Rode M3 5-stars Reviews
Home recording microphone.
I bought this following reading favourable reviews. It's 48v phantom powered and can power from a battery or your desk can supply this. I want to use it in conjunction with a dynamic microphone to mix the signals, looking for a stereo image with a little "sparkle". I've used it for recording electric guitar with excellent results, easy. The switchable frequency filters work well and make some close-mic positioning easier - I notice that the audible "capture" changes with distance in a very "linear" (use-able) manner. I'm happy with it and I think it's good value for money. It's a good quality microphone, I look forward to using it in more detail, I'm sure it will do well with voices.
I love this mic!
I've used this mic for recording acoustic guitar with great results, vocals with the included pop filter are great, I've even used it live. Great sounding mic *almost* matches my Rode NT2a mic that's nearly 3x the price.
Compact reliable microphone
i bought the microphone to start recording at home and also for gigs. i used it for my classical guitar and it worked really well! the design and the material is also really compact and seems really strong
Excellent value for money
Sound:In short,it sounds wonderful.Frequency response is flat, while the mic is capturing all the little nuances of your instrument or voice.Allthoug small diaphragm condensers are especially good with guitars,I found out that this mic excels at vocals. It gives my voice a warm timbre without changing the core characteristics of the sound. As all condensers,m3 is prone to the proximity effect (though not as much as most other mics).Placement is also important,as it is with every directional mic.Roll-off switch helps a lot especially if closemicing the sound source.
Built quality:As most rode products, this mic is built like a tank.It has fallen to the ground quite a few times, without any consequences. The clamp that is provided with the mic seems unbreakable.
Overall:An absolutely wonderful mic for its money. Not much mire to add really.
Good mic!
I tried the voice, acoustic and electric guitar, even my daughter's flute.
All in all its an excellent all around microphone, especially for the price.

Very sensitive
This is my favourite mic for recording acoustic guitar and drums, it's just perfect.
I used it a couple of times for vocals, on max it picks up sounds from the neighbours house lol.
Price for Quality is Exceptional
These mics are fantastic for the price. ?79 each for a small diameter capsule condenser mic is incredible. I've not been able to compare them to the AKG C1000 myself, but from other reviewers, they say the M3 has a better mid and low range, and the highs are not brash, like they supposedly are with the C1000.
I love the fact that a single 9v battery will provide phantom power for use in any situation. The mic clip seems indestructible and the zip pouch is perfect for storage. These will be great mics for stereo overheads, stereo guitar and horns. I'll be putting these in to heavy rotation!
Acoustic Guitar Recordings
I have a Zoom H4n in 4 channel mode using the on-board stereo condensers with a Rode M3 and Fishman pickup on my Martin D12X1AE plugged in to the combined XLR/TRS jacks. The balance between the pick-ups, the stereo mics and the Rode is perfect for acoustic guitar recording...enuff said!
My workhorse mic
Sounds so nice, very well made and sturdy. Comes in a nice case.
Lovely for vocals and acoustic instruments, not so good for close micing a loud guitar amp. The sound quality belies the great price as it is a very high quality mic.
Rode M3
I purchased two M3's and have had them for about 3 years now, we used them live as over head mic's for a 44 piece choir, they perform admirably, and can be pushed quite hard across with minimal EQ before they feedback.
We have also used them extensively for recording, the sound is warm with minimal colouration. A great mic at a great price.
very good mic. build quality is amazing. very sturdy and the sound quality is extremely good. Cant find a better mic in the price range....really punches above its range too.
Excellent Mic
This Rode M3 mic is unbelievably on the high edge considering the low price. It performs excellently in venues where feedback is a big challenge, like churches. The velvety tones coming out from it are incredible. I used it in combination with the Bose L1 portable PA system and Behringer Xenyx QX1202 USB mixer. This mic is a must serious musicians and/or sound engineers.
Great for vocal use
I'm an audio technician in my church and we recently bought six of Rode M3's. My main intention was to use it with choirs. However, it has not only proven as excellent mic for miking a choir but also for solo singers. It has low cut filter built in, but I never had to use it. However I do like to put windscreen foam on when giving it to solo singers, which comes with it.
One guy is even using it for beatboxing with great results.
Some singers prefer having a mic handheld. I haven't noticed any handling noise with M3.
In conclusion, I'm happy with our purchase, no regrets
Great Deal
The Mic is very well built,a little heavy but soild.I use the mic mainly for vocals, and have to say i was realy impressed with the quailty. Its for from clear, but for the price it doses a great job.Using a little skill damping the space, the results are very good.
I travel a lot with the mic, and it stands up to the wear and tear,of moving about. The battery the mic needs, lasts a long time.I have on occasion used it on acouistic instruments and found it excellent.
The only complaint i would have, is it is a little to long in design, put it comes with a wind shield do.I would have no trouble in recommending.
A must have mic for recording or live situation.
Our church sound department was in the process of upgrading our existing mic collection when we came across Rode M3. We saw Rode M3 being used at another church worship service and was amazed by the sound quality, available options and the heavy duty build quality it had. so we did some research and decided to buy not just one but five of them.
Our sound team is very satisfied with the over all experience that we get on daily basis with our Rode M3. we use them on vocals, piano and also as the main podium mic.
Sound is incredibly smooth and flat, on vocal needs very less eq and we leave the high-pass filter on so it applies filter at 80Hz to reduce low frequency sounds and any handling noise that may occur.
We use these to mic our grand piano and also as the main podium speakers microphone. we have had no feedback issues compared to aka c1000 that we have been using before.
We did replaced all our old battered up AKG c1000 with the Rode M3's and have to say its one of the best choices we have made. The price you pay for such an amazing mic like this is just plain bargain. If you are in the process of deciding which mic to by for your studio or live gig just give this mic a try, it'll be worth it.
overall mic
the Rode mics i bought a while back have proven a good and on some fronts even better microphone then the one well known microphone which it clearly imitates.
the sound is very warm and the pads are very usefull.
it can handle high volumes and runs on battery when not having phantom power available.
the batterytime is awesomes compaired to the mic it copies and the sound was overall about the same.
it might be a big microphone but the sound is also big.
it is a good value for money microphone for the person with a small wallet.
i recommend it highly
Can't fault this mic...
The Rode M3 is super versatile; performing well on pretty much any sound source. I've used it predominantly on acoustic guitar, and the results have been very good - even through lower priced preamps.
In short, a great condenser mic for the price - and one that I would definitely buy again if it were lost or broken.
Nice Mic from Rode!
I use this Mic in the studio and i have to say: it's cheap but it's a good one. We use it as a overhead microphone and sometimes for several instruments like guitar oder brass instruments. The sound is very clear and low-noised.
a good investment ;-)
Rode M3
This Condenser microphone stood up to my expectations.
The overall weight of the microphone is brilliant. Its not too light or too heavy and has a nice tidy design.
I was looking for the best possible mic on a budget and I don't think I could have got better than this!
It captures the sounds that I wanted for recording Acoustic guitar which is the harmonics, finger picking, strumming and light drumming. I use this along with my guitars pre-amp to get an even clearer sound. I found that talking into the mic from one or two feet away is also good for capturing your voice.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone.
