Good quality

I purchased this for my grandson. It’s easy to use and the sound on both clean and crunch are excellent. I use a Marshal As50R and for the price the HB-20R compares really well. My grandson had absolutely no problems mastering it. (He’s 10). Great.

Inexpensive does not mean cheap, as this amplifier demonstrates nicely!

Objective: To determine whether the Harley Benton HB20-R amplifier is worth buying. Materials: Guitar- Harley Benton TE-20BK (modded, ifr) Amplifier- Harley Benton HB20-R (features: overdrive channel - gain, volume, channel switch; clean channel; shared - EQ [treble/middle/bass]; reverb [return depth]; line in, line out, headphone out) Method: Playing the guitar through the amplifier to find out how it sounds Results: Testing was done with volumes at 4/10, but amplifier has been used at higher volumes. Clean- tonal variation is quite good across the range, although the 8" speaker might affect the range (especially at volumes <5/10). The guitar sounded good in at least combinations of pick-up selection and tone cut/boost. Overdrive- Again, good tonal variation, with overdrive provided by a tube emulator circuit. Up to about gain at 5/10, this circuit produces a lovely drive sound, but after that you're getting into weird pseudo-metal territory. It can be fun, but don't expect it to sound exactly like valve distortion. That said, in informal playing with the volumes higher (~7/10), the difference isn't so great. And the sound is very enjoyable. Discussion: This amplifier was bought to be used as a recording amplifier in the Sound Lounge, where very good sounds have been got from playing through it. So, this has influenced the conclusion has been influenced by this informal playing. The results are, given the price paid for this amplifier, very acceptable. Conclusion: The range of sounds achievable with this amplifier is - for the price - very good. The amplifier is sturdy, but not heavy. It is very easy to operate, and - if one is using it only for recording - the amplifier's channel lack of a footswitch is not a problem. Otherwise, pedals are the user's saviours on this matter. Is this amplifier worth buying?: Yes. Rating: handling- 5 features- 4 (lack of footswitch, small speaker) sound- 4.5 overall- 4.5

Great for beginners

Sounds good, it has a dirty distortion channel but sounds too harsh sometimes. Perfect for thrash.

Great amp

For the beginning you don't need nothing more. It is much more than I expected.

Really Preisleistung. If you are beginner in electric guitar, this is what you want to have in your small bedroom and the common room of your apartment block.

Amateur play at home dad

This is my 1st electric amp and it's paired with a SC550 and I'm delighted with the results. It's for home playing only and its plenty loud and I think the sounds, overdrive, distortion and clean, are great. I use an evil twin split HB pedal and I cant be happier.

A nice little practice amp for the money.

I play mainly acoustic but after I purchased an electric guitar I wanted a suitable amp for home use.

I mainly use it on clean and it’s great. It has more than enough sound output for playing at home. In-fact if you mistakenly turn it up too high your neighbors will probably complain.

The reverb function really adds utility and makes for some great tones.

I am very happy with my purchase since it suits my needs perfectly.

Bang for buck!

A truly excellent piece of gear for noodling at home. Of course, it's not something you would really go to a gig with, but for a beginner, or even an advanced guitarist it is truly a great deal for the money. Although it sometimes sounds "clangy", you are still able to have fun with many types of sounds that you can get out of this simple amp, even without fancy effects pedals. If you just want to noodle at home, this is the way to go!

Great. Freaking. Amp!

I am no expert in amps but I started with this amp and to be honest it's still carrying the sound very well even to this day! It is simple to use, doesn't have any WOW features on it, works very well both for practicing and performing, it has a decent size and most importantly, a decent price!

In conclusion this would be the go to amp for any beginner or even intermediate guitarist!

The jewel in the Crown.

A real beauty for clean or "not clean" sound, I never use extreme distortion, but use the "high gain" chanel for my low gain, sound hole acoustic pick up, careful adjustment of the "gain channel" will keep a clean sound at a plenty loud volume {if loud is needed}. I had enough of lack luster & expensive USB modeling guitar amps, I'm needing actual control of my amps circuit dynamics, "tone stack", I now have actual control with my HB20r. My gigs are smaller bars & cafes, 20-30 people max, rock, blues & ballads, acoustic style. This HB20r, on a chair or 1/2 a meter off the floor is just perfect, with plenty headroom if you need it. Nice bass, mid & treble controls with good range making my bunch of guitars (acoustic, jazz & humbucker) all nicely usable now. I previously plugged into my PA, but good impedance values have to be respected when using guitar/PA for a good sound. All is well sorted now I have an extra piece on stage (HB20r) and I'm certainly happy with it.

Very surprised with this little amp as 'by price', was dubious.

A very surprising little monster :-)
