USB DAW Controller

Not like a toy
What I love about this controller is it does not look like a toy. It looks like a legit center piece for the studio because of its meter bridge. The body is solid construction. The buttons are programmable but to stiff for me sometimes I find it difficult to press. The faders feels long (which I like) but it makes noise when reading automations so when I have to record when adding things on my mix, I have to turn the automation off.
A Fantastic piece of Studio Gear.
I bought the Qcon Pro X for my home studio set-up.
The Controller is a really solid, well built piece of gear.
I use an iMac and run Presonus Studio One. The Qcon connected seamlessly. As an optional extra I bought the Studio One Metal Panel, which allows the unit to Auto select Mackie Control. The metal panel looks great, but the Qcon comes with plastic overlays for most popular Daws.
The Qcon has a high quality feel to all the Faders, knobs and switches.
I really like the idea that you can purchase up to three expansion units, something I may well consider in the future as the need arises.
In conclusion, for me the unit is perfect, I have nothing negative to say about it.
excellent studio addition
The perfect addition if you prefer 'out of the box' control of your DAW software
Takes a bit of setting up but once sorted works flawlessly
Take car with protools
Here are the biggest bug that I have identified with pro tools:
- When you selects one of the these buttons " : Send A, B, C, D, E , fader flip , read , write , cmd, shift, The pro XS extension didn't follow the qcon prox . It always stay in Pan Mode …
- The first led of the peakmeters (-22dB) remain lit on some tracks randomly while there is absolutely no sound in this track.
- The screen below is useless because the indications are fixed with channel numbers. But these channel numbers are not the chanel numbers of protools, they are just chanel numbers determined based on the selection of the Icon Pro XS expansion number on power up. Problem in addition: if you install in the following order your machines from left to right (2 extensions Icon pro XS then an Icon pro X and then one more extension Icon pro XS , exactly as on the photo of your site) You can not display channel numbers from 25 to 32 on the last extension. So on the one hand the screen is useless but in addition the few indications on it is wrong.
- The faders , when there are on nominal volume (0 db) on protools , are juste between two bars on the icon pro . It’s really strange.
- There are no access to the send F, G, H, I, J .
- In Fader Flip mode , when you selects Send A,B,C,D,E … , names of the tracks disappears. It's really ridiculus , because as you see nothing, you can't send in the "sends" without knowing the name of the track.
- The master fader and master peak meters doesn’t work with protools. I know it’s because of the HUI protocol but I’m surprise that nobody can do a script to fix it ?
Good quality
Great product. Great features ... Faders made super and go smoothly. The construction is metal. I'm working on Cubase and this is MUST HAVE product.
Advantages:
There would be a lot to list here, but there is a lot of reviews on the forums. I will just say that this product behaves very user-friendly.
Disadvantages:
Regarding the firmware version (currently I have 1.15, and the latest is 2) some buttons compared to the factory have changed and I had to order from iCON a new panel from China. They say it's free, but when it comes to shipping, it costs $ 30. I think iCON could do it a bit differently. For now, there is still a problem with the volume display on the stereo-out channel.
No More Icon Stuff
I ordered Icon Qcon Pro X a little bit more than a year ago after watching several videos and reviews. It looked really great 'cause of its features and price. I got it fast, packed well with manual, driver, cables and some templates for different DAWs.
The first impressions was awesome. Icon Qcon Pro X was well-built, heavy (in a good way) and made of steel. It had three displays - one with a timecode/bars/seconds, one with the number of tracks and the most useful one with everything you need from titles of tracks to EQ settings. I could easily update software and connect it to Logic Pro. Fader were quite noisy but worked well enough for the price.
Unfortunately, after half a year of using (not even often) Qcon Pro X started to behave strange. The first thing was that the master fader stopped working at all. Sometimes the fader thought that my finger is on (blue light was always on) and didn't let me change the volume neither in DAW nor by fader (it just got off sync with DAW). Sometimes it just didn't move. But that was OK 'cause I decided just not to use it at all (used an output volume on my sound interface instead). After a year it started to freeze every 5 minutes. The only decision is to close and re-open DAW and reboot Icon. You can't do it every five mins!
Unfortunately, there's no service center in Russia. The Icon's help center didn't answer and forums never helped. Though, as I realise now, the problem is not rare at all. Now my Icon Qcon Pro X is completely unusable.
I would recommend to look for maybe more expensive but reliable brand and DAW controllers.
Good looking functional daw controller
Pros:
a nice daw controller with everything laid out in intuitive order great for programming automation, selecting/arming/grouping tracks, quickly recording, motorised faders look cool as do the level meters which are very useful
Cons:
the faders aren't quite as smooth in use as i would have liked and feel a bit cheap as do the panning controls
Overall:
the unit itself is built like a tank and definitely looks the part, when i got it the motorized faders would tick quietly when not in use but it seems to have been mostly resolved through a firmware update where you can adjust the sensitivity.
if i'm honest as a piece of equipment it's not really a necessity but once you get used to it it becomes intuitive to the point you miss it when not in use, it's aesthetically good looking but it's debatable weather or not it's actually needed, although if you like tactile control then this is a good unit, i guess it depends on how you like to work but overall i'm happy with it as it does what i need it to with minimal fuss and looks great sat on the studio desk
Inside Out of the Box.
I was looking for a sturdy fader port to work with and the Icon Pro X delivered. It is very easy to use, though it sometimes snags when prosessing info from the computer. This is the only down fall. Otherwise, this tool has helped me work faster, control automation smoothly, create a mix with better organization, and it gave me a complete handsfree on feel that a mixing console would give.
Plus the quality is great! It is built to last. The faders are smooth, and all the knobs and buttons are tightly fixed.
A true pleasures to work with in my home studio!
