Happy
Great delivery time ordered over Christmas and it was here before New Year. Does exactly what I wanted, and much warmer than I had hoped, I would recommend this product.
The speaker is almost a Celestion g12t 75. no problems at high volumes ..the bass is a little bit loose but its an open cab .i run two cabs with a fender vibrolux 1968 and they sound pretty descent...you can't beat that price ..for practice or live just turn it up!!!
Rwally good box for a low budget
It is a really cheap guitar speaker, so I was not thinking about something very professional. But I can say it nearly is. The robust housing is very good, it will never break or something. The sound is so dynamic, for its price is gorgeus. For an affordable guitar box, it is the best buy.
Nice Sound
This is a cheap and cheerful cab. I use it in my set up at home for practicing. It is small enough to stay in my sitting room and gives me a nice warm sound that I am very happy with.
It's a nice cabinet for the money, if you are on a low budget. Also you have the option to load it with a higher quality speaker later.
Excellent value cabinet
I use a Kemper and a Laney IRT-X (an FR power cab/monitor fitted with a couple of small-ish speakers) and was looking for a cabinet with a larger 12" speaker to make sure I wouldn't be drowned out by the drummer, the bass player and the other guitarist's 2x12" combo amp for a pub sized gig.
The HB cabinet did an admirable job - it sounded great from the start and it certainly didn't feel like the speaker needed breaking in. The cab is light (it has an open back) and well put together but doesn't feel, or sound like a cheap derivative.
Other 1x12 cabs are typically double the price of this, possibly due in part to being fit with branded speakers, but you can pick up the model with 'Vintage 30' speakers for a very reasonable price. If I find myself playing larger venues I may well order the 2x12 Harley Benton Vintage in future. If I had no neighbours and if my partner were deaf I'd immediately order the 4x12 V30 version...
Great value for money
These were used with various amps including a stereo Crate powerbock, Orange Tiny Terror and a Calibre 22 pedal and delivered good sound. A robust open back cab with a good quality speaker making this a pretty good piece of kit for those on a tight budget
Does what it says on the tin!
I bought this to pair up with my VHT Special 6 Head. Its very well priced and is simple and unassuming in its design. It sounds good but not phenomenal but, for the price, you'd be hard pushed to find much better. Its worth noting that once the speaker was 'broken in' it sounded much better. Its very solid in its construction, nothing rattles and the finish is very good. I primarily used this at home but did get to a couple rehearsals with it and it held its own against the other guitarists much more expensive gear. I would recommend this if you are on the lookout for a cheap, no frills cab.
For the price, this is a good cab
I was looking for a simple cheap cab for home practice, as I didn't want to keep lugging my Zilla 2x12 to and from the practice studios. This cab produces a nice enough tone for the money, especially with clearer sounds, although I found the heavier, more distorted sounds are a bit harsh. The build quality seems good, and is nice and light to carry. I would certainly recommend to friends.
wonderful little practice amp
pretty good piece of equipment! great for practicing at home but at louder volumes, it seems to suffer from a lack of bass and kind of fizzles out when you try to use distortion. for these reasons, i wouldn't recommend using it live without a mic.
but for home/bedroom purposes, it's light, hassle-free and does exactly what it should at a low cost.
Anyone call for a cab?
Edited after using the cab live a lot :-)
There are many better cabs out there, but none for the money. If you aren't a gear snob or tone hound and have realised that probably 99% of your audience really don't give a monkey about the nuance of sound but just want to dance like loonies and don't want to wince with any harshness in the sound.
Welcome to my world. Boutique cabs cost more before they start earning. My gear has to earn. I needed to reinforce our sound. Not 'make louder' but reinforce.
Combo on a beer crate behind me, extension cab on the other side of the stage on a beer crate. I'd been borrowing a Marshall 50watt combo + 1x12 which sounded no better. If we need louder, we mic up.Seems gear snobs and thieves like Marshall. I'm HB-80R+ this cab now and we still sound AWESOME! for less than the cost of just the stolen cab.
Construction wise, it classes as adequate. It's an MDF chassis and mine had a footprint on the inside...Who cares! It is adequate. Interesting to note how the audiophile hi-fi lot used to witter on about how much better the sound from MDF cabinets compared to ply was, yet in the guitar world, MDF is treated as a joke. There's MDF and mdf I guess. This passes muster for MDF as opposed to barely compacted wood dust in glue.
