IK Multimedia iLoud MTM 5-stars Reviews
I've had these speakers for about 3 and a half years now and I'm still very happy with them. I use them in an untreated room (unfortunately) but the integrated room correction feature helps mitigate these issues. There are of course persistent bass nodes in my room which no speakers alon can fix so that's why I use reference tracks and check my mixes on other playback systems. These monitors get me most of the way towards getting a good mix though so I highly recommend them.
Great Studio Speakers!
Amazing monitors for smaller rooms, also good for 5.1 mixing.
Amazing!
I got these iLoud MTM's blind, just decided on them based off of reviews and I am very impressed.
They sound great right out of the box and once calibrated, have exceptional detail in the mid range and top end as well as having a hell of a bass response for such small monitors.
I am setup in a small room, with a few DIY panels, far from acoustically optimal, but with the calibration I feel I can trust these within only a few weeks of use.
Highly recommend!
My rating for the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM - Borislav Gradev
One friend of mine who is a professional music engineer told me about these speakers, it was my first time hearing of them. After a small investigation I decided to purchase them mainly because of the calibration option because I am renting a place at the moment and I am not able to treat the room acoustically. I have them for almost one year and I have to say that these are the best speakers in this price range that I've heard. Also the options on the back of the speakers give you the freedom to match them to your room even if it's not treated. Not to mention the bass is also really good for the size of them. Small speakers with huge sound, just amazing !
Awesome speakers for not treated room
Awesome monitors if you need good sound in not treated room.
Fast calibration awesome mids, awesome stereo.
Really quiet (Clipping on medium volumes). Rear ports makes noise. You WILL HEAR IT.
Low Cuts
40Hz- you can't use it. Literally every second track will produce rear ports noise. It sounds like a list of paper wobbling. NO USE IN MIXING
50Hz- usable but every 10-th song produce rear ports noise.
60Hz- no problems but no base.
By the way, if you don't mix or don't listen to bass heavy music, I don't think you will hear any rear port noise. But for most genres you will notice it.
For mixing stereo and mids it is awesome tool. If you want to control bases you need additional speakers or headphones for 20-80 Hz. Or Sub. With update MTM have 80 Hz cut. So you can use Subwoofer to compensate this spectre.
My favorite monitors
It was my best offer, really amazing speakers! Love it so much!)))
True Pros. Amazing value for the money!
I work in radio and post production for more than 20 years. I spent my last years on Yamaha‘s HS7 and Genelec’s 8030s. My studio is acoustically treated and everything is well calculated but you cannot defeat the room. The size of the space is something you have to accommodate to.
All the work I have done on the Genelecs perfectly well on broadcast and also on stage. The only two aspects that kept bothering me where the clarity of the stereo imaging and the lack of low end. I could have got myself a subwoofer but that would not solve the room problems. I also took into consideration Sonarworks, but it is out of discussion since it uses almost 20% of the CPU resources of a strong Mac 24/7. So my only solution for the small studio was to find some speakers with room tuning built in. Before going the extra mile with Genelec and Neumann, I decided after reading a lot of reviews and watching a lot of videos to order the MTMs.
Installing was easy and fast since they went on the same microphone stands. First they sounded a little bit bassy, but after calibration the meds the highs and the details came to life and the low frequencies got tailored tailored. I want to mention that all the settings were at the beginning and are now on flat with 40Zh. The low end is absolutely amazing, you will have just enough bass to understand and be able to control everything properly. So in this regard they are the best choice over all other speakers with 5, 6, or 6,5 inch woofers. The tweeters are mild and silky and the highs will never give you your fatigue after long sessions of work or listening to different genres of music. Also after calibration the stereo imaging is absolutely fantastic. I also connected the USB B cable that came with my Pioneer DJ console and managed to update de firmware on both units to the latest 1.2.1.
My honest opinion is that these speakers are totally underrated on the market. At the moment I can say that they are fantastic value for the money and if you do the calibration and place them correctly in your treated room you will have tremendous results!
PS: After sending some pictures with my new speakers to my friends, they asked me what model of Genelers are they 🙈
Great value for money
The 20 degree angle base really helps position the speakers to the ear level, the auto calibration is an incredible feature that really helps out in tricky rooms. The speakers are sturdy and transportable, the only downside is the power switch on the back, which can be hard to find.
