Empress Effects Compressor MKII Blue

I’m a retired sound engineer and as you can appreciate, quality dynamics on a signal source are paramount for me live and in the studio. I’ve tried several compressors over the years but my search for the holy grail is finally over. This is a hell of a bit of kit, it gives me very precise control over my every guitar sound. I would highly recommend this pedal professionally as a sound engineer and as a guitar player….it’s smooth, effective and unobtrusive….if that’s what you want of cause! It’s also very capable of being a bit of a savage. It’s not the cheapest on the market but if you’re serious about your sound then that little bit extra is always worth it….most of the time, you do get what you pay for….. In this case...
Empress Effects Compressor MKII Silver

In my opinion the best compressor currently out there to grab. Compact size, full (studio-grade) control and amazing, noise-free operation. Very transparent sound, hardly any coloration of the original signal (unless you want it to with the tilt EQ tone knob). Due to the separate attack, decay, blend and tone knobs; any type of compression setting is possible with this superb device. It equally works well with my Les Pauls, ES-s, Starts, Teles and Super-strats. If I could only keep one compressor (hope never happens! ), this would be it! Can’t recommend it enough!
Wampler Ego 76 Compressor

I will say I didn't have any other compressors for electric guitar before this one. Had to wait more than a month to receive it. Actually I wonder how is it possible for Wampler to release a new pedal with such small amount of units. The controls are exactly what I needed: tone - to make it brighter or darker (though will say it acts more like presence than tone) Blend - very important if you want to sound more natural Attack and Release - to make the sound more choppy or to increase sustain Volume - so you can adjust the volume directly on pedal Compression - self explanatory To give you the impressions: you understand the value of this pedal when you turn it off and hear something that sounds dull without this pedal. Very transparent, and makes your notes ring. Aside from the fact...

I have always used a DynaComp. I got a Boss CS-3, sold it. I got a Keeley Compressor+, also sold it. This one I'll keep. To be honest, it the DynaComp had a blend knob, I would use it, and only it, but I wanted something more transparent, which the DynaComp, on it's best day, is not. It's got a great build, strong knobs, nice clicky button and the blend switch is a great function. When it's turned to the blend side, you use the blend knob for a wet/dry mix, when it's turned to the juicy side, it's a constant 90/10 split towards wet. I just set the knob that my choice solo blend, and turn to the juicy side for funky rythm parts. No fiddling around with knobs, I just push it with my foot.
MXR M 228 Dyna Comp Deluxe

I have tried a lot of boost and drive pedals, and I like a nice compressed sound, but I have never had luck using compressors. After reading that Pete Townshend uses an MXR booster for end of song rave ups (his term), I thought, I need to try this. I love it- it is very versatile. You can use it as a relatively clean boost with mild compression or really get a clean sustain. Works well after a distortion (like the Apocalypse by DBA) to boost for solos or just for more sustain. I also have a Katana Clean boost running into the MXR. The two work well together - using either the MXR as a base tone then driving it a bit w the Katana for leads, or using the Katana as a base then boosting and compressing a bit for leads. Money well spent.
JHS Pedals 3 Series Compressor
Based on 1 reviews
I was thinking about getting a compressor, since I really love those Talking Heads riffs. After a lot of frustration and not being able to hear much difference between demos on the internet, I decided to go with a simple compressor, that I heard is for the people, who aren't really into compressors (something like that). And I gotta say, when I plugged it into my signal chain, I immediately noticed a potential upgrade of my sound. Also, that BRIGHT toggle alone is worth having in a pedal. Amazing feature! My first and probably not last JHS pedal.
Keeley Compressor Plus

I mostly play Metal and was looking for something to had another dimension or presence to my lead work. At first I thought it could be a compressor, I tried one in a store and it really increased the sustain despite changing the sound's character when used on the FX loop. I researched and listened to lots of demos and I decided to buy this Qeeley, specially because it has a mix and a tone knob. The initial purpose was to use it on the FX loop as a lead coloring tool, but I also wanted to try it in front of the amp with a low mix setting to see if it could improve my sound. These were my confused thoughts before having it. When I tried the Qeeley Compressor Plus I really liked the versatility it offered. However I didn't like it on the FX loop because it altered my distortion's...
Wampler Mini Ego Compressor
Based on 8 reviews
As a solo performer (Guitar, vocals, footdrums) i bought the EGO mini to tighten up and add sustain to my tone. It did that very well. I only have experience of a very cheap compressor before and never really heard the effect of that pedal. The EGO bites through and really adds alot. Brings your tone to life I would say. I use compression as an 'always on' effect again to add clarity to my guitar tone. Having not tried the full sized EGO so I can not compare but the mini has the same functions. The knobs are close together but for me no problem as It is always on so I never really 'tweak it' The small size means there is nothing not to like. I can not say if cheaper compressors are better or worse but I was happy to pay the price of a wampler. I have Euphoria overdrive and Pinnacle...
Walrus Audio Deepsix V3

This pedal really takes your tone and bumps it up a notch, the difference is subtle but once you get used to playing with it, you'll never want to switch it off. I've tried so many compression pedals out there and this is the only one I truly love. All the knobs respond fabulously and the sound is pristine and crystal clear. Pros: -blend knob!! this is one of few compression pedals that actually let you blend your dry and wet signals, the compression makes your guitar cut through better and works amazing with drives, and lets you blend in some of the dry signal so it doesn't sound overly squashed like most compression pedals -it doesn't make that annoying click noise that most compressions do when you switch the pedal on. -the sound quality is just superb -the price is not that high...
JHS Pedals Whitey Tighty-Mini Compressor
Based on 3 reviews
