Klark Teknik 76-KT Reviews
Is great 1176 clone
is very transparent and simple to use, i love it and i use it for vocal recording.
in cubase i rooting as insert in input track for recording the compressor with vocal.im very satisfied with the unit.
Great price for that classic 1176 sound
Not the exact same thing as the original, but it FEELS the same. Feel wins every time.
Great sounding compressor.
Affordable with zero fuss. Can adds a nice punch or be more subtle. I use it on different sources and also on a parallel to blend it with the original material. Great value for the price.
Classic Compression for a great price!
Great Features, Great Build, Great Sound, Great Value. It does what it says on the Tin! Excellent…
Awesome compressor!
This a very good compressor for any source. Totally worth the price.
An 1176 you can afford!
Introduction: as a classic compressor the UA 1176 has been on countless big albums, can the Klark Teknik 76-KT hang with it's inspiration?
Pros: I've had this in the rack for a good while now and it's in regular use on vocals to tame the peaks and keep things sounding nice on the way into the daw it gives you all the functionality you'd expect of an 1176
and does everything you'd expect this type of compressor to do and has served me well,
It's also built like a tank which is a definite plus at this price
Cons: While it gives you all the functionality of it's inspiration
it will introduce some hiss if driven hard enough but set properly with a bit of common sense and good mics and preamps it's negligible in practice
Should you get one?
well I've used this regularly as an insert compressor both while tracking and on mixes and and have had many happy clients,
it makes my workflow much faster with less need for post processing after tracking through it and sounds great on vocals and acoustic instruments
given that it's an affordable and accurate take on
a classic compressor it's really hard to fault,
perhaps it's a touch more transparent than it's inspiration but this is being overly picky and a good thing in my view as more saturation can always be added in post
Overall: it's worth it,
countless plugin emulations exist but tracking through this will save you time and get you to the sound you want faster, the original will always be the most desirable version but this is very very close at a price that wont break the bank :)
Cheap, but not cheap sound
Just got this lovely compressor, it's well made and doesn't have the problems of excessive noise etc that others have described. I've used it on my music and it's compression behaviour is very quick and the right amount of compression doesn't muffle the sound, although it doesn't bring out certain colourings I might like, in all botton mode the sound is crazy and a little bright. Especially on Bass you get that magical square wave magic.
Very good, I like it.
No Brainer
Got it hooked on Sub37 and I love it. Downpoint no AB/ Bypass knop.
76-KT
Pros
It works well. Price.
Cons
It can become niosy at higher levels including pot movement noise. A wet dry mix knob should have been implemented.
An excellent and affordable 1176 clone that beats out any plugin
I'm utterly amazed at the quality you get for the price and if I did not know about this compressor, I wouldn't be surprised at all if someone told me that it costs double or more the price it sells for.
The compression is very, very close to the real thing, a bit on the cleaner side and doesn't distort as easily but it's incredibly useful for tracking.
The sound remains punchy and present throughout the frequency spectrum no matter how hard you push it.
I initially intended to use it as a tracking compressor only, but I'm definitely finding it very useful while mixing.
All of the knobs have a surprisingly sturdy feel to them.
Again, the quality build is insane for the price.
Highly recommend it!
Meter is not perfect
Not bad except the fact that the meter has flaws:
1. Recalibrate needed when swith from ratio 4:1 to 20:1
2. Max GR couldn't reach -20db in meter
Slightly upgrade from plugins
I've read and heard a lot about this machine from the Internet and I decided to give it a try. It does what it is supposed to do. I ended up returning the thing back because I am at a point in my experience where I want to deal with hardware only if it has a certain "mojo" you may call it. This machine has not. It works okay but it doesn't bring excitment to me in the process of recording or mixing. On some sources I've liked it better than some plugin emulations. Definetly delivers something on bass, vocals and drum room (especially with the "all buttons" mode). It tends to hash a bit the top. After 1 o' clock the make up gain (output) knob adds some kind of pink noise.
Love it!
I have never used the original, but I do have a rather expensive version on my UAD 6176 preamp I can compare the 76-KT to. This got the mojo I was looking for, and real knobs make med try end experiment more. So I ended up getting 4 of these:)
CANNOT BE BEATEN FOR THE PRICE
this is a great piece of gear and emulates the original 1176 to a good degree. for the price you're paying you just can't complain. klark teknik have done a really good job with this one
it's a professional compressor
It's a good, professional 1176 clone. Any negative reviews I watched on Youtube make no sense, I think some people do not know how to use analog gear, that's all.
I gave one star less because calibrating the UV meter is gruesome, it shouldn't work like that, but for the price I guess there needed to be some savings quality wise.
Cheapest 1176 clone available?
This could well be the cheapest 1176 on the market. I purchased 2 units, and when using TRS cables, both sounded like a telephone. XLR cables worked perfectly, and once these were plugged in, the unit worked perfectly. Sounds great.
Sounds killer
these are excellent build quality and sound excellent! amazing value. better than plugins!
A respectable 1176 clone despite the price
A really useable compressor. Can't believe it for the price. solid build good quality
Use it every day
I use it for everything. I have several 1176 clones. I really love this one and you can't beat the price of course.
Don't let the price scare you. It really is everything it promises. The manufacturing cost just drops due to SMT components used inside.
Very good value for money
I haven't used an original 1176, but was pleasently surprised by the sound and quality of it.
