Harley Benton G112 Reviews
Metal? YES
I've bought this Amp and use it with a Joyo bant amp Zombie and its a BEAST on every aspect related to the AMP.
- Clean tones? Rich and dinamic
- Overdrive and distortion tones? Heavy and delicious. When used with a tube screamer and the gain its about to "break" from clean to a distorted with single coil, its a honey pot.
- Disgustinly loud if you want it to.
I can understand that maybe someone would want the one with a vintage celestion one, but let me tell you that this one does the job and does the job GOOD.
Build quality its also very decent/good. Couldnt find any flaw on it.
Im just a satisfied customer after triying it.
Recommended.
LOOKS NICE FOR THE PRICE
I have this cab for a year now and i have no issues with it...
Give me clean tones and acceptable overdrives and distortion with good effects...
I bought this cabin for double purposes: first, to hook to my guitar amp and 2ndly (with a couple brilliant tweeks) as center speaker in my living room 5.1 setup. So i can choose between these two functions through a switch. Sounds good both ways.
I could replace the the speaker later but it's doing a good job right now.
The built quality is very good no remarks there, i just closed the back of the cabinet with a multiplex plate i made myself.
Bang for Buck
Perfect lightweight 1x12 cabinet. Pairing it with my Revv D20 head produces great tone. Real Celestion Vintage speaker for an insane price. No-brainer purchase for anyone who needs a 1x12 cabinet.
Surprised by the quality
I bought this to use at home with my Mooer Little Monster AC, expecting to replace it at a later date and use the cabinet to install a home built 18 watt tube amplifier, and I fully expected to get the quality of sound I had paid for.
Well I am really surprised at how good this sounds just as it comes. There's plenty of dynamic range, transients are handled gracefully and the bottom end is tighter than I would have expected, especially in an open-backed speaker.
Yes, the cabinet is made of a composite (so are Marshalls) and yes it is glued, rather than screwed together. There is some untidiness in the finishing of the glue inside the cab where it can't be seen, and you only get one jack socket so you can't chain speakers together, but this costs less than many speakers without a cabinet.
From the outside the finish is fine, has reasonable corner protection and tidy grill cloth. Overall this is a bargain, and has the added bonus of being roomy enough to take an amplifier inside AND a long Accutronics reverb tank (if you felt inclined to do a little woodwork).
I think I might get another to build my Bluesbreaker home-brew amp into.
Good product at an affordable price
I have been using this cab for quite a while now with a jetcity 22h and have no complaints. The sound is good and you can upgrate in the future with another speaker Recomended
Excelent for the price! Great choice
Excelent for the price! Great choice
Could be better, off course, but for the price point you can't get better.
Very useful and practical
Can't get better guitar speaker for this amount of money.
I have orange rockerverb 50 and i use this speaker for smaller gigs instead of orange 4X4 cab. very practical for smaller gigs!
Solid and light
...but 1/4" jack at the back of the cab is plastic and easy to break.
It happened to me 2 times :(
No complaints, great value.
I have been using this cab for quite a while now with a 5w tube head and have absolutely no complaints. Bought with Intention of upgrading speaker at some stage but see no need to now as I don’t find myself missing anything in the sound. I play for my own pleasure so cannot comment on use for gigs etc. Having played for 30 years plus I try not to be seduced by the badge on a piece of equipment but to trust my ears and if it works it’s a keeper. This is a keeper.
Good not too costly
Bought this wanting something not too costly and this fit all i needed, sounds really good and i am happy.
All i could ask for.
Looking for a cheap open-back 1x12 cab?
Well, this is not a bad choice, not at this price anyway.
I've used this cab with its original speaker mainly with Harley Benton and Epihone 5W tube amps. It was fine.
I've also used this cab with several speakers like Tonkers (8 and 16ohm versions), Scumbacks (H55 and H75, both 100W) and louder amps like Super Leads. Again, if you are an open-back guy/gal and you're on a budget, that will do the trick but do not expect miracles.
I don't own it anymore but I remember I never had any issues with rattling etc (but on the other hand, I used to play really loud so, there you have it).
