Harley Benton G212 Reviews
Amazing cab
These are amazing cabs at any price, but for this price there is literally no competition.
Great inexpensive Cab
I think this cabinet is priced out great and think it sound really good. The only reason I don't rate it higher is that I saw a video on Youtube where they said this sounds as good as the V30 speakers and I don't think it's quite the same.
Great for the money!!
The cab sounds massive and it's exactly what you would need in a beginning band or for home use. It's not Marshall ofcourse but you'll be pleasantly suprised with what you get!
Excellent cabinet
I recently got this cabinet to use with my Jet City 100HDM. I also had a G212V, but for that amp I felt it didn't sound as good. I feel this cab has a more even response than the 212V, not as much mids and no icepick highs. It compliments my amp much better since it may be high gain but not terribly high. The clean tones are clear and defined but the G212V excels in sparkling clean tones. This amp is better suited for distorted playing.
I gave a 3/5 in quality because there are a few aesthetic issues. The wrap in a couple corners doesn't overlap and you can see wood underneath, there are some scuff marks on the exterior.
Otherwise this cab is great. It is a little more well-rounded than the G212V, although the latter does have great tone depending on what you want. I would recommend this cab to anyone. Again, it excels when paired with a high gain amp but the cleans sound beautiful and warm. If I had several amp heads I could give a more thorough review of its overall tone, but unfortunately I am unable.
Good quality, great price
I have been looking for a 2x12 cab for just about a year. I just couldn't bring myself to spend the outrageous amount of money on the US made stuff. I live in Ohio. I saw Glenn Fricker demo the 1x12 vintage and knew automatically that I had found a cab. I use a Peavey XXX, it's an incredibly mid range heavy amp, so I decided to go with the regular 2x12 instead of the vintage 30 loaded cab. The all plywood construction, portability, and awesome price tag make this cab a steal. I'm still waiting on mine. The shipping department said it would be 9 days from the time it ships to my door. It's been 7 days and it still hasn't been exported from Germany according to tracking. I plan on gigging the hell out of this cab for the next few years
Solid and affordable.
It is hard to comprehend how this cab costs so little and is so well built. The side handles feel strong, the cab itself is very sturdy, the only part which gives out a little is the tolex, which is a bit soft, but hey, take a glance at the price tag! I use it with my Bugera 6260 120w amp and it really roars. There is plenty of low end that fills up the air and surprisingly the highs aren't sharp and piercing but rather musical and soft, which I enjoy very much. The midrange is also soft, very unlike the popular V30 but much akin to the G12T-75 Celestion. Though many suggested that this cab would be best for heavy types of music, I find that it sounds best on the lighter spectrum since it lacks that pronounced mid range, so sounds which are heavily drenched in distortion can get lost in the mix, get mushy. As for the cleans and light to mid overdrive it sounds great (at least to my ears)! Leads tend to sound very round, lots of clarity, none of which get lost with the increase in volume which is commendable. Clean tones are a steal, at least for me - very pristine, deep and clear, definitely some Bill Frisell there, especially if You throw in a chorus pedal. At the same time, if You put a fuzz into the mix it soars and becomes very raspy and full. The cab moves a hell of a lot of air and is plenty loud, the sheer sensation of the amount of volume it pumps out is incredible - You can feel the vibration of every note! Also, even at very high volumes the cabinet produces a clear, well defined sound that gets neither muddy nor ea- piercing.
Now, for those who want that classic rock sound - this might not be the best cabinet as the sound is a little shallow in regards to the mid range and as a result of which I tend to crank the mid control on my amp to 10 most of the time. While the sound I get satisfies me , it might not suit those who like a naturally raspier sound.
Overall, scolding this cabinet would be very silly as it costs so little and is of such surprisingly fine craftsmanship. The only letdown is that I wish that the speakers had a more pronounced mid range and that the tolex be a little tougher, but then again, at the price given it is more than understandable. Other than that it is pretty much flawless, got exactly what I expected in a sturdier package that I hoped to get!
EDIT: I've now had this cab for over two years, gigging and recording, and I'd like to retract my previous statement that it's not suitable for classic rock. I've been playing through a Bugera 1960 (which is basically a Plexi) for the past year and a half, and it sounds sublime, from Hendrix and Robert Trower to Bill Frisell to Van Halen. As for the midrange, it works great with the plexi-copy, tames those mids and ice-picky highs. Great and reliable cab!
Does the job
This cab is huge and heavy for a 2x12. Saying that, it probably protects it and definitely adds to the shape in the sound. I do recommend paying the extra and getting the vintage 30 one though. For cheap, generic speakers this cab sounds great and does the job for what you pay for it.
Best budget 2x12 by far
The Harley Benton 2x12 is the best bargain in the guitar world, bar none. The Celestions are more expensive to purchase separately but the actual cabinet is extremely high quality. Compared to similar cabinets (Marshall 1936, Blackstar HTV212) the projection, volume and thump on the Harley Benton is much, much better.
The construction is solid and extremely high standard and stands up wonderfully to gigging and practice needs - I stacked two of these with a Blackstar head for gigging and it sounded absolutely massive.
The V30s aren't to everyone's taste, but in this cab there is a huge amount of low end put out by these celebrated speakers. They have a very bold and pronounced mid range that slices through in a live mix and the treble is present; ideal for modern rock and metal styles. I actually also tried a selection of other speakers in this cabinet, most notably a pair of Eminence Greenback clones (Legend series GB128) and these are classic rock personified in this cabinet.
Obviously the closed back of the cab helps with projection and bass notes; the ohm values are switchable and the handles either side of the cab make for a very easy load in and out for venues. Recommended.
