Harley Benton PJ-4 HTR Deluxe Series 4-stars Reviews
Quality Bass for the price
I've played better basses, but I'm really impressed with how good this is for the price.
After setup it plays normal
Great for the price
It is a nice precision bass,PJ config, with a beautiful tone and playability. For the price and starts, it is all you need to study and develope your skills.
Amazing at this price
Really impressed.
Bought as a raffle prize for a charity event, but almost didn't want to give it away!
Smooth neck, great action straight out of the box and lots of tone options.
This would easily compete with a high end Squier or Epiphone bass all day.
Great Beginner Bass
I am a guitar player who wonders how to play bass. So checked Harley Bentons and decided to go with the PJ bass which combines P and J styles. The workmanship is great and the color is not bright red, instead it is cherryish which i love. The body and neck woods are great. out of the box setup is fine. you may consider change the pickups only in the future. it is below 150 Euros so strongly advice.
My first bass
This is my first and only bass :)
Feels good to play, and sounds good to my ears.
Get what you pay for
Needed a bass quickly. This is perfect for a beginner, or someone like me who needs an cheap instrumemt quickly where quality in sound isnt an issue......as long as you are not expecting excellence.
Its surprisingly well finished. The pickupos and pots....er...well they make noise. Its 100euro, what do you expect for 100euro?
I think its great value. you can always change out the pickups and pots...
It is tuneable and playable. needs some adjustments, but for a quick cheap dirty option its perfect.
Good price
It's overall a good bass for someone who's starting.
The finish isn't perfect and the electronics don't have the best sound in the world however, if you're just starting out on bass, or just need a cheap bass it does the job very well.
nice
value for this amount of price ,i recommend it to begginers
VFM
I bought this as an alternative to my main bass.I Used heavy gauge strings and tuned it down to C Standard. It plays well. The electronics are not the best but definitively do the job
es un bajo comodo de usar, bonito y llego en excelentes condiciones y bien cuidado, venia con las herramientas necesarias para acomodar bien el puente ademas de un cable, excelente compra
(Mostly) great build quality, extremely playable, great sound
I bought this bass mostly for my son, as he wants to learn to play. I figured, what better place to start than a P-bass, but perhaps something with a bit more tonal flexibility for when he's older. This bass nails it - great tone, great set up, really excellent build quality for the price. I mean, that's pretty much the definition of Harley Benton, with the obvious sacrifices for those prices (nickel frets instead of steel, etc...).
One issue that was quickly cured with a rubber band of all things - the low E string tuner had a REALLY annoying rattle, like the paddle of the tuner was loose in the tuner shaft. Remedied by basically wrapping the rubber band around the joint of the paddle and shaft a few times. At some point I might replace the tuners, but it's not a huge deal as it still sounds and plays great.
Got this because I'm on quite a tight budget, and it's definitely good for the price. Came with some action and fret buzz quirks but it was an easy fix even for someone like me with no prior experience just with the included set of hex keys. Holds the tuning well, neck feels quite nice, the finish is delightful. Unfortunately the lack of shielding makes it buzz if there's anything plugged in in the same room, the tone pot is unusable if it's sharing an extension cord with something like a laptop charger, and the bridge pickup is a tad weak out of the box, but nothing that can't be fixed. After three months I can say I don't regret buying it
A neat versatile beginner instrument!
First thing first, this is my first bass. I bought it in September because I wanted to learn to play bass on a tight budget. I use it mostly to play by myself and for the occasional jam session.
In short, I agree with most of the positive reviews. This is a great instrument for a beginner. It sounds in most cases really good. The bridge pickup can have too low input. That's only something I've noticed at separate times. the PJ combo is a really easy way to get a wide range of sounds. I love how the neck feels as well!
Sadly, I don't have as much control over the sound as I'd like. The tone knob, for example, is rather dull and could be more sensitive. That goes the same for the tuning mechanism, I can't seem to tune it exactly as in tune as I want it. On the other hand, it stays in-tune rather well. Also, keep in mind: the bass can be quite heavy.
To summarize: this is a great instrument to buy when you're short on cash. Just be ready to accept the eventual one or two quirks that might need fixing.
A great bass for beginners
An affordable solution for those who are about to start learning bass.
great value!
Beautiful bass, with nice sound and great build quality.
Great value for the price
Worth the price
Decent guitar especially for the price point, feels solid and plays well. Pickups above what you would expect for an under £200 bass.
It's not what you think
I would start this review with the stereotipical "it's not a Fender" thing, but I just can't. It's great.
It's easy, smooth and very well done. I wouldn't break my back playing it all night and it really doesn't need nothing more for the price.
I love the neck, which gets perfectly with the palm of my hand.
As always with budget instrument the electronics are just "enough". But, hey, you didn't buy a expensive bass, but a bass that is great choice for the money. You get more than paid.
Check the strap buttons
This feels like a good budget bass for a beginner.
However, after about one week use, the bottom strap button fell off; luckily, when setting the bass back to its stand. The other strap button was also lose and was about fall.
As nothing bad had happened, I re-screwed the strap buttons back with 4mm x 40mm wood screws (instead of the initial 3mm x 20mm).
Maybe this operation keeps the buttons from falling.
Solid PJ Bass
Bought this as my 1st PJ style bass. Still have it despite some initial issues with the electronics in it & it came in a battered box that had the tip of the headstock go thought the end of the box.
Overall for the price if your looking for a solid PJ style bass to give you your bass needs ... this is one to grab !!