Would I buy it again? Yes if I was after a very cheap open-back 1x12.
The Harley Benton G112 is good for the price. If your looking for a sound that's kinda bassy and really packs a thump then this is what you might be looking for, especially for the price. pro: its a good enough cab for the price and has a pretty good tone. con: not much bad to say about it other than it doesn't have a vintage 30 in it but besides that the cab I got had a small dent on the front top right corner. But all and all it's a good cab for the price.
What more could you want?
I got this to use as a cabinet for a Joyo BlueJay banTamP, mostly for practice and playing at home.
I'm still working on breaking the speaker cone, but right away it's a huge upgrade from the 8" PA speaker I'd been using in the meantime. The tone is bright and open, while still sounding full, as opposed to the boxy sound that I had before.
I'm mostly using it on a pretty low volume (BlueJay's gain at noon, volume between 8 and 9 o'clock), but of course I had to crank it up to see how it handles and it did not disappoint.
Pros:
- Inexpensive
- Sounds great
- Not too heavy
Cons:
- Construction feels a bit cheap. Haven't tested durability (and don't plan to, this thing is staying home with me), but tolex feels thin and the handle and corner guards don't seem like they'd hold up too well against a bit of regular abuse. Still, for the price I'd gladly make those concessions for how it sounds.
Cool cab.
Plugged it to my Egnater Tweaker 40. Works perfect!
Great affordable cab.
I needed a spare cab, bought this and its great.
It has an open back so lags slightly in the bass department but nothing a quick fiddle with your EQ won't sort out. It's a solid build, held together with screws glue and binding so nothing rattles. You're not going to find anything better until you hit about £200 on top of the price of this cab. Buy it.
Great box for a great price
Cheap But Good
Well, what can you say about this cab. For the money it is really good, I am sure you could buy a better 1 but at a much higher cost.
I would recommend this to anyone that only has a 8" cab to play though great upgrade.
Decent Practice Cab
Bought this about 2 1/2 years ago to pair up with a Randall RD1 for practice. Since then it's been kicked back & forward between mine & a mate's garage a few times, even surviving sub zero temperatures, plagues of insects & the occasional rat!
Sound is decent, i've seen others commenting about it sounding like a g12t 75. Having never owned a cab with one in i can't say exactly, but with the Randall dimed out & a bb preamp in front it does metal very well; lots of searing high end, abit lacking on mids, and for more bass i just stick the back up tight against a brick wall.
Handle has faired well & besides a few scratches covering is great. Open back seems to collect dead spiders & don't spill drinks down the grill cloth - not that it's been killed by beer damage, it's just a hassle to clean.
Great bang for the buck cab
Lets me first say that you're not going to find a cheaper, reliable and great sounding cabinet for this sort of money. If you are buying your first amp head and need a cheap and cheerful cabinet to go with it or if you need an extra cab to bring with you to a gig to pad out and widen your guitar sound i would strongly recommend buying one of these.
Now onto the pros and cons.
Pros:
- Incredibly good value for money
- Decent construction, its got going to mind being knocked about in the back of a van or car, well mine has at least stood up to at least 8 or 9 gigs and its not fell apart or shown any signs of major wear to the wood or construction although the tolex is a different story.
- Sounds great once the speaker has been broken in.
Cons:
- Out of the box the speaker was a little lack luster, it does need ample time to be broken in, i suggest running pink noise through it from anywhere between 3 to 8+ hours before you use it in any professional manner whether that is gigging with it or recording with it.
- The grill cloth does feel a bit cheap but its not really a con, i mean what do you expect for less then £70.
- Although the construction seems pretty rock solid the tolex they have put around it can be torn, damaged and broken pretty easily unlike some more heavy duty tolex bigger companies put around their amp cabinets. Just bringing it up a flight of stairs to my little studio and accidentally knocking it against my rounded banister cut it pretty easily, so if you want it to look pristine for as long as possible just have a bit of caution when moving it about.
TL;DR - Great bang for the buck cabinet, solid construction, break in the speaker before professional use.
