Comfort is a mystery

So these are great. Well padded, and fit tight to your ears. Good bass response and fairly flat overall.

They do great as monitors for recording, great for reference and good for mixing.

Replaceable cable is great, included length is HUGE. And there is a detachable volume control which is again great for monitoring.

Maybe it’s a bit harsh but I do find the top of my head starting to hurt long before my ears get tired. Disclaimer, I do have a big head but they are a firm fit.

Great balanced sound

If you want unbiased mixes, these are great. Got a 2nd pair as after 2 years of hard use the ear cups started to wear out.

Missing a bit of low

Love the fact that they match super with my KRK active monitors. Earpads dry out quite fast. Little cracks in the material. Not too serious yet, but will probably fall apart in another 5 years or so. They lack a bit in the lows, but I do not mind that too much. I like the natural sound.

surgical instrument for mastering

I've been trying to consolidate project for some time in Beyerdynamics DT770Pro250 and on Yamaha HS7 speakers. Every time I finished mastering and send it to another system to play it sounded harsh and overloaded in HMF range. Or conversely when I try to add compression or spectrum shaper in that range it's becoming too much dull. With KNS8400 this job become very easy.

Moreover frist time you may notice that these cans not for long pleasing listening because all sounds stand upfront your ears in comparison with Beyerdynamics where midrange is more laid back. But after day or two of warming this effect comes to naught.

Also KRKs are 9dbmore sensitive and loud and have more noise isolation. So recording loud vocalist will not be a problem even driving headphones straight from the USB interface without dedicated HP amp.

I recommend KRK KNS8400 to all who need closed headphones for mixing and mastering .

Refreshing

These things are amazing for the price. Are they going to compete against high end headphones? Of course not. But I doubt you'll find much better at this price point. Frequency response is pretty flat and the range is surprisingly good. There isn't much isolation from outside noise which is a drawback but for me that's not a problem since a lot of my mixing is done at night with no other noise going on around me. They have a bit of weight to them but not enough to be uncomfortable even after extended sessions. In fact this surprised me because they're the first headphones of this type that I don't find uncomfortable after extended usage. For the price you can't go wrong.

Great buy!

Buying headphones or speakers online is a gamble. It's always advisable to hear them first before buying. My gamble paid off with these great sounding headphones. There is also a bit more clarity in the midrange compared to my old Bose set. They fit nicely over my ears and the balance through the frequencies is good. The build quality is excellent and compares with my KRK Rokit5 monitors. They come with a very nice storage/transport bag and it looks like extremely durable cable with plug. Useful if it ever needs to be replaced. An added accessory is an extension cable with volume control. Well done KRK!

Nice headphones

Good headphones. Only problem is these should be little bit louder. I have to turn volume up in my computer and audio interface to get normal loudness. Sound quality is good. Can be used in professional studio but i think that final mixing and mastering should be done with studio monitors because headphones can't deliver speakers feeling. These are studio headphones what will bring that flat sound without boosting bass like consumer headphones but still should be louder in any level (bass, mid, high). Good for live band recordings. And very comfortable.

Amazing price and value

I use those headphones on a daily basis for over 2 years. I am a musician myself and I use them when mixing some tracks or while playing with others.

they are very comfortable and the cable length is long , plus you have an extension that includes a volume control which can be attached if need it .

The sound is balanced and makes them very enjoyable at the same time. It's a KRK and sound wise you know what to expect.

I love the fact that parts can just be replaced and thankfully I didn't had to do that . Made of durable material.

I even use them for gaming and the experience it's wonderful in shooting games as you get any little sound in details. When I say details means that I can hear soldier walking towards me and shots fired can be heard as if you were there including the direction is coming from. Arma 3 will be the game in question

Amazing headphones

My first KRK product was Rokit 8 G2, so i need it a headphones to help me hear wide range of sounds. I read a lot for this headphones and finally i made a great choice.

Amazing sound quality, perfect details ( flat & clear sound )

light, comfortable to use for a long hours + acoustic insulation.

I use them for 3 years and a bit more and so far - no complaints at all. Very happy with them and i don't think to change them.

Best Headphones I've used

Extremely Comfortable headphones which I wear for hours without any pain or annoyance. Very Clear sound and well worth the investment, you can hear a wide range of sounds, I feel it has a lot of Mid range.

The cables can be removed, which is extremely worth while as if it gets damaged, it can be replaced.

I cannot find any cons in this product. Perhaps since they are an American product it could be somewhat troublesome to find replacement parts in Europe, as I had the cabled damaged and I haven't managed to find a replacement cable yet. But I'm sure there is a way.

Well worth the investment, a must buy.

Probably my best headphone purchase so far

These cans are WONDERFUL for recording as there is virtually no bleed.

They are also SUPER comfortable, and great for laptop music creation and rough mixes (mixes I have done on these have translated very well indeed to a large (HUGE) system as this studio I frequent in the South of Spain.

The feel of them is ever so slightly 'cheap' and they don't really fold away to a compact unit but given the most important benefits (great sound and comfort) I can forgive this...

To summarize, these have blown headphones double the price out of the water and given me hours of listening pleasure, as well as critical listening insight.

Go for it baby!

Superb

I bought these to replace my ageing AKG's after reading a lot of reviews on the 8400's these seemed the perfect replacement !

I do a lot of mixing in the evening so use headphones a lot so as not to disturb next door.

They claim to be like studio monitors for your ears & I can safely say they are not wrong these sound supurb clear un-coloured sound ! The differance between the 8400's & my old AKG's is amazing you can hear everything in clear detail which is what you need when your mixing.

As for build quality again supurb very light & comfortable to wear the cables are detachable & there's the volume control which is very useful the cable length is very long.

All in all if your looking for pro headphones then you won't go wrong with these & the price is very reasonable !

KRK KNS 8400 are good and reliable headphones.

"+" High quality product, perfect details in panorama, mids, highs, comfortable and for a good price. Good acoustic insulation.

"-" Some of the guys tested these headphones and found them very hot after wearing for a some time. But I think this is a usual thing for a closed type headphones. Low end is very flat or ... I have to compare with other monitoring headphones.

Update 2021: I love these headphones and they've been serving me well for 8 years now. I got used to them in the means of comfort and frequency response curve. I love to use them for surgical jobs, because of their precision that allows me to focus on tiny details that I might miss when using speakers (i do mix and monitor with them as well). I have not been using them everyday in a busy studio, but they had their duty for these years. Well, I wish it would stay like that for a longer time, but I must inform that now I have to replace the ears and headband cushions. But 8 years guys. I could not find original replacement and also read they are at a biting price so the parcel from China is on the way and my hope they will work the same.

Conclusion:

Cushions is the only issue I had over the period of use. Connectors and wire etc - all is good. But I also used headphones with care.

Yes the bass is moderate. But it is there.

Great Sounding Headphones

I love these headphones. To me they sound very very good, very well balanced and with great mids. they don't have an amazing response on the basses butstill they translate very well and are extremely comfortable.

They leak like hell so no really suitable for tracking, even though I like to have a bit of leaking in my voice or gtrs takes so...work fine for me.
