serve well for small home parties. For me their portability is their main appeal, and i carry them with me to where ever i stay.

Small but MIGHTY

Have been using this compact studio monitor for 4 years now.

If you are looking for a compact neutral sounding monitor with a big sound, I would recommend this small Genelec.

Fantastic for the size

well worth the money for their size I use these in my carry on luggage when I'm travelling and I'm very happy with them. If you have someone to check the subs you can even mix on them would recommend. Best of all the sound like Genelecs just without the bass

Incredible sound of small size monitors

Pros

Those familiar with the bigger and more expensive Genelec monitors attest to the similarity of the smaller 8010's sonic quality. Many also commented that ear fatigue is not an issue with this speaker, thanks to its low distortion performance and its clean mids and highs. Portability was also seen as a plus for some users who do mobile recording setups or want to mix on familiar speakers away from their own studio.

Cons

Obviously, the low end will lack but it can get the job done for most music types. Those who need more bass can add a studio subwoofer.

Overall

Most people think big studio when they hear Genelec but the brand challenges that notion by offering a small but surprisingly clear and versatile monitor speaker. If you're looking for a portable studio monitor, or if you have a small studio space to work with, the Genelec 8010 is highly recommended.

no comment for sound quality

build solid even hard condition and feature and sound crystal clear and they are small with big sound and either than that small like you need so this is portable and flexible and for the sound impressive even you don't have a great room just you will need a sub for more bass but in general no comment , i can go every where with them never make you mad . Genelec is legend in studio monitors .

I like em,they are great! they are quality!

They lack low-end though, they are a little harsh somewhere in the mids/highs.

These would end up giving me fatigue compared to Adams or Eves.

I have been testing other speakers in the same size comparison, and I ended taking up the Adam A3X's when comparing them, also with the Eve sc203's (the Eves are great but they have a limiter on them which ruins everything for me, and they lack a little low-end compared to Adams A3X)

I have my own proper studio room and it's treated, and I have tested all three of them, both from my own ears and through the room testing microphone.

They are great for professional use, they are real quality and they are flat, perfect for mixing/mastering/production purposes, but would be much better with a sub though.

Would recommend these for anyone looking to make music and mix/master in a small room, obviously with room treatment.

First off these are my first set of studio monitors so this review will be more informative than a comparison. Perhaps someone will find these info useful.

I find them excellent for small studio monitors. Sound is excellent, I got them to get as unaltered sound as possible from recorded music and I can hear much more in the songs I've listened to for 30 years than before. (I don't produce music.)

Info: mine stand literary in the corner on my desk and there is no problem with bass reflections. They are >extremely< directional, as in you really have to sit in the sweet spot, a lean on the chair and the sound changes (wchich for me is great as the back brick wall is literary 30 cm behind my head and I have no problem with back reflections). The bass is good but expect no miracles, the cone diameter is what it is and they don't exactly bend the laws of physics.

I love the auto-power on/off feature, no finnicky switches that make you unwillingly reposition the speaker or stains or wear/tear problems - set them up once and enjoy. Small, look nice, grey so dust is not so visible as on black, come with rubber stands so no additional ugly foam necessary (wife-approved :) ) Heavy and sturdy, built like a tank (metal chassis).

The best compact size studio monitor!!

I previously used BX5, KRK5, Presonus E5 at home for mixing works when not being in studio, those are much cheaper and I had a doubt before deciding to get this as the price is a bit higher for similar size speakers. HOWEVER, IT"S WORTH IT!!!!

I arrange pop, rock, r&b, jazz music and I m a guitarist. I would say it may not be a choice if you are looking for something with enhanced bass or using it for entertainment, as you may find it not very much coloured the tone, but if you are looking for something sounds very detailed, tight, clean bass, clear lines so you can do mixing working, go for it !

Great small room monitor - wouldn't trade it for anything!

It's been couple of years I'm enjoying this wonderful pair of speakers and I wouldn't trade them for anything. When I first bought them I was living in a very small room and needed something to make some demo tracks but finally, I ended up mixing some short films and I was pleasantly surprised with the results once I checked the work in a real surround film studio. The calibration settings available on the speaker itself can make a huge difference in the battle against reflections but in the end, it's the room that counts.

However, I think that the price is more than reasonable and also considers these monitors as a great investment for aspiring sound engineers as once you get used to them they can become a powerful reference to carry around other studios and compare the sound reproduction systems.

Also, for relatively small rooms, it makes little sense to get a bigger speaker as the low-freq response is pretty impressive on these, and once you move to a bigger space you can add the subwoofer to complete your spectrum.

Little Marvel

I bought this monitor for the digital piano (Korg D1) and I can't be more satisfied.

Sound quality and sound customisation options are just great, so is the build quality. Speaker fits nicely on my piano top, the rubber Iso-pod stand provides great tilt control. Aluminium enclosure is sturdy and well made, dark grey looks premium.

I also love that these monitors are entirely made in Finland, no offshore asian production.

I will definitely buy another one. And maybe even more for amplifying home audio.

Quality and portability

I was originally thinking about buying something larger from Yamaha in the same price range, but a coworker of mine, recommended these. I wasn't sure if they would pack a decent punch or have enough bass, but I can say for sure, they do, even in the bass department! The sound is quite clear.

These things feel great build-wise, definitely quality. Also very compact, which is one of the reasons I bought them. If you need to travel, then these monitors won't be a big burden on you.

Mixing with them is quite nice. They won't be making the process difficult for you, if you've set them up nicely.

Sound is great irregardless if you use them to practice, compose, listen to music, etc. etc.

The only thing that one might want some more of is bass. I believe there's a matching sub, if one is interested.

Overall couldn't be happier.

Great sound in small form factor

These were my first proper monitors, and with limited space they fit my needs perfectly. More punch in the low end than I expected. Using them mainly with my modular, but also listen to a lot of music with them in general.

Very high quality

Love the size and sound of these. They are very small. I would recommend using a sub with them if you want to mix more electronic dance-y stuff. But for general purpose media and editing they are excellent.

I expected less

I expected less from the monitors of this size. The are perfect for a small space, they precision of sound is just awesome!

Quality

Genelec 8010: i was afraid that they will be to small, with no bass, and only medium sound quality due to it's appearance.

But i was totally wrong: they have absolutely enough bass, and sounds perfect. I really recommend them for desktop usage, perfect for near field listening. Currently i only use them with Dragonfly Red, but to be honest i am not sure whether i want to upgrade the DAC/Sound card, because i do not think there would be a significant change on listening experience. I really love these tiny rocks...
