Rode M2 Reviews
Good mic
High quality compared to the price
Great mic, great value
I bought this mic hoping to upgrade from my trusty Beta 58, and I was blown away at the improvement. Vocals are smooth, full and punchy, with a less pronounced proximity effect and much better off-axis rejection resulting in less feedback than the Beta on stage. All in all a better mic at roughly the same price.
powerful but.
A little heavy on the lower mid, not much 's' or 't',but plenty good when eq'd a little. I prefer the t'bone beta condenser mic, with 's' and 't' and not so much lower mid and 1/2 the cost.
I recorded the same song in my studio using one mic, then the other both on flat eq.
Just a little eq and both mics sound the same both the same gain too.
My wife sings some, but tends to leave her mic "anywhere" so the rode on/off switch saves a lot of problems. A pretty good mic really.
It'll get plenty of use this summer.
Simply Excellent
Fully met expectations. Just had once an issue to explain to sound engineer that I need +48V Phantom power. Presume he was confused by look of mic (like dynamic)
Low-quality
Excellent superior sound, lower quality build from inside. The membrane holders broke after a few months of singing.
Membrane holders are his only weak spot, my friend by the same microphone at my recommendation and the same happens to his microphone, after few month of use.
Good quality mic
These condenser microphones are good quality, an expert in audio technology recommended me to buy them.
The Rode M2 rocks!
I'm using this for live sound/recording applications. It gives a nice and crisp sound that required little editing thankfully. This saved me time and money. I have nothing to complain about. Really.
Very good Mic
This is a very good microphone. I am using it for spoken word.
Really Good value for money
I watched a lot of video review about condenser mics and I finally find one that can fulfil my requirement. I used the mic for recording VO and it performs really well. The mic controls the room sound very well and it is not overwhelming the recording. The frequency response is similar to the curve provided by the manufacturer except the tiny bit of unpleasing high mid harmonics boost. The airiness added by the mic is good especially for vocals. With this price, the mic is above my expectation !!
Prefer this than 58
I have used Shure 58 but I prefer this mic than 58. Condencer makes this mic sound more senstive to me. Great for this price.
Very impressed
We use 4 of these for a mobile church in Romania in the building of the town philharmonic. 2 for male, 2 for female. Our worship leader was very impressed with these, after using SM58 for many many years.
The voice is full, the extended upper frequencies are noticeable.
It's a steal for such a low price.
CONS: sensitivity is on the low side, gain has to be turned high, but this is not a problem for our Midas preamps from a Midas M32C + DL32 mixer.
The best that i ever had!!!
Tried it with and without effect processor and very little noise was heard. I can say proudly that THIS MIC is the best mic that i ever had in my LIFE!!!
ps. this is my first mic ever...
Warm sound and sturdy microphone
Does not color vocals that much, and voice sounds warm and loud. Really great condenser microphone particularly for that price. Highly recommended.
Connector is not standard
I have two of them and both experienced the similar issue: when the user touch the cable, it generated the static sound badly.
Then I found out I need to insert the blue rubber padding ring, which came with the mic. One of them solved the issue barely. The other one has no improvement, if not worse, at all.
I am using the same cable, XLR input for other mic she as Shure SM58, Sennheiser E-835, AKG C-1000 (also a condenser mic) without any issues so I am quite confident that is on the mic side rather than the cable / mixer side.
Not recommended for handheld applications.
Excellent mid-range mic
You could do a lot worse for the price, as far as condenser mics go within its same price range, and Røde's excellent warranty leaves me at ease, that should anything ever happen to it, it'll be taken care of.
I have zero qualms about it.
Finally arrived!
Took a very long time to get to the U.S. DHL isn't the best choice here and tracking was basically silent for weeks until a day or two before it arrived. Build quality is very good. Sound quality on voice is also nice, warm and full. But there are a couple of issues. This microphone is gain hungry and makes a lot of noise. I did a side-by-side with a Share SM58 and the SM58 was almost without discernible noise with the gain cranked up all the way. The fix is to get a special Fethead for condenser microphones that will boost the M2 gain and eliminate much of the noise. I would recommend the M2 but only with the Fethead.
Very happy - "My voice sounds like me"
I bought this because of the good reviews. Shipping was delayed by a few days and the doubts set in... But I really like this microphone - it's a big step up from the dynamic mics I've used (Shure, AKG - and I like AKG) and I find that "My voice sounds like me" which is nice.
an amazing microphone
I use this mic for my home studio and it sounds really good especially for the price.
Pros:
It sounds good and natural
Cheap
Has an on/off switch
Durable and feels good
Good at rejecting background noise especially for a condenser
Cons:
just a little bit low sensitivity
self-noise is a kinda high
I would recommend this mic if you want a condenser sound whether for live use or studio it will work great.
Good mic to start your career
Really good mic from Rode to start singing.
Good for live and studio sets; Condenser microphone with really good sound characteristic.
Hradly suggested
Michrophones.... All good but different
I'm ordered three mics, I'm write a small comparing:
- E 865 S - Really much detail, good dynamic, nice EQ resp
- RODE M2 - Good detail, less dynamic
- Senheiser e945 - Nice details, amazing eq resp, great dynamic
- Beta 58 - Less details than the e945 on high freq, boomy at low (I'm using this about 8years)
I know that these mics are mixed dynamic and condenser, so it's a little interesting feedback, but after I did a test recording with my voice, my EXACTLY best of these four, is the Senheiser E945.
All of the michrophones more than enough rough and perfectly assembled. The feedback was also not a problem.
The E945 has the whole advantages from the 3 others.
