This had to be held in the bell with my left hand whilst playing it, but sounds very good. Probably the best practise mute if you don't want electronics like the new Yamaha system. If anything, it enhances the tone and attacks after removal. But blown hard it does buzz a lot, so the volume reduction is not fantastic. WHY did they stick slippery rubber or foam on the joint of this mute.... it's nearly a great product. I heard some Americans re-cork it as soon as they get them with a shaped cork. These mutes were designed by Don Maslett and it's good to see them still made excellently in Germany by Voigt, with the adjustable centre tube. There is a shaped aluminium version still sold under the Wallace brand to try instead which fits, but that affects the tuning a little.

Having used this mute for a while now, it has opened up a lot of opportunities for me to practice. The mute does its job well, the sound becomes very soft, there's a little bushing inside that constrains the sound even more, you can remove it and it will give you a little more airflow and a little more volume. Which is a neat feature. With the bushing inside, the airflow is noticeably affected, the resistance is fair for a practice mute, I struggle a bit in the higher octaves with this mute but overall I am happy with it. Though the rubber band is starting to dry out already and showing cracks, which is a little unfortunate but it still functions well after 2 years. All in all satisfactory.

I bought the best brass muter for the practice in the office during lunch break. A long time I was on the lookout for a way to play in my lunch break trumpet without disturbing anyone. So I came to Best Brass Muter. The Muter is very stable, yet it weighs very little. That was important to me to avoid an imbalance. The sound is of course not ideal. In part I have problems in the high lying, this I did not without the Muter. But this is clear and i dont worry avbout it! But all in all, he is the perfect companion for the evening or to practice in the office! Kind regards!

I have been using this mute for over a month now. Playing the trumpet in a city house has its limits, your parents patience and the neighbors complaints. I bought this as i wanted to play as often as i could, and also, to play past midnight. Many people have done reviews on these and you can find them online in both video and writing format. From a beginners perspective, this mute is awesome (especially if what you are looking for is volume reduction). The sound timbre and pitch of the notes are not affected by the resistance created by the mute. The resistance to volume reduction ratio is superb and this is probably a best buy for someone who is looking for volume reduction as a primary criteria. The Sssshmute is both light and sturdy which makes it easy to use and carry around. Go and...

I'm a complete beginner and needed to pick up a basic mute. Did plenty of research and settled on this one; personally I'm really happy with it and my teacher also thinks it's pretty good. I use this probably twice a week when I need to be quiet and it works well. Obviously it's tougher to play with a mute and it's harder to keep practicing for a long time but that's to be expected with a mute anyway. I feel like it gives a good workout! Anyway it's nice and quiet, sound wise I'm happy with it and would recommend it.

Was looking for a new keychain when I came upon this. This actually saves me carrieng a practice mute with me. It really does work and dampen the sound of my trumpet a lot. When using with a mouthpiece, it dampens, but only slightly. Allways a blast when I pull out a tiny mute, and it actually works. Really grabs the attention of my collegue musicians! Pro: - looks good - dampens good when used with harmon mute - multifunctional cons: - loud when used with mouthpiece - attachment cord seems a bit weak.
