A diamond in large diaphragm world!

I fretted for a long time looking for a condenser mic. I am no audio engineer, just a musician who wants to record some music. I checked specs and compared reviews for a ton of different entry level mics.

This mic fits what I do precisely, which is just recording in my small room. My room is by no means sound proof, nor do I care about that, but I keep the mic close to my mouth and guitar sound hole to dampen reverb anyway. It picks it up beautifully to my ear, and that's all I really need.

The plastic shock mount needs to be cared for to last but once it is it will last!

If you're just looking for a mic to make some good music, this is not a bad bet. Been using one for for a while now and I'm very happy with it.

Review of Rode NT1-A

This is a great sounding mic full of character. Its wide dynamic range is something that makes this mic stand out among the rest for the price range. Iv heard mics that were double this price that in my opinion did not sound half as nice. It is a warm bright sounding mic that provides a clear vocal which is ideal for mixing. Worth noting is just how much bright this mic actually is as it will pick up even the tiniest of details from the a vocal take. Overall the the Rode NT1A is a great starter mic and an even better investment as a mic for recording guitar, vocals etc in the future.

A mic for every application!

I bought the rode NT1-A a few months ago and it has practically paid for its self, Firstly it is best used as a vocal microphone, low frequencies are slightly cut, with a nice boost in the highs making it ideal for the typical male voice, a simple EQ can take out the harshness in the highs if that problem arises. It also works great on stringed intruments, especially guitar! Also used a pair of these in drum overheads and for room mics! Great value microphone with pop shield and a nice quailty XLR. Placement is key to get the best sound just use your ears. It can also pick up a lot of bleed from other instruments, I find it doesnt need a lot of gain so just reduce the gain to avoid this as much as possible anyway. Overall compaired to some of the more expensive mics iv worked with, it hits way above its belt, a must have! 10/10

Excellent quality microphone

Great quality mic, and a really nice set. Feels sturdy and good quality and the included pop shield and cradle are well built and solid.

Sounds great and super easy to set up and use.

Perfect vocal solution

Been using this for lead vocals, backings and some acoustic guitars and it sounds great for everything.

The shockmount and pop shield included is a nice bonus and makes sure you can make the best out of whatever environment you've got.

The only thing you'll need to note is that you'll need a seperate mic stand to us this properly. But other than that it's basically all you need in one little box.

My 2nd Rode NT1-A

Bought one before (eventually given to a musician friend) and had to get another as it just so economical.

It is obviously a low end large diaphragm mic. It works wonderfully for budget recordings. Never found a better microphone for the price. You would have to pay 500% of the cost to get 10-15% improvement in sound quality.

Also, if you live in the UAE it will cost you 50 Euros to deliver and an extra 10% of the total order to COLLECT from a local post office; they did not deliver to the address I asked them to. DHL have delivery vehicles and offices, however, instead use Emirates Post who have very poor customer and organization.

Superb Microphone!

The NT1A is a brilliant and affordable microphone. Originally intended to use as a vocal microphone (as per the item title), but found that it is suitable for almost any recording application. With an interface, correct technique and some software, it is quite possible to track an entire song using just this microphone, and with good quality as well. Highly recommended, add a second to use as stereo room or overhead microphones.

Rode NT1-A

It is really true, what they say about this mic:). You can record world class music with that whitout any doubts. I would propose to buy a matched pair of these to capture amazing stereo tracks.

Rode NT-1A

I'm just starting my first home studio and from the vast selection of mics I ended up choosing this one. The package contains conveniently all you need along with the mic; shockmount, pop-filter and xlr-cable. I think the price/quality ratio is very good. Both the mic and the accessories feel robust. For storage a hard case would be better than a soft pouch. In home studio environment you get excellent results with vocals, acoustic guitars and percussion. Hard core studio experts may find some limitations in the features of this mic, but for me it works well and makes me feel almost a pro now! Highly recommended.

Pristine sound for home studio

This is a complete recording bundle which comes with all that you need to start a recording but it assumes that you already have a mic stand. Adding a decent desktop/tripod stand would have made it complete though. Content is well packaged and box itself is sturdy enough to be used as a full-time storage case. The microphone is boxed in foam cutout which you can reuse (if you are planning to) in a separate case as well. Shockmount, Mic., Pop-filter are mated well and saves a lot of effort/risk of finding compatible accessories for the microphone. It is indeed made in Australia. What I found missing was a pad switch (if not multiple polar patterns).

Very pleasant tone

I am very happy with the tone and sensitivity. My first experience with large diaphram condenser mic are very positive. I am discovering my voice recording from new perspective.

A great start

This kit is a perfect starting out kit for musicians and producers alike. For the price you'll not likely find much more out there of the quality aside from the SE X1 mic, but that doesn't really have the features this does.

The cradle and pop shield setup is so great, it's neat, tidy, and it gets you set up in one go without the need to go and buy more parts. It sets a level of recording professionalism that is crucial.

The mic itself has a character, not necessarily a great one, but again, for the money you'll not likely find much desirable character in other mics at the price point. It has a slightly clunky sound, not so much top end sheen, but that can be easily worked with.

Still, cracking deal, and gets decent resale once you decide to update

Flexibility with an amazing quality

This microphone is simply the microphone of my dreams!

For the price of this microphone you will have such a professional microphone that can be used not only for vocals, but also for acoustic guitars, amplifiers, and even drums over mic.

And here is my evaluation for the types of usability:

Vocals: An amazing tone, it sounds like what your ears hear. The only cons, that is not actually a cons, is that it has no much bass. But if you are looking for a microphone that sounds like the professional studios microphone, this is the one!

Acoustic guitars: It's brilliant for acoustic guitars, such a tone, such a body! It's awesome!

Amp: If you place if well in front of the amp, it will get a very good sound of your guitar!

This mic is super flexible and for the price, you can't believe how good it is! I super recommend this microphone.

Rode NT1-A

It says "Rode NT1-A Complete Vocal Recording" but there's more than that.

You will get what you want with this NT1-A, from vocal to acoustic guitar, or maybe a cajun drum.

It is highly recommended.

Great sound, great price. It's my first mic so I don't have much to compare to but I can say I've been very happy with my purchase. I've recorded acoustic guitar and voice and this is a good mic for that purpose. If you're looking to record electric guitar check out dynamic mics like SM57.

Well worth it

Great sound. Though the spider mount is a bit heavy, great for a studio. Recommended.

Crystal clear sound and studio feeling

I am really enthusiastic about the Rode NT1 Studio microphone, what is optimal for home recording. I couldn‘t dream about so a high quality, crystal clear vocals and speech with a brilliant brights and fabulous lows. This low noise mic picks up all details through its awesome recording quality and amazing sensitivity. It has not only a fantastic warm sound and a sturdy design but also a beautiful, noble look and you have really a studio feeling. You can start to build with this micro and a good preamp a profi recording studio at home. All my expectations were exceeded, I am really happy and satisfied with this micro! I bought it in a set with a shock mount and pop filter, I can only recommend it for the price, you can‘t wrong!

Very pleased with the microphone

I purchased this microphone in order to use for vocal, acoustic guitar and electric guitar amp recording, but found out that it also handles low level sound recording very nice, probably due to a low self-noise.

It is very convenient that it comes with a shock mount, an XLR cable and a pop filter, which can save you some money. Personally though I would swap the cable, which is very basic, for a hard case instead of a bag.

The quality of the recording is very good, and it is most probably limited not by the microphone, but by the interface and signal chain that I am using. Nevertheless I have managed to record song demos which included guitars, vocals, bass and drums with very good results. Still, a cut filter on the microphone would be a great addition.