The speaker has no identifying marks on mine. It makes a sound. Not a very nice one at first, but run full power for 10 minutes and it smooths out.
EDIT
It has now spent some hours making some very high volume levels indeed, and those volume levels have been unperturbed by unwanted cabinet colouration or speaker distortion. Think of it as running the cone in, like you'd an old engine that'd been reconditioned. As it has softened up, so has any brittleness about the edges of the sound. The speaker is a good match for the Celestion Seventy/80 in the combo. Less bass and perhaps a little harsher but nothing of consequence. There are no strident overtones or pockets of missing frequencies, just a damn fine sound. No nasal honkiness when chunking and chopping either.
The cab is open back and reflex ported. There are no tubes, but is ported. This is a hint. You can place the cab near a wall or even gaffa stiff card at a pinch to make it a closed back. Bass beefs up as a result.
Same with open back combos. Make a closer for tighter bass.
The corner guards aren't fitted too neatly, but really, it makes a nice sound so who cares?.
For playing with amp heads for practice. As a cab, as an amp extension speaker, you'll not get better without spending big coin. The Vintage model may be more refined, but this has cojones. If you sip tea from a cup, go vintage model. Me?, I gulp from a mug
Harley Benton G112 Cabinet Review
Amazing cab for the price. Used at home to tone build and prepare for playing live. Great volume, great size, good weight, fairly easy to pick up/move/handle, very good sound - especially for the price - and overall great for what I needed. Just needed a small cab at home to jam out on and bring out on tour incase we needed it last minute due to breakage/lack of organisation but never had to use it anywhere except in my house. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for what I was, a small and cheap cab just to jam out on and perhaps tone build/check tones etc.
An ok Cab if you need one quick
I was in a fast need of a small cab to do home practices before upgrading. I took a chance on this and it was ok. The Speaker wasnt great so dont expect a V30 sound. Was quite Fizzy sounding but was made pretty solid
Light weight and very clear sounding speaker cab
Light weight but tough cab. This open backed cabinet has a very clear and biting sound - perfect for Fender and clean sounds, but a bit fizzy and trebly for high gain. When paired with a high gain Marshall you have to dial the presence/treble right off or use an EQ pedal in the FX loop. Better than many cheap cabs that are too dark and neutral sounding. Easy to replace the speaker.
Harley Benton G112
This review is written with considerable regard to the low price I paid. It is unlikely that you would find an empty speaker cabinet at this price. That said, the fitted speaker, is not to be sneezed and sounds nice. I have used this as a guitar cabinet for my Fender Bassman head and it has done well in producing a clean vintage sound. Build quality is good, with thinnish but perfectly serviceable vinyl covering. No annoying rattles or shoddy workmanship. It is fairly lightweight and looks presentable on stage. Open back, which suits most guitarists these days. Excellent value for money and highly recommended.
absolutely surprised
Well, I was looking for a cheap 1x12 cabinet for my bedroom.
So I've orderd the Harley Benton G112.
Out of the box, the cabinet works well with my Mesa Boogie Mini Rectifier, but
it sounds very thin. So I modified the cabinet, by closing the open back.
I was very surprised, now the sound came very punchy through the chinese
1x12 speaker.
Well, after this modification the cabinet sounds a bit like a Celestion G12/T75.
I've tested the cabinet with my amps, and it works very well with the Mesa
Mini Rectifier, the Orange Tiny Terror.
In my opinion, you get a very good cabinet for blues, rock and metal.
Thumps up for the G112
Cheap Box that does what it promises
I bought the box to use it at home with my Marshall JVM410H Head. I knew it would not sound as big as my 4x12 JCM900 Box in the rehearsal room, but it does sound good even at low volumes and even the lows are pretty good.
The workmanship is very good too. There is nothing to complain about. Nothing rattles, everything is even and the skin is neatly glued.
When I bought a a Orange Micro Terror I tried to use it with the G112 too, but that amp seems not to be that good. It sounds a bit to harsh.
For home use it seems to be a pretty good choice. For live or recording i would choose another.
Overall I am very satisfied with the box!
Bargain!
I use this as an extention cab to my Peavey Bandit. Cant fault it for the money. In fact i would go as far as to say it has a better overall sound than the speaker in my Bandit.
A must for the money, dont know how they do it!
Harley Benton G112
I needed a small budget concious easy to carry speaker cabinet to connect to my Blackstar HT5R in small music making situations and it does the trick very well. :-)