Definition and clarity
If you aren't in search of something really loud (though 100 dB SPL are enough for my ears!) but clear and coherent instead, they are the definitive near field monitors. The incorporated ARC system for frequency response linearity and phase coherence at listening point is a plus
Final solution to monitor Nord Piano and Stage
I tried 3 different solutions (the last one being a Roland KC-220) to get similarly good audio from near-field monitors than from my Sennheiser headphones. I also checked out Nord's own speakers in the showroom, and they sounded very good, however I couldn't imagine those huge red boxes on top of the piano in my living room.
I made this bet for the iLoud MTMs (a pair), and I am more than happy with them. Now I can hear an equally good sound when I am playing loud, than via the headphones, when I'm playing silently.
They are half the size of the Nord speakers and look much sleaker anyway, and they are equally good to monitor piano sounds as well and B3 organ or church organ or any synth sound from the Stage 3.
Although the iLouds are pricey, they worth it. Faithful to their name, they can also be pretty loud, but it was not a criteria in my case. But for rehearsal in a practice room I think it would do (rehearsing jazz, not hard rock). I can honestly recommend these monitors.
PS. I bought the consoles of the Nord speakers and worked on them to accomodate the iLouds).
IK Multimedia iLoud MTM Active Two-Way Monitor is great so far
These monitors are great, frequencies are tuned to the room. It great for A/B you sound!
exactly what I needed
not having an acoustically treated studio and not being able to play at high volumes due to the neighborhood, these speakers are exactly what I needed to listen very precisely below 90db.
I use them set to 50hz.
At 40hz the back door makes noise at certain levels, but not always, I have experienced this with specific bass tonalities (eg: G, G #).
(but maybe due to a wrong calibration done by me)
Must have for producers working in bad acoustic environment
This is killer stuff. IKM made something truly valuable.
I came to a thought of buying MTMs right after my 7 inch Tannoys went to hell. I mean literally burned out. Bad electrical grid to be blamed. I also owned 5 inch JBL's even before that.
To be honest my initial thought was to buy some decent passive hi-fi speakers and external amp for them. That's more serious stuff that many pro producers advice to use. So I was browsing Youtube looking for some comparison tests. And I found out that MTMs which I've being ignoring for quite a long time because of their size and price have some unique and undeniable advantages.
Virtual tests can't be a ground for decision making but they helped me notice a solution for a problem I faced many times. The problem I'm talking about is translatability of your mixes.
Like a guitar cab, studio monitors are literally a box that contains speakers. And you know what? That box colors sound so much... I was shocked. I admit that other much more expensive studio monitors were constructed so well that resonances that their bodies reproduce are totally suitable but that's inapplicable to entry-level Focals, Adams, etc.
Thanks to an advanced and effective shape of MTM's body and their DSP side they are able to really give you a possibility to hear mixes as they are.
The downside of this approach is lack of volume and "feel". You are able to hear everything from 35HZ and higher legibly but your bass drum hardly may hit you right in the chest.
To sum it up MTM is best possible option for most music producers. If iLouds are out of your budget you may without a doubt save some money on buying audio interface, mics, soft and even (don't hit me) acoustic treatment. The calibration technology is perfect. 1 minute to spend and they sound absolutely precisely, accurately and beautifully if room you're working in is any better than an absolutely empty metal barrel.
Also I would like to highlight how good MTMs are in creating phantom center feeling. You may see VOXs, bass drums, snare and bass as if in the palm of your hand.
I just have to thank fate for what she did to my Tannoys. Which are totally fine products in their price range.
excellent monitor for small space
Size is very good for small space ( like HK ) , sound is perfect and really powerful ( only turn the volume to 12 o clock is enough for me ). Need more time to play with those " function " .
Global Mega Hit!
You just need it right now.
Small size - But it can sound deep down to 40 Hz - Yes it is true!
Nothing more to say...
compact monitoring with DSP adjustment!
Just wow
I have read mixed reviews of these small beasts, some of them claiming they're not loud enough, or easily sent into clipping.
I usually use 'Protection' by Massive attack to check if the bass is clipping: there's no way to clip these guys before reaching a volume that's really too much for near field monitoring! These speakers are LOUD! and the bass is quite well defined, way better than from speaker bigger in price and size!!
Stereo image is beautiful, and calibration is effective.. Still gotta try Sonarworks, to compare the two calibration settings..
But for near field monitoring, I'm definitely overwhelmed.