Excellent cabinet for the price
It's hard to go wrong with this if you're looking for a budget guitar cab. I've used this at home and live in small and medium sized venues, and it delivers a nice crisp and clear sound from any amp I have plugged into it, and sound quality is maintained at low and high volumes.
Very portable, has helpful handles at the sides and isn't super heavy to move around. Also looks cool flipped sideways, if you have a smaller amp that fits on top of it that way!
Good for the price
Not a bad buy for the price, however:
- the tolex/covering will not last very well on the road, i.e. it scuffs very easily.
+The construction however is okay,
+ it is plywood, not MDF.
I use it at home so will wear ok for me
Excellent
It makes noise - it sounds very good and it hasn't broken, how much more is there to say? it works just as well as any other at a fraction of the price.
Very pleased and will continue using Harley Benton products.
Good Value Cab / Very Poor Drive Units
I did buy the Harley Benton just for the cabinet & using better
quality speaker drivers. The drivers that came with this G212 are made in China (no manufacture name) and were poorly built. When first tested there was a lot of low freq. distortion / resonance - so I checked the speakers for any visual cone damage but they were fine. The problem was due to loose magnets which cause the cones to flap & the voice coils will be out of line. So the magnets are are not fixed rigidly to the cone and I guess in transportation they may work loose.
Very cheap, and a very good cab as a starting cab for modding
This cab is a winner in terms of quality of parts. Good and thick plywood, tolex cover is perfect, mono-stereo switching, good handles. I bought it to replace the speakers (I already had pc Governor and 1 pcs V30). The only thing you have to do is to remove backpanel, and apply thick layer of silicon adhesive to plywood joints as the baffle is only screwed to walls not glued thus creating rattle. After gluing it - perfect 5 star'
A reliable workhorse
I bought this cab as an upgrade to the whole of my rig, as I was buying a head to go with it and going to replace my old Roland microcube. Needless to say the difference in power of sound was astounding, with the ability to push all the air in very large rooms being suddenly available. The cab has 2 surprisingly full sounding cheap 100watt speakers, meaning you can run some very high wattage amps through it easily without taking up all of the space in the house, and combined with the closed back plywood build of the cabinet make it a very good cabinet for vintage and modern metal. This is because it picks up any changes in midrange very well and also has a very good bass response. Not so tight it sounds thin, but not so flubby it sound unfocused. It also breaks up nicely when pairing it with amps such as the Orange Micro Terror, giving good ambient bluesy tones if you throw a reverb or short delay in front of the amp. The cabinet feels as sturdy as an iron beam, and could easily withstand several good knocks and drops before needing a bit of repair work. All in all, I'd consider this a fantastic first time 2x12, as well as a very good way to test out different speakers as it has a stereo mode that allows easy A/B comparisons.
Excellent Cab For An Amazing Price
I purchased this cab back in January 2014. Since then it's done probably 200 gigs and is going strong.
I needed a cheap 2x12 speaker cabinet and this was the best priced one i could find (new or s/h).
The cab arrived in a short time and was packaged really well. The construction itself is very good and benefits from having two side handles - perfect for carrying on your own and / or loading into vehicles. The cab itself looks very smart and matches any number of guitar heads out there. The rubber feet on the bottom are good quality.
Sound wise the Cab is incredible for the amount you have spent. For rock type music this is perfect. I use the cab with several heads and it compliments them all well. The addition of being able to use the Cab in stereo is useful if you're running stereo amps.
Depending on which head I use the cab either upright (normal) or on it's side. in the latter position I think it really sounds it's best and projects great to an audience
In a nutshell this cab is amazing for the money. It's built well, sounds great and is perfect for the gigging musician on a budget. I'd reccoment it to anyone who needs a 2x12
Sounds better than my Marshall
This cab is brilliant, still csnt believe the price for it because it has such a nice sound to It. Im in a rock band and this suits me perfect and it gives me that extra body to my sound.
Before buying this cab I used a marshall 4x12 and I was worried id loose volume snd had to alter my amp but I didnt have that problem at all, it was the same loudness and has two options for imout on the back so again this is a bonus.
Really suggest this to starters and advanced users, very very well made cab and solid as anything, theres not a chance you will break this! Only downside to this cab is that its weighting in at a whopping 23kg but its made that well I dont even mind.
Im absolutely made up with my purchase and I am sure you all will be too.
A really good cabinet at a fair price.
Tested this at home, in rehersal and a couple of gigs and there is nothing to complain at. Have not tried the Celestion equipped version which seems popular. This works for me. A good investment at a cheap price.
Great Cabinet
This is a really good value cabinet if you are on a budget. The drivers sound excellent and have hefty magnets and can easily handle all volumes of playing. Facility to select impedance is a bonus.
Not cheap and nasty
I bought this a while ago and wasn't really worried about the quality nor the speakers, just it was cheaper than other "empty" cabinets out there. This was not the case it has a great sound, excellent build quality and looks cool. I fitted castors to the under side and a top handle. I have since changed the speakers to 300 watt handling only because I now use it with my JCM 800 head. Huge sound.
Pretty Good
I just got it so reliability wise I have no clue... Glad I didn't get the Vintage 30 one, since it's probably way too bright, this sounds pretty even overall, maybe just a little dark. But cool for my amp head, a Jet City JCA100H.. Been using Mesa for about 4 years now. Sold that because I wasn't getting the sound I needed from them. Although the Mesa stuff is more solid construction wise (this ain't bad at all though), this isn't much of a downgrade sound-wise... it may just be what you need, price wise it's awesome, for the price you can get a few and have backups...
