Harley Benton JB-20 SB Standard Series Reviews
If you are a rookie on bass guitar this one is the best choice for you!!
THE starter bass
First, I got this bass for my wife. Really. After the ukulele I thought it would be fun to play together (I play guitar). Second, would be great having a bass around for adding bass tracks on my blues. So the question is, does JB-20B does its job?
Pros
I recall low price basses in the 90's and 2000's feeling really cheap but this is is not what you get. Smooth, accurate, frets feel good, great for practicing and having it in the studio. Impressive quality for such a price tag.
Cons, none. You can compare the brand to other entering level brands though as happy owner of an HB Extreme-76 and Custom Line Manhattan, it's always an impressive quality for the price.
To conclude, yes it does its job so let's name this bass THE starter bass. Anyone starting playing bass or needing one for a home studio, this is the one. Congrats to Harley Benton, having such a quality for this price means more players for sure. And that is impressive.
Amazing!
Just perfect for this price!
Great sound
Great bass for entry level students. The instrument feels pretty good and comfortable and can stay tuned which is very veeeery important.
Holy Benton Bassman!
Pros:
Absolutely brilliant for the price, checked intonation etc. and it was near perfect, looks great and the neck feels good too
Con:
Frets had some sharp edges that needed attention
The Volumes and tone controls feel flimsy but after tightening them there fine.
Pick ups are ok but once you put a clean boost in the mix (I use the TC Electronic Spark Boost) it works a treat.
Honestly for the money Im very impressed and not disappointed at all just giving an honest review
Good value for the money
I am a bass player for many years and I was curious how are the things going lately with the cheap instruments. I ordered this one and I very satisfied for the money. I sent it for a set up as the frets were sticking a bit and there was a fret buzz but it is now ok and I am playing it almost every day. I has decent tone and good feel. I love the satin finish of the neck! Recommend it for anyone that is starting to play now and even for experienced players as a good bass to carry around.
Wow!
Bought this as a base to try some modifications (pickups, electronics, etc.) but for the money this is a seriously fun bass!
Sure, there are some issues, but they're minor. In my case some of the fret-ends are a little sharp and the nut isn't cut deep enough. Easy enough to fix. The pots aren't the best quality (they're more like on/off switches) but again, not a big deal.
The pickups sound really nice and deliver a good passive "growl".
Fit and finish is really nice. And the neck has a great feel.
Was pleasantly surprised to see all the cavities are shielded (paint) and even grounded. Someone was paying attention when setting up production on these basses.
So, overall I'm really pleased with this one. Specially at this price.
You get a lot more than you pay for!
Impressed
Has been long time since I had a bass, so I bought this Harley Benton JB-20 SB Standard Series after watching this review on youtube is heavy, and not perfect. Maybe I should have had bought an active bass since I am using it with VOX AP2BS amPlug 2 Bass Headphone Amplifier and with headsets lack of power, but quality good enough.
I am using Skullcandy Hesh 3 Bluetooth Wireless Over-Ear Headphones with Microphone - And sounds very weel, I tried with my Bose, but better with skullcandy
Amazing for such a small price!!
It's a perfect bass for both beginners and professionals alike!!!
excellent Bass
Quality at altitude! Grind grinding, sound and feeling excellent! A beautiful Instagram for beginners! I advise!
Really impressive instrument.
I have played guitar since the late 1960's Not professional, just love playing and tinkering with guitars. This is my 1st bass guitar. My 6th Harley Benton. All been great condition when box opened. I can't believe how much quality you get from this company. Got a acoustic coming next!!!!!!!!!!
Very fine bass-guitar for a player who'd like to try the bass at the first time.
Quality ahead of price
I've tried a couple of jazz basses in music shops (mostly squiers and fenders) before deciding if I wanna switch from a p-bass.
Since the instruments I've tried were more like intermediate to professional instruments, I wasn't expecting much for this money.
I was wrong. The bass that came looks, feels, plays amazing. It has a beautiful J-bass sound. I did it a quick setup to my taste and all I can say is that this is a totally gigable bass. The neck is slim, easy to play on, the fretwork is great too.
Definately worth the money. Awesome budget bass.
That neck at this price!
Did't expect much, but hey.. HB made the miracle againg! What a wonderfull neck! very smooth and with the right curvature for confortable playing. you got to do a good setup though, so the strings wont treble.
Good beginner's bass.
Needed setup. Has a very light body, so has lots of neckdive. Feels cheap also. But plays good, sounds good, looks good and is extremely affordable.
considering the price of the bass, it is incredible! I have been using it for a few months now and its still in incredible shape unlike some other basses that you can get for this price.
the only problem that i had is that the AUX plug started getting weaker and jiggles when i plug in my chord. but that can be easily fixed.
GROOVY!!!
This is an amazing bass guitar for its price. It has no back noise and comes with good quality strings. Just amazing.
Solid bass
Overall, a very solid bass for beginners, or someone who simply needs to record a bass part for a demo etc. Very easy to be scared by the low price, but in this case, it is better quality than the price suggests
Great bass guitar
Bought this to start playing bass as I was ''volunteered'' into playing bass in my local school staff band. Didn't know much about bass guitars but as a guitar player I could recognise a good instrument when I see one. This bass is a fine instrument and for the price? unbelievable. It played well out of the box, although after I give it time to settle, I will try to tweak it to get the action lower. I might try some lighter strings. I can't find a bad mark on it, really well made.If I got on well with the bass guitar, I was planning to sell it and get something better. I think I might just keep this one instead.
very very playable
Just unboxed my latest Harley Benton birthday bass. to be honest , i was expecting a little less. having read the reviews i was expecting something that was just "ok" ! while it does have its minor issues ,Namely slightly crackly pots and the odd unfinished fret edge , they are so minor i feel petty mentioning them. this bass is very very playable, the neck is fast and the action is beautifully low out of the box. the sound is to my liking , sure you will get a better sound for more money , but hell its far far from shabby ! the finish is faultless (and trust me i have had a magnifying glass on it). It's not a top end bass , it doesn't pretend to be, but what a fun guitar ! I have marked 5 stars across the board because for what it is honestly marketed as and the price , it exceeds what i was expecting.
